I think in hockey, people tend to label any player who’s not quiet, boring, your stereotypical yes man and status quo as a shit head. The only bad thing he did was be late to practice during camp. All the other things he got hate for simply being who he actually is and not being fake which 90% of the NHL is, which is a stupid hockey culture thing. The kid wanted to wear 66 big deal, NHL is the only league that makes a big deal about previous players numbers
I totally agree man. Hockey culture is so robotic. Anything outside of that norm you are labelled a problem. I can agree to some point if your personality becomes larger than the team, and how it might be annoying to be around. I think for example PK and Max Domi were over the top in your face on social media, constantly live streaming them and their teammates without any consent. That shit is annoying whether you're in hockey or not. If any of my friends constantly whipped out their phone to put shit on their social platforms while I am around them, I probably would not be friends with them lol.. I would definitely think they are a clown...
That said, I can appreciate PK and Max for growing the game to a different audience, something they have done extremely well and deserve praise. But when building a team, I can also see how 50% would be ok with that over the top personality, and 50% may be like me and get annoyed by that shit. So in some way I understand trying to find players with personalities that mesh well as a whole, which tend to be robotic.
Josh, from my understanding had a very similar personality to Naz. Very confident, and sometimes cocky and immature. Being late to practice was something Naz was famous for, but he figured it out eventually. In fact Naz grew away from his superstar mentality and completely redefined himself when he became a complete 200 ft player. Would you have ever expected that from Naz in his D+2 season? not a f***ing chance. Players learn from their mistakes, Josh can too
He was not being disrespectful in any way when he wore 66. He wore it to pay tribute to a legend of the game. How can a million defensemen wear #4 and it not be disrespectful to the greatest defensemen of all time, yet Josh wears 66 and its the ultimate disrespect. Makes zero sense
I think we will be pleasantly surprised with Josh TBH
