I would have thought a blow out win would have been preferable but reading all the crying and whining on here I think this is by far the best result that could have happened.

In the Gold medal game I hope Canada wins by having 10 guys on the ice tackling the Swedish players allowing Wayne Gretzky to run on the ice and throw the puck in the net for the winning goal. High fiving the ref as he leaves the ice would be the icing on the cake.

We have kicked everyones ass the traditional way for so long lets start having some fun with our complete domination.

Has there ever been a team that had an iffy call go in their favor that then came out and said we don't feel like this is a legit win for us?

And why should they feel that way. They were the better team, they deserved that win and they won 100% within the rules and in a 100% legit matter.

These are teenagers at a summertime exhibition we're talking about here. At the end of the day it's rather meaningless and players won't give two craps about it years from now. What happened is unfortunate. The US was ripped off, but it's not the end of the world, nor should Canadian teenagers be judged because of it.
However if these shenanigans happened in a meaningful event, this board would probably blow up.

According to the ref, and how he saw the play, the puck did and that's all that matters. I really think everyone just needs to let it go.

It was a great game to watch and yes, technically speaking, USA did win.

you're right, this USA "B" team should not have been in that position against Canada's top talent, but they were, and in a 60:00 min game they beat your A team.

Last time I checked this website was not a court-room, so you can drop the high and mighty approach.

No one disputes what was agreed upon. What is disputed is what actually happened. Hockey is a set amount of time. In that set amount of time, we have conclusive agreed upon proof that the USA had 5 goals and Canada had 4 goals. That results in a USA win.

I don't think anyone cares that much about this result, but lets not distort reality. The USA won. Canada was handed the game because of bad officiating and this disgraceful contract that you know so well about.

I mean I understand it comes from the European model that Americans of acting as though any lose doesn't matter to Canada because "their team doesn't care as much" when we know if they won they would be acting as though Canada was done as a hockey.

But it isn't like Canada hasn't whipped the Americans multiple times, in multiple tournaments with their A team. It isn't like Canada hasn't whipped the Americans many times with top Canadians missing.

Using the B team angle to try and discount the win is laughable at best.

Yes just like we had to watch out in 1996 when they fluked out the World Cup win.

2010 was the closest you came to beating us in a major mens tournament and in the 3 tournaments after that you haven't been close.

The myth of American hockey catching up is just that a myth. They have certainly become better than they were but they are no threat at all to catch Canada anytime soon, if at all.

Can't blame the refs per say.

It's just tough watching a bunch of B level kids pouring their hearts out on the ice against arguably the best team, only to lose because organizers can't provide rudimentary standard game technology.

A second rate tournament is a second rate tournament, but don't worry because the homers here will sway the facts and keep whining how it's somehow the best of the best for U18.
