Pack fall 2-1 in OT. They played probably their best game but couldn't cash in on numerous chances.

Gettinger looks good. Brodzinski is Hartford's best forward. The rest is pretty meh right now. Ronning shows flashes still but hasn't done anything yet. Pajuniemi looks like a JAG right now. Sometimes when he's carrying the puck it's like WTF is he trying to do? Jones looks good, Robertson is looking better. Schneider is doing his thing but isn't terribly involved, at least when I'm watching.

Labrie is terrible. I know why he's here but he's terrible.

Labrie had an assist and 3 shots and wasn’t on for a goal scored against. What made him terrible in tonight’s game?

Wow he got an assist on that? I didn't even realize he was on the ice. There was no replay on my feed so I have no idea what he did to earn one. Good for him, I guess.

He handles the puck like a hand grenade. There were at least two instances I can recall where he was skating with the puck and it just came flying off his stick. One IIRC he was stationary waiting to enter the zone. He doesn't really show any hockey sense whatsoever. He's just a guy out on the ice. I haven't noticed a ton of physicality from him and he hasn't fought, which are the two things he's really here for.

EDIT: I watched the goal again, he had more of a role than I realized. He was facing the blue line and Reunanen's shot hit him. He slid it over to the wide-open Greco standing in the slot. So okay, that was something I guess. The feed I watched sucked, I thought Reunanen's shot was just blocked directly to Greco.

On AHL tv do you get the On-Demand games for free?

I haven’t paid for a subscription but am able to watch the 3 past games on demand.

Or is it just for the trial period which I thought ended last week
Just downloaded the Roku app. They charging $22.95 a month.
That seems steep.

Hartford dominated Lehigh Valley and won 3-1. Ronning, Brodzinski, Bitetto ENG. Huska with the W.

Near the end Bitetto hit a LHV player up high. Looked like an elbow straight into the face. I only saw one replay but it looked really ugly. He only got 2 minutes, the guy he hit, Saulnier, looked done laying on the ice at first. One of those things where a guy's brain is scrambled and he's trying to get up.

Pack killed the penalty and LHV had an empty net. Bitetto came out of the box and scored the goal and as he was skating back to the bench for fist bumps the LHV player Garrett Wilson came flying over a pounded him. Kind of an unusual sight.

Good win for Hartford, though I have to say I hope Bitetto is punished.

I was shocked Bitetto only got 2. Thought it was at least a double minor.

They played a very strong team game.

I want to see more flashes from the D. It's apparent that the young guys are still getting comfortable. Reunanen's skating and skill is apparent at this level and he's right now their most effective offensive D. Jones makes smart little plays, but he's not having any of those big show off moments. He is successful at playing a smart, simple game. I feel like that can be said of all three young D prospects.

Forwards... with Barron up and Kravy AWOL, the forwards that are making the biggest impact are the AHL vets like Greco and Brodzinski. Ronning and Fritz aint bad as a pair either (though a bit small). Paju is getting outmuscled a bit and he's going to need to get stronger and faster to play his game in NA. He's just not getting his shot ops other than on the PP. Gettinger is still one player I have hope for. His size, decent skating and physical simple game is effective. I wish he had a bit better hands.

Gettinger I still like. He's not going to make it here with our depth but I like him. The game yesterday, to start OT, he just took the puck and blew by the Penguins skaters on the outside and had that wonderful chance. It was totally out of nowhere and I think he surprised everyone with his wheels.

He's a good depth piece. In some ways, he might be more ready than Barron for a 4th line role. These bigger guys sometimes take longer to develop because they have to change their mindset in a few different ways. They have to learn to play more physical, more defensive minded but most importantly, they have to think faster with zero hesitation. You can't be effective at their footspeed if you're not very decisive, very quickly and right, more often than not. I feel like that's the one thing that's gotten better and better every year for Getts. He's gotten quicker with his decisions. And it's a shame if he doesn't get a shot to play a few years in the NHL at some point as a bottom 6 forward with PK skills. He's so close.

