Sounded to me like his target was above him when he said "gotta be careful what I say"
Don't disagree that turk was a target but I thought it was a cross of both. If he said what he wanted he would've shit on Turk for allowing his teammates to play like shit and keep getting all the ice time. Trouba isn't targeting carpenters and the low hanging fruit. He was going after the big boys on this team and the manner in which they are allowed to do what they do. You can't criticize the coach in this case while absolving the big dogs on the team, and trouba is doing everything he can even while he's injured. More heart coming off 8 tonight then the rest of the core combined

There's also something seriously wrong with this team in the 'puck skills' department.

I dont believe it's by chance. They are degenerating. Whatever they're doing is not working. I can't believe they practice because they're that bad..

Mika can no longer handle a simple pass or puck. Laffy loses it way too easily. No one can shoot quickly. No one can shoot accurately. the list goes on and on...

new coaching staff and integrate them through the lineup... how Gallant had them to start the year but changed for 'reasons'. Everything was going well, albeit was only a few games... Downhill since then

Also you have to give them Special Teams time.
And special teams schemes that work for them. Have them be the key trigger pieces, not just pass through points for the puck. There's so much wrong with the current coaching group it's honestly comical but even more so infuriating.

I could buy this.

They certainly play a dinosaur ass brand of offense.
In all seriousness what is the brand of offense? We don't chip and chase, we don't cycle, we don't point shot with traffic and tips, what is the offensive scheme?

I see a team that keeps moving it on the perimeter thinking the d will keep adjusting and eventually allow a hole for a cross pass. I mean it's almost routine that eventually the two wingers end up STANDING on the dots with and without the puck. There is no penetration of the house via the puck or traffic. It's why bottom tier goalies look great against us.

Even when we were good players like zib would drive the slot without the puck and be in motion. When players become stationary the way we are it makes defense VERY easy.

I’m so disgusted I don’t even want to play around with the lines anymore………..

Mika-Goodrow-Kakko
Lafreniere-Hollweg-Orr
Ortymeyer-Panarin-Jones
Voros-Fox-Vesey

Give me that. I guarantee you it won’t be worse than the horsef***ingshit we’ve been watching the last few weeks.

At least we’ll get to see Voros bleeding instead of Lindgren.
WHAT????? No Hossa?

Part of what you are describing is just confidence. Lack of it will destroy your hands as a hockey player

Historically this is when players simplify the game and resort to the chip and chase forecheck with just picks to the net WITH bodies crashing in an attempt to simplify the game bc the hands aren't there.

It isn't a brand. You're right and that's exactly the problem.

They're waiting for offense to just magically happen.

And it's getting worse.

I think the real first step to this is to stop having them deferring to Panny, Zib or Kreider. This is not how they got to the NHL. The coach staff also needs to integrate their games into the mix.

Lafreniere absolutely sucks right now but I was watching highlights from the playoffs the other night and it was wild how much better he looked. yeah they were just highlights and he didn't light up the score sheet then either but it reminded me of how he looked. he was constantly creating chances and hounding the puck, making nice little plays with the puck or against a defender that led to chances. he was full of confidence for once, wtf happened to him? it looked like he had finally turned a corner. he looks so much slower and low energy now.

The short summer probably cut in to his training.

Also he's not training the right way and we don't know his nutrition. That's on the Rangers and their staff. He should be training to become more explosive and work on deficiencies.

I remember a few years ago when Darius Slayton on the Giants did a behind the scenes day in the life of after his rookie season and he was eating a cold cut sandwich and canned soup for lunch. I was shocked.

And see this is why respectfully the cf stats and others showing our great possession didn't impress me earlier in the season. You can possess the puck standing in the corner for 45 seconds of a shift and accomplish nothing while the other team gets it and streak right down crashing the met hard for a goal.

That is NOT a shot at analytics, but rather an attempt to stress the need for context of the stats. Possessing and doing nothing means nothing. O zone time with the puck means nothing if you aren't creating or making the other team work, and with as much hockey as I try to watch around the league I feel like our offense and team are one of the 5 easiest to play against.

All that time I wasn't attacking analytics, I was trying to stress the need for context with the paper stats. They go hand in hand

I truly think this team plays our shit 'zone-man' scheme in practice and think it works.

Against competent defenses, 2-4 players are always standing still and are easily defended. I make a point to always look at the rest of the ice instead of the puck carrier, especially when Panarin or Fox have the puck.... there's little to nothing available. Panarin forces it way too much trying to make something out of nothing. There's no one open. There's no passing lanes. There's no shooting lanes. It's honestly a miracle we create what we create.

I don't necessarily disagree and I don't think it's mutually exclusive.

I think we've had a handful of games this year where we were just unlucky not to win but we're actually playing a lot more shitty recently.

Gallant putting Goodrow and Vesey in the top six to put his f***ing crutch line back together was a turning point in that regard.

You know how you open lanes? You establish the shot and then the defense starts getting chaotic trying to block shots which opens up passing lanes. When other teams don't respect your shot your passing options disappear.

Even Joe was clearly mad on the broadcast. I've never heard him like that. He was never a Ranger and the MSG team has always kept a level head and a very partisan demeanor. But tonight, Joe was outwardly frustrated. Was clearly upset with the powerplay and the top guys. Was basically expressing, how could you let your hurt captain go out there and leave it on the ice for what should be a meaningless game?

Vally should be an assistant coach. He is too smart to be sitting in the booth. He should be on the bench and in the room with the team. He wouldn't stand for this shit. The teams he played for and the reason he loves this franchise was cause they were tough. They werent talented, but they fought. You need that.
Valiquette as an assistant coach? Lol. He can write his own ticket for any GM job with the path he’s on. On most nights, he’s the best part of the broadcast. Intelligent, articulate, insightful, he is second to none.

I know you meant well, but assistant coach? Miles beneath him.

Maybe they were in the top 6, maybe one of those lines was the 3rd line behind the kids?🤔

Regardless, that is a whole different topic that is roster construction, but the construction has nothing to do with effort or accountability. Accountability breeds effort, and accountability starts with the coach...

It'll work in practice if the Rangers practice against it using the "cycle the puck around the perimeter until everyone's tired" offensive system they've got going on!

Rangers are lucky they are not totally out the it by now with their piss poor play. They are still only 1 point out of a playoff spot. This is why changes need to happen now.

Being medicore is the shittiest position to be in. Changes are more unlikely now, as the people on top think "we just need a bounce for things to start going right".

It would be better if we just straight up sucked. Because of our goaltending, that ain't gonna happen.
