Murat sees the same stuff we all do but puts a lot more emphasis on the turnover in the back end. He's also a bit blinded by the in depth answers he gets from the players. Too much stock in their saying it's working as intended.

Over the top negativity only works on the radio for Jim Rome.

I don't expect anything over the top from Murat, nor the too-far-under-the-top he too often gives.

Maybe it's just the break coming, or line changes, but that was a very disorganized effort. Felt like there was no offensive or defensive system, and everyone was lacking vision/chemistry.

At this point we're just stalling and a new coaching staff with fresh ideas is needed. There's a reason why having a coach for this long isn't very common

Can't blame Maurice for everything though. Our bottom 4 D and 4th line are built out of ahl players. Fourth line has scored a combined 15 points this season, which is by far the worst in the league. For reference in 17-18 season they had 44 points at this point.

I heard him today questioning why Bourque would ever play over Harkins.

Oh sure he'll get into that stuff sometimes but it's always about stuff that's on the periphery. If that was the only head scratcher on this team, they wouldn't be in such poor shape right now.

Harkins will get his game though. Parents' trips usually have some lineup turnover so everyone can see their kid at least once.

Thanks for pulling that stat out it certainly sheds some light on where the deficiency lies on this team.
To me this is a damning stat on the job the GM has done.

Not sure I ever remember a players only chat actually changing a teams fortunes.

Typically, they are a harbinger of a major shakeup.

Did they have a players only meeting tonight? If so I hope some players were held to task for shoddy efforts.

We're stuck with a substandard defense and we can't do anything until the Byfuglien situation is resolved.

I don't see how a new coach will help when he has to play Bitteto and Sbisa.

At this point, we should stand pat, take our lumps, and wait for the off-season when Byfuglien's situation should be resolved and more coaching candidates are available.

@Gil Fisher posted there was one, allegedly.

I doubt it was a finger pointing exercise, they usually aren’t. They usually don’t change anything either.

If Chevy does not attempt to fix this now he should be fired too.

Much of this is his doing and fans deserve better.

It is not fun to watch your team die a slow death.
He only had the last 6 months to fix it. Why now.

Murat has some good stuff but I get the impression listening to him on the radio that he's still too much of a wait-and-see guy who has too much respect for the status quo. Maybe he's too polite or something, I don't know, but he stops short too soon too often.
It is amazing that the closer Murat has got to the team e.g. credentials he stops criticizing the coach...

The forwards have full marks for the dismal efforts lately.

They made Chicago look like a cup contender. Beaten in almost every race and battle. Bad passes galore.

Two times against teams in the second half of a back to back. Pathetic.

So we need some capable D men, upgrade the bottom six, get the top six to play D more consistently, and a new coaching staff, that might be next year territory.

If that... getting capable NHL D-men is not easy, other teams have been trying for longer with little success. So unless one or two of the guys in the system really step up to the plate (Samberg, Heinola) then even next year might be too optimistic, although they won't be this bad next season on the backend.

I remember one. Not from the NHL, but Ässät went from second to last (around this time of year too) to win the cup (Armia being one of the core pieces). But yeah, it rarely has any notable effects. In Pori they held that meeting before the morning practice, before the coaches even came. Coach also had his own speech, but when he came and heard what the guys had been talking, he tore his papers. So, they kinda did it together; coaches adjusted the system a bit (and gradually they adjusted it back, piece by piece) and the players committed to the system and played for each other.

So, it has happened, but usually it's just talk.
