He's better defensively than Selke winner Toews. Yeah, honestly!

(But the best defensive forwards are rarely honored by the Selke, which seems to be more of a top-6 scoring line player who plays good defense award these days. Carbo is the perfect player to name an award that does what the Selke used to do: recognize defensive-first play by forwards, and the best of the bunch.)

Yeah, I look at past winners: John Madden, Michael Peca, Jere Lehtinen, Doug Jarvis, Steve Kasper etc.

Wouldn't see that nowadays.

Exactly, Carbonneau, Meagher, Graham, Murray and the like were all career 3rd liners who won Selkes. It's been 21 years since a non-top-6 forward has won the best defensive forward award! (despite plenty of quality defense-first third liners).

McClement is a deserving Selke finalist. Of that I have no doubt (Gawd I still hate the Leafs). TSN, the Toronto Sports Network, at least saw a deserving candidate to honour.

And we missed perhaps the most offensively challenged of them all, Kris Draper (although he did win it in his best offensive campaign)
