Here's the cliff, everyone jump. EDM wins 4-2

How many of you thought the Oilers would be the team basically knock the Kings out of the playoffs when the season started? This game was a micrcosom of the entire season. Listless effort, no sustained forcheck, playing down to competition, defensive mistakes costing us goals, top offensive guys not getting it done. It's all right there tonight.

Can't wait to see Kopitar playing at the world hockey championship!

He should skip it and start his off season program. After game 80 of the regular season, Kopitar with 16 goals, and Doughty with 1 PP goal. If we had heard that before the start of the season, I would be thinking along the lines of the Kings finished 14th in the Western Conference.

Also, can't believe the Oilers showed up tonight. I mean, I believe it because we pounded them 8-2 last game but they know that beating LA meant Calgary would inch closer to a playoff spot. If the Maple Leafs were in that situation (playing a team fighting for a playoff spot vs the Sens), they would've probably thrown that game away.

I don't even think fitness is a problem with Kopitar. He simply didn't shoot the puck this year, at all pretty much.

If Kopitar had put about 50 more shots on net over the year he probably would have had about Seven/Ten more goals.

That's a stupid and immature tweet. Reminds me of something you would get from FearTheFin.

Comedians write down 10 jokes and decide that 1 is funny, and then use it.

He writes down 10 jokes and decides they're all funny when only 1 is.

Don't worry he'll start impressing you after he secures that 8x10 contract.

you can add Brown to that list too.

I disagree. His contract is very expensive but I'm sure teams will line up for someone like that. He's a 3rd line captain making almost $6M/year. Why do people think he is untouchable? Give Doughty the captain and trade Brown, it really isn't math. The guy has been horrible last two years.

We didn't cycle the puck at all this game, we played to the Oilers strength (run & gun) and it cost us.

One thing's for sure: Whatever happens in the last two games, after what's gone down the last three seasons there is no way I'm going to **** on this team.

Fair enough. The team, coaches and management deserve plenty of love and appreciation for what they accomplished, it was truly a remarkable three year run.

That being said, if you are going to give them all this praise when they do great things, when people say Sutter is the best coach, or DL is the best GM or Doughty is the best d-man etc. You simply can't ignore the disaster that this team was on the ice, behind the bench and upstairs this season.

If they get a ton of credit when they win and make the right moves they should shoulder plenty of blame when they make terrible moves.

Every team/Hockey player wants to win, just read how the buffalo players hate being in Buffalo right now with fans cheering for losses.

It's called pride.

There is no such thing as tanking on purpose by NHL players. That is a complete myth.

I know it's an obvious thing to say but 2 points in October is worth as much as 2 points in April. The Kings needed a better effort all year, just because they lost to the Oilers tonight doesn't mean that the Oilers knocked the Kings out of the playoff picture. It's a cumulative effect of an entire season of inconsistency.

No worries Kings hockey always pervails. It looks bad like tonight in regular season but come playoffs every inch of ice matters and puck control wins. Also Quick wins games without much help needed. Calgary will be on outside looking in. We will destroy Canucks in 4 games. Then it does not matter who we play.

lolwut? The Kings have struggled with Calgary all year, you really think they're gonna go into the Saddledome and win? And then Calgary is gonna lose to Winnipeg? And then LA is gonna beat San Jose? Cmon man. The Kings have overcome adversity plenty of times but this one is too much for even them.

I think our biggest asset that needs retooling is our coaching staff. Not saying get rid of them but I do think they need to develop the system we have in place to include a more comprehensive O game as well as learning to rely on young players more often in favor of shoving out any "vet" they can find. To me we will replace the players we need to replace and get the ones we need to keep signed without much trouble. The coaching staff is where we need some work.

His contract makes him unmovable. Cap space right now, is the most valuable commodity a team can have.

I admire your optimism but the Kings looks burnt out. So much hockey the least 3 years plus last years playoffs was an epic marathon combined with incredible comebacks. Don't know how much L.A. has left in the tank.

I wish we had played Richards over Stoll tonight - if there's one thing Richards has, it's heart.

C'mon really? Stoll has every bit as much heart as Mike Richards. Stoll does what he can with the talent he has at his disposal, and you can never say that he is unprepared. Can the same be said about the other guy?

We could beat Calgary :dunno:

Like we're pretty good

People might laugh but your Jets would actually be my pick for a dark horse to win the Cup this year.

Of course, if you look at our FGOG you'd see I'm not the best at picking dark horses. :)

Might as well keep losing to get a better spot in the lottery.

Muzzin/Martinez/Voynov are all getting paid way too much. Matt Greene, Mike Richards, Jarrett Stoll and Justin Williams should all be gone (Greene is going to be here though, no way we get rid of that contract). This is gong to be a brand news team next season, should be very interesting to see what Lombardi is going to do. He hasn't had to make drastic changes in forever. Like I said earlier, the Kings were a game away from being swept in the first round vs San Jose and if they did, those drastic changes would've probably happened last summer. It was always going to happen though, just a year later.

Oh I'm not saying this year wasn't bad, I'm just saying that I have faith that the same people who brought us the last three seasons prior to this one are still here. There WILL be changes, no one doubts that, and deservedly so. The Richards situation is a costly one, and I guearantee you Lombardi learned from it, but we still have yet to see how that plays out. As I said, I have faith.
