I hope so.. it would be good to see Russia challenge again.. More good teams is better imo
Russia was one goal away from finals at last year's Hlinka. (And that was without Svechnikov and Khovanov I think)

Yeah Russia is loaded this year and Finland is very weak especially without Kakko+Honka. Europe in general it's a down year IMO except for Russia who have a lot of elite talent. Raymond+Holtz are going to be special for 2020 also
Finland isn't weak. I don't know what happened in this game but their '01s are good. Honka is late '00 so he's not even eligible.
Only Sweden and Switzerland have down years in my opinon. (Out of the European top 6 nations)

I'm talking draft wise mainly and other than the big 2 Finland doesn't have much at the moment other than Kokkonen. Obviously the draft is still almost a year away and plenty of time for players to improve but this tournament gives a good gauge what countries class strength is other than the US.

Heavy forecheck leads to a goal

Edit: what the ****? Why doesn't that count

I was as bewildered until the replay. It was the right call, even though it wasn’t an intentional knee. The Swiss player doesn’t throw it in his own net without it.

Still gotta love the forechecking leading to that play.

But even if it was a penalty a Canadian player didn't touch the puck.

Bizarre.

I can never understand why defensemen push opponents into their own goalies on purpose, but it seems to be popular throughout even the NHL.

My coaches in junior hockey would’ve immediately benched my ass for doing that. Injury risk, puts the goalie out of position, won’t ever get you a call, etc. Makes no sense. Clear the crease; don’t fill it!

I am ecstatic over the play of Michael Vukojevic. I think he’ll surprise a ton of people this tournament. His defensive game is without blemish and definitely his calling card, but look at the move he just pulled on the blue line, and the crossbar he hit earlier, and the accuracy of his zone exit passes, and his considerable skating ability.

Dylan Cozens has also been noticeably dominant so far, and will consolidate an early top-10 (top-5?) ranking by the end of this tournament. (As he scores on a beautiful shot)

Cozens is a top 5 probably top 3 pick.

Big, strong 200 foot centre that can skate and play with that kind of skill are coveted.

He's miles better than any centres from the 2018 draft.

Lafreniere is such a stud. Goes without saying but seeing him play live handful of times this year it was rare he wasn't the best player on the ice at 16. Pelletier is another real good player. Always competes and has skills. Not sure his ceiling, but I like him to have a real good year this year in the Q.

Vukojevic is definitely underrated and I see him as a potential top 10-15 pick in the upcoming draft.

Dach and Krebs will fight it out with him. Plus there is also Turcotte, who I think is the best non-Hughes player in the draft. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but this draft is quite deep on potential centers. Then there is also Blake Murray and Ryan Suzuki in the OHL.
