Since pizza talk keeps creeping into most of our hockey discussions & it's usually my fault, it's about time we have a dedicated place to talk about pizza & whatever else excites your palate. I know we had an Iron Chef thread, but let's make this one open to all cuisines that are either great restaurants that we've visited or meals cooked at home by our members. Try to list the name & location of the place you went to or if you feel generous your recipe if you made it yourself! Also don't forget to post your beverages of choice here. Always fun to see what everyone is drinking, especially local beers!

Since my GF's brother is in town from Florida this week, he wanted to go for pizza, so we're considering taking him to Ignazio's in Mystic or Luna Pizza here in West Hartford. I'll let him decide, as I've been to both....

Here's Luna...

Here's Ignazios...(they also do a Sicilian)

Dammit, I want pizza now. I love pizza. My wife and I both have this saved and send it to each other like once every 2 weeks.

I also want beer. It’s not my season for beer though. I really heavily prefer fall and winter brews.

Henrik also loves peesha.

BBQ isn't my favorite because so many places screw it up, but when it's good it's delicious. The better BBQ I've had were places that were rubbed & smoked....sauce on the side.

I love BBQ but I basically don’t eat it in NY. When I was living in Texas and found the best spots, BBQ was a passion. I love attempting to get it right with the green egg in the backyard, but you can’t beat Lockhart’s, Terry Black’s or Franklin’s.

No sauce. Period. Sauce goes on the side. BBQ is a cooking method - not a sauce. Putting BBQ sauce on something doesn’t make it BBQ. Grilling isn’t BBQing. BBQ takes hours, not 30 minutes over a grill.

I rarely use sauce but if I do its just a quick dip because I prefer the flavor of the sausage or dry rubbed ribs.

Thee difference is the seasonings used. Not meat. Texas uses more pepper based seasoning and dry rubs. NC is vinegar based and is not nearly as good.

And beef ribs (especially bison) are amazing. And brisket is king!

Aome pwople swear by Blacks which is near Austin as well. But for my money the food and ambiance is better at salt lick. Their seasonings and bbq sauce is the best. I cant wait till i am there again in November. I can taste it

Agree with all of this. I swear by Terry Black’s. The brisket and beef ribs are just my perfect seasoning. The Mac and cheese is amazing as well. The one they opened in Dallas has a cool open ambience. Salt Licks is good too.

You have a Green Egg?!? I've always wanted to cook with one of those...but if I was gonna spend that much on a grill, I'd prefer a Santa Maria style...

@Boris Zubov good call on this thread. I don’t think you are angry anymore, and get MVP votes from me.
I was never angry....I have no idea where you got that from LOL. I might curse a bit at players in the GDT but once the game is over I'm Kool & the Gang!

All set, couldn‘t carry the pictures over, and ignore the reaction from NYRFANMANI had to copy one of your older posts, lol.
Thanks, I added the pics.

Brooklyn is big! I’ve mostly lived in Bushwick/BedStuy/Williamsburg with a little bit of Ridgewood. I don’t think I’ve tried any of those.

Which place is that from?

I think Revello's is the best in Old Forge.
I think it's either Maroni's or Alfredo's...I pulled it off a Barstool review. I would never eat anything that looked like that or had American cheese on it.

The round pies in Scranton like Jerry's, Angelo's & Sabatini's look better than a lot of the traditional Old Forge styles. I did like Arcaro's & Genelli very much...it's the only pizza I've had in the area.

How bout DaVinci in Bay Ridge or Best Pizza in Williamsburg?

I've been by Best Pizza and was curious but have not tried yet. I'll keep my eye out for DaVinci. Right now I think my go-to slice is the Freddy Prinze with pepperoni at Paulie Gee's slice shop. Not saying it't the best to be had, that's just what I go for whenever I'm within a mile.

If you live close to Best Pizza, you'd be insane not to make that your local spot for slices. It's easily in my top 10 favorite pizzerias. I'm not sure what I like better, the regular or the grandma.

5 towns, New York. Marinara’s. Thin Crust and best sauce.
Gone but not forgotten:
San Remos in Long Beach.
Base of the Loop Parkway, cannot recall the name. Sesame Seed Crust.
Honorable mention: Basil Pizza Astoria. Great sauce, thin crust.

I just googled Marinara's. Is it in Hewlett on Peninsula Blvd? If so, their pizza looks excellent...plus they do a Grandma slice. Need to stop in there the next time I visit my sister.

The Freddie Prinze at Paulie Gees (Greenpoint) has a sesame crust as well.

I’ve been there, the Salt Lick is amazing

Because the cheese melts into the sauce. It’s amazing.
I was just f***ing with you, brother. I’m glad you enjoy it!

Some say good BBQ doesn't need sauce.

CORRECT. IT DOES NOT.

That's Provel cheese.. Half provolone half Velveeta. Do with that information as you wish.

However, no NYC pizzeria has even been envious of a pie with Provel on it.

I just googled Mr Bruno's. That Sicilian is right up my alley. Wish I was closer.
Velveeta on a pizza would be anathema to me, but I’m not about really yucking anyone’s yum beyond good natured ball busting.

Whoa, I didn’t expect to see Delmar’s here. It’s honestly average, but better than your every day neighborhood pizzeria.

If that’s on the list, we should also add J&R’s on Kings Highway to the niche but neighborhood staples list.

Now to add, I tried a pizzeria a while back that @Boris Zubov recommended. I forgot which one, but it was pretty fire.

I also mentioned a while back how Artichoke Basille’s pizza is garbage. I stand by that statement, however I just had their actual artichoke pizza which I’m assuming is what they’re known for and it was amazing. It’s not pizza though, as I stand firm that pizza has to have red sauce (points at you, New Haven with your clam “pizza”).

My favorites in no order aside from the first:

DiFara’s
Lucali’s
L&B Spumoni Gardens
Prince Street Pizza
Roberta’s

I don’t really see any scenario where any of those get knocked off my top 5.

Most overrated:

Totonno’s
Pizza Suprema

New York pizza is overrated as the New York rangers. It’s a fact.

The best pizza places you’re going to find are in New Jersey and Connecticut with Rhode Island a close second.
