Great Post @Arthur Fonzarelli.

I've been wondering for a while if we could have a thread (call it an X's and O's thread), where we could discuss plays in this kind of detail. F1, F2, who's role is to do what, etc. Video and screenshots like this would be excellent.

Oh that would be wonderful guys! I wanna say Kane’s 1000th point came on a terrible breakdown as well.

that's what scares me about roslovic. zero defensive awareness for someone that is going to be a bottom 6 player. and he is much better at a lack of awareness on defence then he is at actually playing defence when he knows what's going on.

Roslovic’s defensive play lately makes Connor look like a Selke candidate. Obviously I’m exaggerating but he’s been clueless and/or has completely tuned out the coaching staff lately.

Every team , sports journalist and fanbase knows our defense is a joke outside of Pionk and Morrissey.

The Buff situation was handled poorly and his communication with Chevy from training camp until now seems non existent.

That doesn't answer my question. It just reiterates your complaint. Yes our D is a joke. What do you think Chevy could have done about it? Who do you think he should have traded and how do you think that would have helped?

How was the Buff situation handled poorly - by Chevy? It was handled poorly by Buff. What was Chevy supposed to do about that?

I do want to see a bit more of Wheeler and Laine together before I consider the move totally silly.

We can expect Kulikov, Beaulieu, Bitetto and Sbisa to be gone next year. I might keep Sbisa for the press box. Maybe.

Replace them with Samberg, Heinola, xxx, yyy. Those last 2 could conceivably also be rookies. Maybe Niku should be one of them. That will be a very inexperienced, mistake prone D corps. I don't think it gets fixed in one year.
If one is Buff and the other is a FA like Martinez, that would be transformational.

Yes, if Maurice does not have a contract for next year then it would be insane to keep him for the rest of this year.

Why does that matter?? This franchise is worth at least 200 million more than what Chipman bought it for. He can eat Maurice contract. It does not effect the cap. So this should have no bearing on a coaching change unless Chipman is cheaper than we all think

How about Buff + Niku? Martinez is bad the last 2-3 years. He'll 33 YO going into next season. I doubt he will have a bounce back at that age. He has another year at 4 mil and LAK probably expect something in return.

OK, sign PoMo to a new 3 year contract and then fire him in January of 2021, 22, or 23. I can take another year or three of this. It costs me nothing.

I don't think Martinez is bad, per se. He's on a bad team, and probably expected to do too much. Niku has shown promise, for sure, but I realistically see his ceiling as a bottom pair guy with PP chops.

The big key for me is Buff. Even 80% Buff is a top 4 defenseman.

Chevy should have moved out a forward like pereault, roslovic or prospect for a decent défenseman.
He basically put a bandaid on a heart problem by adding the bum defensemen he picked up.

Chevy knows more about the buff situation than he lets on.
He would know if buff wants to retire or play again.

To much smoke and mirrors and half ass fixes that are hurting the team.

Well, despite brief flashes of hope mostly brought on by great goaltending, this appears to be what the team is : a bubble team. They can win some games, but never consistently or in a sustainable fashion. Just for the love of God don't trade the 1st again, and maybe try to pick up some later picks at the deadline. It's no shame to have a down year after what happened to the defense. Buff Trouba Myers were no slouches.

Watching the skaters on the ice, we do not appear to be a bubble team. We appear to be a bottom tier team - probably bottom 3 but at least bottom third. Goaltending, primarily other worldly god like goaltending in parts of Oct/Nov, which was obviously unsustainable, is what has disguised this team as a bubble team up until a few weeks ago. But as Helle's play became humanlike again, it was pretty clear that we were in for a significant tumble in the standings.

This is not getting better, it is getting worse. We are a 2 line team with 4 replacement / AHL level D men out of 6. And aside from the roster issues, with the two potent lines that we do have, we play a ton of dump and chase and zone time perimeter offense that relies on perimeter point shots with little to no traffic in front. Our PK is a free fire zone, and our PP with all of the scoring talent that we have, is hyper predictable and the easiest thing to defend against.

How we ended up here, after having a cup contending roster in May of 2018 (less than 2 years ago) is an embarrassment.

How do you know this?

From whence comes this amazing omniscience?

On what hill were you standing when the angel came down and imparted knowledge to you hitherto unknown to the rest of us mortals?

I think we can score our way to being a bubble team, with a top 6 including scheif Connor wheeler Ehlers Laine little. They will have games where 4+ goals go in, and Helle is having an above average season. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Jets make a wildcard. However, it's quite clear the team is worse than last year. How much worse depends on your personal point of view of course.

Without Hellebuyck continuing to far outsave expectations, the Jets are going to fall farther back. The Jets could try and track-meet their way to the playoffs, but Maurice doesn't seem keen on that approach, based on what we've seen and heard from him. Maybe losing Lowry for a month will make him say "f*** it, pin your ears back and go!"

I’ve been a huge fan of Paul Maurice and still am, but now I think it might be time for him to go. Just for the team to wake up. They can play better than this.

Are related to Chevy. Smh

Chevy is just as much to blame as Maurice for this team being in the position they are in.

Fire both of them as far as i am concerned because they are both incompétent.
We are going to miss the playoffs because of their stupidity.

Martinez has been bad for a while. LAK have not been that bad for that long. Niku may settle out on the 3rd pair, but he still has some potential to get higher. Maybe that right side is filled out by Buff plus 1 of Kovacevic or Gawanke. That would be 3 rookie D men though. Not too promising for next year but at least we might be progressing.

Perreault and/or Roslovic were not going to return any D man who would have made a significant difference.

I have no idea what you think Chevy knows about the Buff situation. Whatever he may know doesn't change the fact that he is currently injured and awaiting the decision by an arbitrator. Completely out of Chevy's hands.
