What’s the vibe from Pittsburgh on who is winning the election?

I am NOT trying to coax out a political statement, debate the merits of either candidate or anything like that - just interested in hot takes with Pennsylvania being really critical either way.

Polsters deserve their bad reps, so, interested in gut-feelings from residents.

I believe Pittsburgh and Allegheny county will be Blue. The farther you get from where the three rivers meet the more Red the population gets. But there's fewer people.

I'm more interested (worried) what Erie County will do.

I think pa will to blue but it’s tight. The entire state outside of the cities is red. Like Randy said, Erie is a big deal. It’s right on the edge of being city vs rural demographic.

It sounds like you’re just broken. Hate to see it.

I feel the same about dark souls and elder scrolls. These look like what I want on paper but I don’t like them.

Completely and utterly broken.

The Souls games wear their danger to me proudly...when stress makes you literally ill you eventually figure out that games built around difficulty are a bad idea. If I could play those I'd probably love them, but I know I won't so I don't try.

As for the Alien movies...I only acknowledged the first couple until a few years ago. I don't actually hate the lesser Alien movies half as much as I expected to. The Assembly Cut of Alien 3 actually makes that a decent watch (the theatrical cut is very much a 4/10 movie) and Resurrection is just kinda stupid fun that I actually kinda enjoyed. I think a couple podcasts may have helped there, because it's a watchably bad movie rather than just a boring bad movie.
Prometheus was good and flawed, as was Covenant. Some good ideas with uneven execution. I haven't seen the newest one yet, but I'm sure it's in the same boat.

Maybe it's just that my expectations were in the toilet, but the theatrical cut of Alien 3 is the only one of them I'd say isn't worth watching once. It is one of the biggest leaps in quality between cuts, even if Fincher had nothing to do with it.

The walking dead shit all over itself but got better near the end but it was too little too late by then.

But the spin off shows - The ones for Negan, Daryl, and the Rick and Michonne one were fantastic. Especially the Book of Daryl. Everyone knew the cast got too big and it just didn't work trying to shove all of the stories in one show, it's what was an issue with Game of Thrones too imo.

They've learned from that too with their new show and spin offs. You almost need a cross over episode at times which is fine and better to do than shove it all into one massive show.

The Daryl one was good in both seasons. I get the Rick one was just a wrap up which was weird since I thought it'd be a movie. The Negan one showed which character was a problem - Maggie. Maggie sucks.

I don't dislike them for being so hard even, I just genuinely find the combat to be dull and clunky. I guess that's somewhat because of difficulty itself because you have to play smart/safe pretty much all the time. But even then, I don't think something like Devil May Cry is easier, but I do think it's much more fun.

Part of it is I guess how much you tend to need to redo when you do die. That bugs me. Celeste is another very hard game that I loved and beat. The key is that when you die you restart right before the obstacle that killed you.

yeah that's mostly what I've heard about the rest after 3; worth watching but flawed. I'll probably get to them eventually.

wow I had no clue there were so many spinoff shows. The only thing I know about any of those shows is that the Daryl show has some silly double subtitle thing like The Walking Dead -- Daryl Dixon: The book of Carol or something  Good to hear they are giving some sort of solid endings at least. I gave up on that in S3 or 4 I think. I think I finished 3 and just never came back. Just couldn't keep up while I was teaching middle school and never felt the need to dive back in.

You're definitely right that GoT eventually spreads itself too thin, especially the books. And then the show tried to fix that and speed things up and made things a million times worse instead.

on a different movie note, just watched Tick Tick Boom. I thought it was a bit uneven getting going but once it got momentum I really liked it. Andrew Garfield is just great.

I've never seen the movie but the 30/90 cover Garfield did for the movie is amazing, I have that on my playlist.

It's crazy that he didn't know how to sing going into that movie but still was terrific in it.

Something we learned was the original show runners that everyone hated on after - did not want to rush the final season. They wanted to do movies. HBO said no. So then they forced them into a shit show. HBO finally admitted all of that and now are open to doing movies to wrap up stuff like that because they see how it's easier to wrap up stories for viewers.

A shame it took them until now to figure that shit out. Because that final season was such a shit show, it ruined the careers of the two show runners.

Their plan was 3 movies to wrap it all up.

yeah I saw that he learned for the role, it’s crazy. He’s super good in it both singing and acting in general.

Depending when that plan was happening I can see giving them a bit of a pass. But the show was cracking in s5 and s6 already, and s7 isn’t really any better than s8.

Crazy night in PGH, both candidates closing on in Pittsburgh, my gut feeling is that I will be miserable next 4 years, Pens will fit in just fine in overall depressed state of my mind

For me, I think most that didn't read the books didn't know that the books were 60% garbage meandering and filler and the show couldn't hide it anymore when the content from the books themselves got super thin as well as the ideas past the books.

The new shows are easier because it is less of the wider characters thrown in and focuses on a smaller portion which would have been easier from the start for D&D when they ran the show. I gave up after the original show. Haven't gotten into the new one and I hear it's good but the books were lame and the show did what it could and then shit the bed from series 5 on. By the time it got to the last few seasons, banging his aunt and the other shit was like whatever...then the end of the show was based on Martin's idea for the end so the runners got all the hate and Martin didn't which always cracked me up.

For the trio f***ing that first show up, the current new one benefit heavily from it. So some good did come from all of them f***ing it up.

What Amazon is doing with LOTR is far worse.

It's a two party system of which dipshit is less of a dipshit than the other dipshit. Neither side is great, one side has bigger twats than the other and finding out which side blokes lay on just disappoints everyone that finds out.

Great time for all.

When both should be sitting down and realizing they have valid points and also shitty points that need to be done away with, the whole head of state bullshit is archaic as f*** and needs to be done away with.

The books are meandering, but they are great imo. It’s only problematic in the sense that it’s still not moving to an ending. Which obviously is a problem but I still loved reading it.

But he’s probably planning to do it over like 2000 extra pages of information that they skipped to get there. I mean he’s never going to finish it, but still. If he does im confident it will be drastically better even if it ends at many of the same places.

Nah they were nice enough to make it suck from the start instead of pulling a bait and switch

The fun part is that both sides are actually on the same basic “side” of the spectrum compared to most of the world, one is just further that way than the other. Watching right leaning moderates get called radical is really something

Thing is he sees how poorly the ending went over with fans. So now he can change it and no one would know. They'd just blame the show for shitting all over his ideas when really, they were his ideas and he has the benefit of changing that shit up.

For me the books were a slog after the first one, half way through the second I immediately regret getting into them, lol. The show was a reprieve when it was finally released.

I see the shit going on in the UK, then the US, and then in Canada and I really wish I was raised somewhere without a bunch of :eek::eek::eek::eek: running for the jobs, lol.

Between Martin, Rothfuss, Scott Lynch, I've kind of made the operative decision that I will no longer begin a series until it ends. I've been burned too many times.

Especially Rothfuss. Honestly, **** that guy and his magus beard.
The worst part is that I was dumb and didn’t even look into it. I was just walking through barns and noble looking for a book and saw the box set. I heard there was an hbo show coming and the books were good so I bought them without realizing it wasn’t finished.
