The owls are not what they seem.

Nor are Chevy and Maurice. I can picture them out at the cabin delighting in their latest extensions from Chipman.

Not at the time, but in hindsight it would seem Chiarot is worth his contract.

EDIT: Maybe not 3.5, but at 3 million I'd take him.

I thought the rumour was that Chevy offered him 3. Not sure about term. He got 3x3.5 from Mtl so 3 doesn't get it done.

Yes, he was underappreciated here. I'd take him now in a heartbeat. But not for 3.5.

So the Jets held a closed door players only meeting after the Chicago loss.
They should've had it after the Tampa game. Last night was disappointing but they didn't seem outclassed by the Blackhawks. Friday night was an embarrassment.

Thanks for pulling that stat out it certainly sheds some light on where the deficiency lies on this team.
To me this is a damning stat on the job the GM has done.

I don't think it absolves the coach. Roster decisions have been crap all year. The 4th line could have been better out of TC. Poor decisions were made by the coach.

Well, as a fan of this team/franchise for 45 or so years by definition I am emotional. As for your explanation of the "actual NHL" I say balderdash.

The Jets 2 years ago were contenders. They were inarguably a top team in the league with a very young and talented roster and a legit Stanley Cup threat. They should have been a threat for the next several seasons. 1 1/2 years later the threat is gone. I argue no one could have forseen this squad falling / failing so far so fast. Not going to break down all the issues nor causes but this team is no longer a contender. Huge changes need to occur to get back to being one.

You mention the Blues. They have been consistent contenders for several seasons in a row. Last year they went out and acquired OReilly as the missing piece. Team shat the bed for the first 40 or so games. Coaching change and a goalie switch and they win a cup. Know what? They are legit contenders for the cup again and are the best team in the Western Conference.

The Capitals have been contenders for years. Not winning the cup is very different than their window closing. Maybe you did not notice the Caps are the top team in the league?

The Penguins have been contenders for years. Again, winning the cup is very different than their window closing. And when they struggled they made changes. And won. And they are legit contenders again this year. 4th overall and Crosby has missed over 25 games.

'No one could have foreseen' is my point--sometimes a similar roster can have drastically different results, but if a solid foundation is in place a minor move and/or coaching change can be the catalyst for a team to re-emerge.

I don't know what happened last year, but it was dire and the team still needs to come out of it. To pretend that it's all over at this point--because of a dire defence, or bad goaltending, or corsi--is folly.
