I'm getting a good chuckle out of the people that don't seem to realize there are 2 groups and 8 teams in this tournament. I keep reading replies like 'TSN feed is excellent', 'TSN is on all platforms', 'get a VPN and watch TSN'... here is the thing. TSN is covering the totally ****ty group with almost no drama. The other group is considerably stronger and is on a terrible feed... no commentators, no replays of goals and one camera angle through a screen.

i understand the commentary and one camera angle gripes but for future reference there is a button on my screen that i can press that rewinds the stream by 10 seconds if you do want to see a replay of a goal. obviously still not the most ideal but it is something.

Well, tomorrow is a new day. All we need to do to make semis is beat russia and finland back to back... no problem.lol

I'm talking draft wise mainly and other than the big 2 Finland doesn't have much at the moment other than Kokkonen. Obviously the draft is still almost a year away and plenty of time for players to improve but this tournament gives a good gauge what countries class strength is other than the US.

Henri Nikkanen

Our D is terrible. Kokkonen is ok but otherwise pretty meh. Offense should have been good but we always suck in this tournament and it doesn't matter how good the group supposed to be. Especially now that it is in North America. There goes our final chance.

As expected and predicted, the swiss got butchered.

Strong canadien team vs. weak swiss team, on small ice will get you results like that.

Only positive thing for the swiss, the competition will get a bit weaker for the next 2 games. Against Sweden, they might get a goal or 2, against Slovakia, they might got a change to make it somehow a close game.

That Czech Republic - USA game reminded me so much of the Bronze medal game at the U20 level. Terrible hockey and, you don't even know how, USA leads 4:0.
I don't know what's up with this Czech team. They have had great results last year in U17 and the pre-tournament win against Canada was very promising. Yet when the real games start, they completely fall apart, fail to convert anything (they had a lot of chances in the 1st half) and make rookie mistakes in defense. The same exact formula applies to last year's U17 WHC. That tournament the Czech '01s were lucky the playoff system was so soft and every team got into quaterfinals. (Czechs eventually won bronze)

Hard to tell how good this US team is at this point, but the 2001 birth year is extremely deep for USA Hockey and on paper this is a pretty good roster, even if it's still a B team.

How many of these players could make your A team or is this truly your all B team.
if so, then how good is the A team?

The only guy who I think would be a lock if the American's they are taking their absolute best team is Kaliyev. There'd be some debate lower down the line-up. Dustin Wolf probably gets in as a back-up goalie behind Knight.

I'd say the USA is missing probably 8 of their top 9 forwards in Jack Hughes, Turcotte, Zegras, Caufield, Boldy, Beecher, Sean Farell, and Ryder Rolston. There top 4 D would probably be Hellson, Thurn, York and Case McCarthy. So, they are pretty much-missing everyone except one guy in their top 9, their top 2 pairings and their starting goalie. The depth roles could be debated to death.

Canadian team looks excellent. The D are so solid, rock steady, all-around defencemen. They all got size and mobility, finish their checks and they can move it up well. Nobody looks like an excellent PP guy or super offensively creative, but I can see NHL top-pairing defencemen on this roster. The top offensive players are superb, Dach, Krebs, Lafreniere, Cozens, Suzuki.

Dach, specifically is just a beast. He's got great mobility for his size and a non-stop motor. That's already tough to handle, but the vision, puck control, and passing ability makes me want to take him in the top 3. 6'3-6'4 fast, playmaking centres are rare breeds.

That Finland doesn't succeed Hlinka Gretzky cup this year doesn't mean that Finland can't win a medal next years U18 WJC's.

Don't talk bullshit.
Kokkonen isn't only great prospect what Finland has in their Hlinka team this year.

Have you never heard guys like Christoffer, Sedoff, Anton Lundell, Kasper Simontaival and Veeti Miettinen.
Yes those guys are 2020 draft eligible s but so what.

Why does the USA not send there top players.

Will be interesting to see how many 02's can make the Swedish U18 WJC team this season. Guys like William Eklund, Zion Nybeck and Theodor Niederbach would not look out of place in this tournament.

They don't send the USNTDP U-18 team. They prioritize the U-18 WJC in May. The USNTDP kids have a long season, and entering their U-18 year have spent a significant time away from home, some for the first time. Considering the USNTDP kids go to school in Michigan, they don't finish the school year and can go home until early June. Calling them in for a tournament in early-August that used to be in the Czech Republic would be giving these kids maybe 4 to 6 weeks to actually go home and see family. Plus, most of these kids next year will have all the pre-draft stuff. Giving them until late-August to report back probably helps avoid burnout. Although, a bunch of the CHL kids have a similar burden, although, outside of the WHL kids, most are in reasonable proximity to their parents.

I never said anything about U18 WJC's.

Everything is possible even in this tournament.

Don't talk bull****.

Relax, it's just one game. You don't have to be angry to other people because of their opinions. You have your own, and they have their own. You should respect that.

So Canada wins 10-0 and US 6-0... Russia destroys Finland as well. I thought the games would've been closer (especially the Russia/Finland one)... hoping the Russians are overconfident and underestimate us. Noticed Hadamczak (my least favourite coach in Czech history) mentioned it was even for one period... that is true and it looked competitive but the game is 3 periods and hard to find moral victories in 6-0 losses. I saw a lot of bad plays that led to goals. Really hoping today is better.
