If he pouts and leaves the organization because he isn't made Coach then he's even more selfish than I thought. Thats all speculation of course

I must say, if it wasn't for the Messier rumors, we wouldn't have much to talk about.

Messier won a Hart and a Cup with the Rangers, but I don't see how that makes him fit for any sort of front office duty, let alone a HC position.

I have seen no evidence that he has a great hockey mind. I have however seen evidence of a person that would put his own needs and image ahead of what is best for the team.

I see literally no positives that Messier could bring to the Rangers as coach, and I would rather that he was not a part of the organization period. His pedigree might give him influence, and I doubt he would use (or currently uses) it in a manner that will help this club.

Thanks for the good years Mark, but please stay away!

Can someone more knowledgeable than me on hockey matters tell me their opinion on Bylsma as a possible head coach for this team.

I think there's a lot of concern as he's fell into an immensely talented team and despite winning a Cup (with a team that went to the finals the year before) hasn't seen a whole lot of playoff success. They've gone out in the first round in 2 for the past three seasons. He was thoroughly outcaoached by Laviolette in the first round last year. So, I think the question has to arise: how much did Michel Therrien have to do with the Pens' cup win in 08-09?

Seems like Therrien's defense was still around for Bylsma. Bylsma doesn't seem like he can work a solid defensive aspect of a game.

I think the big problem with the Pens has been their lack of defense and goaltending, far more so than Byslma, although I do believe that Byslma has made some questionable personnel choices, especially in regards to how he's used Iginla.

I mean, their top-6 consists of a washed up Doug Murray and Brooks Orpik, a replacement level player in Eaton, a goon in Engelland, a butter ball in Niskanen, and a great offensive defenseman in Letang. There is not a single top-4 caliber defensive defenseman there, outside of Letang, and he's being exposed playing with scrubs.

EDIT: Forgot Martin, who is actually a very good player. Kind of soft, though. Their blueline is still probably bottom-10 in the league.

so hes the exact opposite of torts?

I wouldn't use exact opposite. It might be because DB doesn't have quality dmen. But they always look lost as a team on D with the exception of a few. He can put together creative breakouts and offense but the D/Goalie situations are lackluster. But it's a combo of player/coach though.

Bob Mackenzie was just on TSN Drive with Dave Naylor. Mackenzie said Eakins is having a second interview with the Canucks. Also, he added that we will all know a lot more about the Eakins situation by the end of the week. In addition, he reported that Eakins has been offered an associate coaching job with the Oilers.

Looks like it's a "no go" for Eakins here, as he'll be off the market before the Rangers brass has their meetings next month to discuss the future coaching staff.

He's obviously not going to accept the associate coaching job until all head coaching jobs are filled (or it's clear he's not getting them).

I thought their meetings were this month? It seems the Rangers have been pretty quiet. Are we waiting for Tippett, maybe?

also a decent chance Eakins doesn't want the job in Vancouver... Can't forget that possibility

Not a fan of Bylsma, but the Pens took a step back on D when they let Scuderi and Gill go and teams have exploited that in the playoffs.

Bylsma doesn't seem to have control of his team, they were undisciplined against the Flyers last year and were the same through the first 2 games against the Bruins...
