I didn't watch the game live but saw the goals. The defense was poor on the five Syracuse goals. I thought Matt Robertson, in particular, who was -4, was chasing the puck and often out of position. Robertson had been playing with Scanlin but they split the two up and it didn't go well for Matt. I'm becoming skeptical that he will make it to the NHL. Scanlin reminds me of Ryan Graves. Trivigno scratched again.

If the Rangers need to call up a forward I think Brodzinski or Belzille would be the candidates. I like Othmann, Berard and Edstrom but they're not ready at this time and need to play more AHL games.
I agree with your player assessments. Rempe had a good shift on the Blidh goal that counted but then had some missteps in the third, one of which led to a goal.

5-2 win for the Pack tonight.

Are you worried that calling up our prospects would ruin them or do you think they'll play worse than the scrubs that we know already suck?

And the two goals were power plays. No even strength goals so far.

He'll fit right in.

Will either Berard or Othmann get called up this year?
I haven't watched, really never do, but I would prefer if they didn't for this year. Let these dudes marinate a little. As others have said Brodz or Belzile are more than competent AAAA guys that fill in for a few games.

I think we're seeing the benefits to marination with Cuylle. Sure he had a taste last year but he played the majority in Hartford and has fit in seamlessly with the boys.

I don't expect either to get more than a cup of coffee this year, similar to what Cuylle got last year. And there are some vets who deserve a call up, should the need arise. Belzile and Nash have both been good, and Brodzinski will probably be the guy (again) if we need a center.

I thought Belzile would start in NY. I expect he's probably the first guy behind Brodz. Othmann isn't ready and while Berard is closer I think he'd benefit from playing a full pro schedule. Let him hit the wall and battle through it down there.
isnt he also a bit light at 165 ?

I don't know what his actual current weight is but that's probably about right. I think another full off-season of training will help him but in reality I just don't think he's going to put on much more weight. Which is cool, plenty of guys like DeBrincat, Gaudreau, Spurgeon, Gourde, etc. can play in that height and weight range.

Othmann and Berard are 1st and 2nd on the team in SOG with 46 and 45 respectively - to me that's a good sign that even if the points aren't necessarily there they are driving offense.
Berard has picked it up a little lately. He had a 9 SOG game the other day so his total is a little skewed. Othmann has been really consistent, thought. I think as he continues to adjust to the pace of the game he'll find himself in even better spots and some of those shots will start going in.

Berard, Edstrom, Othmann have all been very very good so far this year. I think Sykora's done well too and Rempe's intriguing. Garand's been really good. Robertson up and down but I still think he's a good defense prospect. There's been years when Hartford's only had one or two worthwhile prospects. This year there are a bunch. Also though Brodzinski and Belzile are good call up fits for certain situational issues that might pop up and Brodzinski is trusted. He's also the leader of the Pack and not just on the scoresheet. He does everything for them---power play, penalty kill, when a big play or a goal is needed he's the most likely on the team to provide it.

All of these guys to make it are going to have to break in on the bottom lines.

That's fine. They can break in on bottom lines and get PK/PP time + protect the lead to get extra minutes.

If someone like Gustafson is getting a raise/extension, they need some ELC guys to even it out.

It’s kind of insane that Othmann hasn’t scored a goal since the first game of the season. 14 game goal-less drought, 45 shots.
He's getting assists and contributing in other ways. If he finishes the year with "reverse Cy Young/Anthony Young (RIP)" stats (aka inverse Pirri), it's fine.

To anyone who watched the game last night, what was up with Edstrom getting a 10-minute misconduct for abusing the official? Hopefully he didn't get physical and just yelled a bunch of expletives in Swedish.

It's not uncommon for forwards to start their first AHL season slowly, then pick it up as the season progresses. That'll be the hope for Othmann

If Berard can keep this going for a few more months they should consider giving him a bit of run with the big club.

He's got a bit of that dog in his game that I feel this team still lacks a bit but has some actual offensive skills.

Clearly no goals on 45 shots is a small sample abnormally for most players. In Othman’s case it probably represents 4-5 goals against expected. He’ll be fine.
