Clearly no goals on 45 shots is a small sample abnormally for most players. In Othman’s case it probably represents 4-5 goals against expected. He’ll be fine.
Just to clarify, Othmann has two goals, both on the power play, no goals at even strength. According to the AHL website his shooting percentage is 4% so we would expect that to improve. In the games I've watched he's had some moments and is doing fine as a rookie but he's certainly not dominating. He's also being given first line minutes with Brodzinski and Belzille and first team PP so you would hope for more production. There were some people calling for him to be brought up with Wheeler and Kakko not scoring but I think that would be a mistake. He needs time in the AHL. He'll make it eventually.

Yeah, I should’ve inserted ES somewhere in my post though I thought it was relatively obvious from a couple of posts above mine.

Re call-up, I agree that there’s no urgent need to start pulling Othmann out of his environment. Who knows if anything changes come February or March but probably not and Othmann is better served just staying the path.

These stats have me wondering if Othmann isn't close to what some have been saying he will become. Six weeks on the #1 line with zero even-strength goals for a guy with a supposedly lethal shot?

He isn't close to being a finished product. The goals will come, but he needs to learn to how best to use his shot. He needs to find other ways to score besides just relying on his shot.

Othmann has 2 goals and 9 points in his first 15 games.

Last year, Cuylle only had 2 goals and 5 points in his first 13 games. He finished the year with 25 goals and 45 points in 69 games. He got better as the season went on.

Let's see where Othmann is 40 games from now.

The Rangers are using the old Detroit method of developing players, finally, by putting them in Hartford and letting them play big minutes. Othmann should stay the whole season. It worked for Cuylle and it will work for others. This isn't your grandad's AHL anymore. It's a good league.

Only the top prospects in the world take the elevator to the NHL. Everyone else needs to use the stairs.

An under-the-radar forward prospect to keep in mind is Edström, who's played well enough to earn a top-six opportunity.

The 2019 sixth-round pick stands at a hulking 6-foot-8, 225 pounds and has some sneaky skill to go with that big frame. He's tied for second on the team with five goals, moves well for his size and has shown he's capable of thundering hits. One scout lobbied for him to crack our annual top-10 organizational prospect rankingsand believes he has a real chance to eventually crack the Rangers' fourth line.
With all the injuries to the D corps, Hartford has been leaning on prospects Matthew Robertson and Brandon Scanlin, who are both now in their third AHL seasons.

"Those are guys that we really rely on every night," Smith said. "They’re playing penalty kill top unit, they’re on power-play units, they’re playing 20-plus minutes a night, and they’re playing quality hockey. I feel like they’ve settled into their roles here and feel comfortable with what we’re doing."

these posts crack me up
first 6 weeks as a pro, age 20
fans are in a hurry, with expectations which are not realistic
player development is not a straight line, and the lulls contribute to the players they become

do yourself a favor, forget he's there for a few months, then check back in
and even then, his rookie pro year stats ain't necessarily meaningful

and maybe don't give too much credence to what you read here
("what some have been saying he will become")
those projections are based on the same kind of premature, small sample sizes as your post ...

Pack win 6-4

Goal Recap

1st Period:

Providence 1st: Berard carrying the puck out of the defensive zone turns it over. Providence comes back in. Scanlin ties up his man. I think Brodzinski gets to the puck behind the goal but Providence steals his attempted to pass to Hallowell who is behind the net leaving a Providence player all alone in front.

Hartford 1st: Just before the play leading to the goal Edstrom makes a nice move to break in alone but he is stopped. With a few second left Henriksson brings the puck into the O zone. Sykora picks it up and gets it to Hallowell who makes a great pass to an open Henriksson who is able to tap it in. Hallowell makes the play.

2nd Period

Hartford 2nd: Othmann makes neutral zone pass to Brodzinski who carries it down the left boards. He passes to Belzile behind the net and Belize fools Providence by looking like he is going to keep carrying the puck behind the net but instead passes back to Brodzinski who comes in alone and snaps it home. Very nice play by Belzile.

Providence 2nd: On a defensive zone face off Broullaird clearing attempt is stopped by the Providence defenseman and the puck bounces to Robertson who fails to get the puck out and now is out of position leading to a 2-1 down low with Providence scoring. Not great puck handling by our two defensemen.

Providence 3rd: Providence gets a seeing eye shot from the point. Robertson has his man, Broullaird does not but there is a third Providence player in front. Looks like Korczak should have had him. Garard probably doesn't see the puck.

Providence 4th: Edstrom fails to clear the puck out of the defensive zone. Providence gets the puck to the right wing where Robertson picks him up. The player throws it at the goal where another Providence player takes a sharp angle shot that Garand stops but a Providence forward picks up the rebound with the two defensemen not in position and Edstrom fails to cover the open winger. that's the third straight goal with Robertson and Broulliard on defense and two bad plays by Edstrom. I like Edstrom a lot but he did a poor job on the shift.

3rd period:

Hartford 3rd: On a 5-4 power play that looks terrible, Broulliard picks up the puck and stick handles through the defense and draws a penalty. Coach Smith call s time out to get his first PP unit some time to get back on the ice. The time out pays off with Belzile gathering the puck on the wing, swinging back to the center of the ice and shooting it home with Brodzinski providing a screen and Hallowell breaking down the wing and possibly distracting the goalie. this brings the Pack back into the game.

Hartford 4th: At the end of a too many men ion the ice penalty with Othmann serving it Brodzinski gets the puck as the penalty ends and gets it to Othmann who breaks in behind the defense and is able to go five hole to tie the game. Othmann's first even strength goal and a beauty. Perhaps that gets hiim going.

Hartford 5th: On the PP with less than a minute left in the game the Pack win the face off and get the puck back to Hallowell who shoots and the rebound goes to a wide open Belzile who puts it home for the game winner.

Hartford 6th: Edstrom with an empty netter from the defensive zone.

Brodzinski and Belzile are carrying the team. Contributions from others but those two have been excellent. For I believe the first time this year Scanlin moved to the left side playing with Hallowell. They were solid. Robertson played with Broulliard. That didn't go so well. Berzolla and Cairns were the third pair and they did not give up any goals. Belzile, Othmann and Brodzinski are your three stars in the that order. Pack outshoot Providence 35-28.

Hartford 4th:

Edstrom has six goals already. Impressive. Has he gotten lucky or is he consistently in the mix?

I think at least 2 of those goals are empty netters, but Edstrom is a good player. He skates well and has some offensive skill. He can also lay the body and fight. He could be a very good 4th liner.

I'd love to see him get a call up some time this year, just to see how he looks in a real NHL game. Pitlick and Bonino are both UFAs this summer, and Goodrow could get bought out or traded. There should be a spot for Edstrom next year if he seizes it.
