Yup.

I have a BGS 9.5 Ovechkin SPA FWA with three 10 sub grades. I should probably crack it and send to PSA to get a 10, which now goes for more than BGS 9.5.
Omg no.

Three ten subgrades that cards worth more then a PSA 10.

That's a hold onto card. I'm pro PSA but there is no way id crack that.

@Rorschach

What in god's name is the other sub grade that it's not a BGS 10?

Inquiring minds, ya know

One of the subgrades, I think maybe Edges? I have to look for the card. It was 9. If it was 9.5, it would be a BGS 10 overall. Also, I got it graded back in like 2008 so another possibility is to risk bust it out myself and get it re-graded by BGS again. With today's looser grading standards, it will probably be a full gold label 10 with a slight chance of black, lol.

No offense, there really should be a cards sub forum.

If they were to make a cards sub forum, I would show off my collection.

Seriously, who wants to see a pic of 80 mcDavid YG's with 20 being PSA 10?
Agreed they need to make one. I think it would drive more activity

Not sure it's worth the risk. I've been burned a couple times cracking BGS and sending to PSA, especially now with PSA supposedly being more strict about 10s.

That's a no bueno.

If I remember correctly HGA was shilling like crazy a few months ago on YouTube and the grades just all were magically 10's for key cards but were strict grades on low end.

One of the start up "collectors" was all shocked his keys got great grades but he just knew his heritage Kyle Schwarber base rookie would come back a 8.

PSA, BGS, and SCG. Those are the bar and SCG for vintage only.

PSA needs to come back already, have a couple cards I want graded but not for $300 a pop.

Next year's young guns look awful.

Probably the worst looking YG's since 2007, ha ha.

I found 2008 to look even worse. That flowery-type nonsense on the bottom looks ridiculous.

Not that 2007 is any better; can't even read the names of the players without putting in some serious effort.

2008-09 Young Guns are easily my favorite YG design of all time, only one that even comes close imo is 14-15

Just out of curiosity, what’s your favorite YG design?

05/06 easily for me.
That’s a weird one imo, some of them look very nice and some are hideous, in those it all comes down to the team colors for me. For example Anaheim and Washington YG’s looked very nice, Pittsburgh and Boston were terrible imo.

What i liked about 08-09 was that they all looked nice no matter the colors.

Hard to say. I like 2003-04 (Marc-Andre Fleury year), but that may be because it's when I got back into collecting after being young (I mean I was still young, but old enough to buy my own cards at that point).

The more I look at this, the less I like it. Why did they decide to take up so much of the frame with the young guns along the side? All the photos are going to be skinny. The goalie pictures are barely going to fit into the frame.

Part #2: The Modern: 1970 to 2016. I think I need a better camera lol:

Not sure if you need a better camera...what you need is better lighting. All cameras look great taking pics in outdoor sunshine on a clear day 80 degrees outside. Almost all cameras look like crap in the dark with a moving target. 1) improve your lighting...if you're feeling a little sweaty, the lighting might be high enough; 2) instead of holding the card and forcing your camera to track, have a little stand in the shot where you put the card so it sits nice and still; 3) use a nice dark and solid background...the background will absorb excess light and not distract the camera so that only your card is lit and becomes the focus of the camera...you can use a dark cloth or solid construction paper or one of those play mats that Magic players use.
