Seems like Therrien's defense was still around for Bylsma. Bylsma doesn't seem like he can work a solid defensive aspect of a game.

QFT. Bylsma did not fully install his defensive "system" in 2009. He had to use some of MTs. Once he started a full season in 2010 it has been his style all the way. Doesn't worry about defending in zone, only cares about stretch passes in transition.

Very stubborn and is constantly out coached due to poor or no adjustments.

If hired you will beg for Torterella and his defensive structure. Jon Gruden won a Super Bowl with Tony Dungys team ala Byslma.

Yeah, frankly, I don't buy that.

What I do buy is that Pittsburgh has below-average personnel on the blueline and an unreliable goaltending situation.

they try to play a mental game, but they play like a bunch of immature kids when they're mad and throw games because they get distracted and focus on cheap shots and getting away with stuff after the whistle. if they actually focused on the hockey they'd be at least even in this series instead of a game from elimination. regardless of how average their defense is(would not call any team on the league with letang on d below-average), they have the skill to win this series. vokuun has been fine too. some of the goals he's not going to be able to stop. not many i'd give him blame for when he has a 3 on 0 or the defense just has no idea what to do/lose control..

MAF though...

they need puck possession in the offensive zone they're not doing that.

Doug Murray is getting his butt handed to him. His type of game is a waste against the Bruins.
Letang has been brutal and lost.

Well, the Penguins are spoiled. They know the NHL puts most of their advertising and name recognition on 87, and just expect everything to go their way.

If Pittsburgh actually had decent coaching and structure, they would be leading this series now.

As for New York, does anyone think the Rangers might just stay in-house? Either promote Sullivan or Gernander? Seems like most of the strong candidates out there are going to be locked up by other teams in the near future, while the Rangers haven't even bothered to start looking (it appears).

Bruins are just much more powerful too. Put the Pens there and almost everyone's lost cause they're being battered around for most of the game.

Dallas is the hot guy right now .. He turned people's careers around in the Ahl and is known as a players coach ..he was my top pick .. Tippett is a d first coach remember that

We're fine with Defense first. It's just not to the point where everyone's dying when it's time to transition.

We need an offensive coach, to complement our defensive-minded core.

Pretty much. What I was getting at was that we can't have a collapse style coach anymore, we need someone who can get a better transition game to result in better offense.

To me, a lot of what you do in the Nzone can determine offensive zone movements.

If Gernander comes up IMo we're worse off.

Why??? Don't understand the Gernander hate on this board. But then again, the same people that hate on him are the ones who are trying to trade half our roster for draft picks.

Explain how Gernader doesn't suck, please.

Everything I read from our AHL people and people who definitely know their ****, suggest Gernader is incompetent.

I wonder how many draft picks we can get for Gernander?

Sure, He contributed to the development of Anisimov, Dubinsky, Callahan, Sauer, as well as other players. He's had a winning record every season and missed the playoffs twice. If you look at his rosters, especially defense, it's quite shocking to see the things he was able to accomplish with the players he had. Hartford was always full of Derek Armstrongs, Brad Smyths, and Todd Halls...hes winning with Yogans, Bourques, Hriviks.

I felt like his coaching style has been a bit hindered by Tortorella. Torts said himself that Gernander has skaters ready that know his system. He's not an incompetent person. He's a leader, he's play offense and defense, and he's been around a few NHL coaches.

I honestly wouldn't put too much stock into what some of the "scouts" on this board say. You can take what i say with a grain of salt, don't care. But I think he would know a little more about the game than someone who streams games over a computer. I would say overall...his job to develop and get kids ready for the NHL game...he's done a pretty good job at it considering some of the teams he's had to work with.

What makes him a terrible coach? His lines? System? Just wondering why everyone else on this board thinks hes bad.

there is an insurance now. if new coach struggles, fans will call for Sather's head for not signing Messier. Hopefully it'll finally be enough to get him out of management/president role.

I never want to trade anyone haha.

But he just is not competent from when AHL guys talk here. That's how it sounds.

I have a feeling we are going to miss out on Eakins. Really annoying. If that happens, I'd really prefer Boucher. Vigneault and Ruff don't do anything for me.

Eakins is the guy we should be going after. We were supposed to interview him, yes? Why haven't we?

If Sather hires Messier...

Pal Al Kreda phoned with an interesting name to toss in the #Rangers next-coaching ring. #AndersHedberg. What do you think of that one?

No. No. No. No.

Haha, I wonder if Hedberg ever has coached a single game. Not to my knowledge.

Speaking of ex-NYR, what about Sarge? Sergei Nemchinov? Isn't he coaching in the KHL?

At this point it seems Theo Fleury is the only ex player not nominated, so for the sake of fairness, I hereby do so.