In other news the Rangers should do something about Tyler Wall. Through five games he hasn't played. Clearly they are keeping Kinkaid warm if needed for the NHL club, and Huska is apparently the clear #2 at the moment. Even if you get Wall into one of the games this weekend, that's one game of eight. He should be playing more than that.

Everyone on this board has been critical of the lack of development of prospects in Hartford.

There was an interesting tidbit on Friday's 32 Thoughts podcast. At the 51 minute mark Jeff Marek starts talking about the Kraztsov situation and says matter of factly that Kravtsov is only the latest prospect that wanted out of Hartford and he names Sean Day, Ty Ronning, Brandon Halverson and Ryan Gropp as being in that group. He could have included Lias Anderson. And Marek made the comment that Chris Drury was the Hartford GM and he refused to trade these guys suggesting that Kravtsov could be waiting a long time. Ultimately Drury did cut Sean Day loose and he quickly was signed by Tampa Bay. I'm not arguing that these guys would have made it to the NHL in other organizations but it's disappointing that the scouting staff thinks enough of these guys to draft them and give them a shot and all stagnated or regressed except for Ronning who finally got a chance in year 3 last year. And even Ronning sat out five of the first seven games last year before he finally got a full chance.

It is unfortunate, but with the guys in that "tier" or ability, I'm not sure how uncommon it is. Gropp in particular, he had 2+ years where they really did give him legitimate chance, good minutes, PP time, all that. Halverson, even--we know it's tough for goalies like how I mentioned Wall is getting squeezed, there are really only two spots. Halverson unfortunately had to contend with guys like Hellberg, Mazanec, Georgiev, etc. He had real competition from more established guys and honestly never played well. Just mediocre all the time, even bad. The same can be said for Day, really. Outside of some sporadic flashes, he never really looked particularly noteworthy in the AHL. He looked kind of like an AHL/ECHL tweener, and that's how he was deployed.

We've had lots of guys over the years where we've acquiesced, either to trading them or terminating their contracts. Just in Drury's time, we released Pedrie at his request, Meskanen, Stromwall...I'm sure there are others that I can't recall. Day was obviously one that was eventually moved out. I've never got the sense that we've held guys hostage down there. To the contrary, it seems like we've generally been pretty accommodating, going back several years. We've also loaned a few guys to other organizations.

From a couple guys I know/knew that played briefly in the ECHL, apparently it's fairly common down there for guys to ask to be moved elsewhere, where they think they'll have a better chance or at least play more. I suspect that's no different in the AHL, especially for the likes of the guys Marek mentioned who are kind of flailing around and maybe sensing that their one shot at making it is about to slip away.

If there's an issue I would say it has been with player development, though even there I'm not sure it's as serious as it's made out to be.

Some may have seen that "John Doe" is Kyle Beach.
His brief time w Pack was his first NA pro hockey time post-Blackhawks.
7 ECHL games, a couple years later, completed his career in NA

Savannah announced their ECHL team yesterday, the Ghost Pirates. They're going to be owned by the same group that owns Jacksonville. Since the Rangers only have a 1-year deal with Jacksonville, it would be awesome if they inked a longer-term deal with Savannah. Brand new building opens in January very close to the riverfront historic district. Would be a really fun place to see a game.

If the Savannah team doesn’t end up being a Rangers affiliate, it will most like be the Bruins.

It’s a really nice venue, but it’s not exactly in the safest part of town. Either way, it would be nice to have them close by.

... Since the Rangers only have a 1-year deal with Jacksonville, ...

last summer, when Maine dumped NYR for Bruins, and NYR affiliated w Jacksonville,
there were postings, perhaps even earlier in this thread (or part XIV) that it was a "multi-year" deal,
and a related post with a grid showing all NHL affiliates which also called out more than 1 year

I don't have a solid source to site, that's just what I recall from summer ...
so your statement may be correct

Bruins just made the effort to make nearby (to Providence, too) Maine their AA affiliate, not sure they'd reverse course so quickly.

IMHO NYR should also try to align w closer ECHL team, make it easier to move guys to/from Hartford as needed, or for observation/instruction

I don’t disagree. That’s just who I was told is currently in discussion for the Savannah team.
