Would John Hynes be a candidate for the Hartford job? He was a head coach in the AHL prior to becoming the Devils head coach.

Many years ago, the Rangers offered the Hartford coaching job to Marty St. Louis. He had no prior head coaching experience. Gorton eventually hired MSL in Montreal.

Is there a former player interested in coaching?

It would be hard to hire someone from another organization unless that individual is in a player development or scouting role with another team.

Maybe Adam McQuaid. He played for the Rangers when Drury was AGM. McQuaid is in player development with the Bruins.

Ryan Martin came from the Red Wings organization. Is there anyone from there? John Lilley came from the Maple Leafs organization.

Greg Moore. Played for the Wolf Pack. He was a head coach of the Toronto Marlies. Lilley was there. Moore was hired by Hockey USA to replace Muse. New England hockey.

just saw this at AHL transactions from last week
2023-11-06 Drew Worrad (C) Hartford DEL Released from SPC

very odd that 2 guys who signed same day chose not to stay
(d-man Barton was released in Oct and signed in Europe in Nov)

and tho Barton may not have wanted to be in ECHL, he might not have been there long,
given injuries to Fox\Lindgren, Mackey recall, and injuries to Harpur\Hollowell

Imagine if the Rangers had young close to ready NHL defensive depth. That's their fault for not adding young defensive depth to the organization

Man you love to throw stones at the FO
They have Jones, Hollowell, Robertson, Scanlin
despite graduating Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Schneider,
unexpectedly losing Emberson, and trading Nils a year ago.
I'd guess that almost every team in NHL would take that as the status of their D pipeline

I meant young defensive depth with NHL potential., i doubt Robertson or Scanlin will be NHL players sadly, they both would have gotten a game by now if that was the case.. They played Harpur over both of them last year. That says a lot. Other teams can fill in with young players with potential and not some NHL fringe depth vet. Rangers also called up Mackey although did not play yet. They dont have a Schneider type on the LD , meaning a LD that is NHL ready. That is pretty much the front office fault for not drafting those and developing those. Jones gets hurt while Lindgren is out. Not much depth at all. No potential future NHL dman that can grow with the team down the road. Hollowell is another Jones, not good defensively and small.

There are only so many draft picks, especially when you trade some away. If they had drafted more LD, you would complain they didn't draft some other position.

Them playing Harpur last season over Robertson doesn't mean anything about Robertson. The kid is still developing and the previous coach was a dope who preferred the big immobile dman over a lot of kids. They played Harp over Jones, Emberson, Robertson. Jones is showing already he's better than Harpur, and he's a year older than Robertson. Maybe take a breather and let the kids develop. NYR have depth and if he keeps progressing he might be a 6ld, it's not like he's Hajek (who also played more NHL games than prospects who could be better than him) lol.

I just don’t get what the Rangers watch when they trade for or draft players. Okay he broke out during a 2 week tournament and had a good playoff but was a non factor before that. Yea let’s trade for him or draft him 9th overall. Hajek is awful. At least Howden has a cup now and is an NHL player, and yes I do feel the Rangers rushed him because of the trade of McDonagh. If he had spent time in the minors, he’d be on the Rangers 4th line right now more than likely. I don’t understand what they saw in Namestikov. He was awful here.

we just see things differently

i read some of those comments and they don't mesh with what i've learned watching NHL hockey closely for a zillion years

disagree totally with both of these

I am so confused by this statement. Who did they draft 9th overall? Kravstov who wasn't mentioned at all? The draft is a crapshoot, look at highly touted players like Yakupov, Alex Nylander, Hayden Fleury. Top picks bust, NYR euro scouts at the time (who thankfully isn't with the team any more) loved the potential of KRav. The skill was there, but the will to stick it out wasn't. IIRC Hajek, had a really good junior career and a good wjc. Again someone people thought had potential and was a 2nd round pick by a team everyone thinks are the best at drafting. These are kids with potential, nothing is a guarantee. As for Names, IIRC he was playing really well in TB at the time but was just miserable being traded and did not like being in NY. It's not like Gorton could speak to the player and be like how do you feel about it before we trade you, they had no idea how he would react here.

Edstom with a tip-in in front of the net. Wolf Pack win 5-1!
ThreeStars:
Adam Sykora 1st Star
Belzile 2nd Star
Brodzinski 3rd Star

I hope someone puts up Sykora working the crowd celebrating his 1st star of the game. Very Entertaining! Might have been mimicking the Wolf Pack Mascot.
Adam Sykora has a very infectious good vibe. All smiles.

loved the contributions from throughout the lineup

Sykora 1st goal of season
Brouillard 2nd G (plus an A)
Elson first 2 A's this season (scratched often)
Mackey 2nd and 3rd A's of season
Rempe 1st A of season
Robertson 2nd A of season

I get that a lot of people don't like Harpur but he's been a pro for a long time with NHL experience and that does count for something. He has pretty clear limitations but he pretty much plays within those limitations which is a way of saying he's a mature player who recognizes his strengths and weaknesses even if the weaknesses seem more apparent to posters here. He isn't like most prospects though such as Robertson or Scanlin who are still working at finding their games. NHL coaches (and last year when Harpur was getting his time with us it was Gallant) invariably go with a player that they have more knowledge on than one they don't and that's where having NHL experience comes in pretty handy. Throwing in a raw rookie is kind of like throwing shit at a wall and you get what you get. It could be good and it could be not. Keep in mind also Robertson wasn't that great in preseason and Scanlin didn't play any preseason games.

Rangers had no issue throwing in Schneider. Rangers need LD depth, after Jones, not much there. Need a Schneider young close to ready NHL on the left side which they don’t have especially when Lindgren gets hurt. Luckily Rangers have not had much injuries to their left defense besides Lindgren.
