It would be best if any fan suggest a trade to his/her/other team to start by declaring....

"I want to fleece the Habs and this is what I propose"....it would save a lot of time.

Lehky is fine where he is, unless there is a win trade...and make no mistake since he's not on the market that it has to be a win trade for us, then there is absolutely no interest in trading him. NONE. ZIP. NADA.

So start with a 1st and we can talk about add.....

Why would you trade him for a pick that you hope turns out as good as him? You keep the young sure thing all day long.

The habs already have too many middle 6 wingers in the nhl, and they also have a ton of winger prospects:

-Roy
-Farrell
-Heineman
-Smilanic
-Kapanen
-Mysak
-Ylonen
-Biondi
-Tuch
-Harvey-Pinard

The habs have the players to replace Lehkonen, so they are better off getting assets back than to sign him to a contract, which they might end up regretting later (see Byron and Armia).

Still not interested largely because we are stuck with Compher. Rather trade Laehks to another team and get a better 1st round pick. Or better yet, hold onto Lehks!

Also would like to see Dvorak play a full season before trading him…

Fair points. I wouldn't want JTC either if I was GM Hughes

Makes sense to also wait on Dvorak too unless you get an offer that's too good to refuse. Hughes wasn't the GM who traded for him though so maybe he'd be open to moving him.

How do Montreal fans feel about a package like this:

Lehkonen + Dvorak for 2023 1st + Compher + pick/prospect*

*Please feel free to suggest the value of the pick or which prospect it should be.

The return for Montreal would primarily be about the futures. Compher is there to balance money a bit and give MTL a 3C to replace Dvorak in the short term.

Fwiw Colorado have been interested in both of those players before and they often circle back on players they like when they're available.
Change it to Dvorak OR Lehkonen and the package makes sense.

That’s pick would need to be another 1st to be interesting for Mtl

I'm not against moving 1st + Barron in the right deal, but both those assets aren't going to get moved in a trade for Lehkonen alone.

Thanks for weighing in.
Look at what guys like Hagel, Coleman, Goodrow brought back... Habs want the same for Lekhonen. And that is about the price I just asked for. A very low 1st and a B prospect

Who says yes? Who says no?
Don't know? Don't know your prospects that well. Sounds like solid offer though. The first and Barron I like. But Ranta? Compher what is he defensive specialist or something?

Ranta is a 4th line forward who is high energy and physical, with strong potential for growth.

I'll choose honesty with Compher: he makes $3.5 million AAV for another year and is not worth it, but he fits on a 3rd line for a majority of NHL teams. He can be gritty, right-handed shot. Someone you can definitely pencil in on the roster and may do better next year during a contract year.

I know but we have so many wingers now. Drop those 2 players give us couple 2nds instead? We retain 50% on Lehks

I’m in the “it’s dumb to trade him” camp but let’s accept the talk is legit and he has significant interest.

Where’s he going. Rangers possibly? Caps? Maybe the Pens?

Once you start breaking down what playoff teams are after, cap hit next year, where he fits on their team, compensation, etc, the list shrinks quite a bit. Down to at the most, a half dozen playoff teams you can even make a case for. Not even counting if they’d be willing to pay the price for him.

He’s not exactly one of those Tampa types who they go out and get. Like it or not, he’s a good all-around forward, but… not exactly someone who’s going to be hard to play against, and he did not have a great playoff last year.

The good thing for Montreal would be, they don’t have to move him to a contender, as he’s not a rental. He might be worth more to a team who sees itself in the mix 2-3 years from now and might not be a team who is able to attract free agents.

The team who could really use him, fit him in, and he’d be a real good player for them in the coming years, would be Buffalo. They also have prospects/picks the Habs would look for.

To often we think the deadline is only for contenders. It can be argued Detroit not only received the picks for Mantha last year, but the way Vrana has played for them (although because of the injury it’s still a small sample) he could be the best, long term acquisition from last year’s deadline.

So IF they’re moving him, it won’t necessarily be to a playoff team. Could see Columbus, Anaheim, Detroit, and Buffalo looking at him for the next few years. Most of those teams have a nice pool of prospects Montreal would be interested in.

The problem with those teams, especially Detroit and Anaheim (don’t have problems getting UFAs) is they would likely want to wait until the summer.

So, IF he’s moved, people certainly shouldn’t discount non-playoff teams. In fact, I’d suggest they’d have a better chance being compensated. A reason they should probably wait until the summer.

However, if he’s going to be moved at this deadline, I’d say Dallas would be the team to watch out for. He could be a solid piece for their playoff push and obviously moving forward over the next few years. If it’s a non playoff team? I’d say Buffalo.

Compher has to go for cap reasons, even with the retention I think. Ranta can be replaced with a 2nd.

For now keep him.

In 4-5 years, the youth (Caufield, Suzuki etc...) in their prime and maybe he is the veteran missing piece.
Unless you get a very good potential top 6 player on a team that's willing to overpay.... (like Newhook !!!)

I'll remind everyone, Montreal traded Chris Chelios (HOF) for Denis Savard and won the cup.
Was it worth it?
You bet it did, last time they won it.

If not this type of overpayment....you KEEP him.

Hell no it wasn't worth it. Savard did not even play the last game.
