Tonight’s game is out of control. Wolf Pack up 3-0 over Springfield.
Goals so far: Pajuniemi, Jones and Pajuniemi again.
Officiating staff has lost control of the game.
Penalties on almost every play some called some not. Late hits.Scrums after whistles.
Hillman just scored to make it 4-0 and another scrum after the goal.
Blidh to the locker room after blocking a shot. End of the 2nd.

This is the play-in round. Best of 3. Next game is in Hartford.

Next 2 rounds are best of 5, then 2 rounds of best of 7.
There is a play in round? Learn something new everyday!

And nice to see them playing Sykora and Edstorm. Thought they werent going to see any time in the playoffs. Guess they have impressed the coaches.

Garand has given up 6 goals in his last 4 games, with save percentages of .971, .921, .952 and .960 tonight.

Before that, he had a stretch of 3 games where his save percentage was under .900, but in his last 11 games, those are the only games where he was below .900. Over that 11 game stretch, he allowed 25 goals and had a .913 save percentage.

I think this playoff run will be really good for him. Hopefully he can take another step next year and be the Pack #1 goalie.

The play-in is new because of the unbalanced divisions.

Sykora and Edstrom are playing because Brodz and Lesch are up with the Rangers.

A totally dominant effort by the Pack. Outshot Springfield 35-26.

In the second with the Pack having a 1-0 lead, Jones gets a jack in the box goal from a Lockwood pass. Then Pajuniemi gets a jack in the box goal from a Blidh pass. I'm not sure I've ever see two of those goals back to back. With the clock winding down Trivigno makes a great pass to Hillman who puts it home. 4-0 after 2.

In the third Cuylle makes a great pass to Carpenter who makes it 5-0. Springfield finally scores on a PP, the first PP goal the Pack have given up in the last 30 attempts. Emberson with an empty netter to make the final score 6-1.

Stars: 1. Pajumiemi with 2 goals, 2. Fritz with 3 assists, 3. Garand with a strong game in net.

The Pack now go home Friday with a chance to move on to the next round.

Lehigh Valley, the sixth seed, beat Charlotte last night to take a 1-0 lead. The next games are tomorrow night and Friday night if necessary.

A really shocking performance by the Pack. Everyone contributed even if they didn't hit the scoresheet. The kids played very well and looked like they belonged.

As to Pajuniemi, he's an RFA. I would think the Rangers qualify him even if he wants to go to Europe. The Rangers are going to need cheap right wingers next year after Tarasenko and Kane leave.

Seems Pack are dressing just about their best available lineup this way

The Fs sitting, lately,
behind Sykora/Edstrom,
have been:
Rempe, Lohin(AHL,)
Berard/BMB.

Smith/Khodorenko (both injured, season over)

Jonny B, Lesch w NYR

These Fs, all AHL contracts who've been on Pack roster, are currently w Jax: DiGiacinto, Tardif, Easton Brodzinski

Whelan, Reuschhoff were traded away around trade-deadlines

What are Emberson's chances at a NHL career? He has been a solid contributor for the Pack this year and at 22 years old, it seems like it's sooner rather than later that he should see some time.

I have similar sentiments about Scanlin who is 23

In last night's Kings/Oil game, the opening goal was scored by Derek Ryan.
He has now played 500 NHL regular season games.
He played his first NHL game a few months before his 30th birthday.

Everyone's path varies, but there are 3 common paths.
And following prospects, we often really just focus on two.
Prodigies who make it as NHL regulars within D+2/D+3
Guys who develop on a straight line path and become NHL regulars by their mid-20's

but also ... guys who put in the years and the work, with no guarantees and little fanfare, who earn an NHL role eventually.
I appreciate your comments re their ages, but some guys get there later

Emberson is just finishing his 2nd pro season.
As a RHD, he will always find interest while he has game.
NYR are deep on RD w 8, 23 and 4, but, since Camp, have shed Nils, Skinner and Welinski.
NYR have been relatively very healthy recent seasons, with respect to man-games-lost-to-injury.
I won't be surprised if Emberson gets some NHL ice next season.

Similar expectation for Scanlin.

There is a better opportunity than ever for lesser-paid guys, given these seasons of flat Cap

I am once again asking for Pajuniemi to get an NHL chance next season. He has tools.
He reminds me a bit of Ryan Gropp on the other side. Definitely some NHL-caliber tools, but I'm not sure if the total package is enough to make it in the NHL. It would have been nice to see, although also worth noting that when we had more of a potential need for him (pre-Tarasenko and Kane), he wasn't really doing very much in Hartford--of his 38 points, 16 came in his final 19 games.

I think Emberson definitely has some sort of an NHL future in front of him, and if we had more opportunity, he'd have a chance as soon as next season. That right side is pretty locked down though. I like him a lot, just hard to see him making it here (although in a tight cap world you never know what can happen).

Last night Charlotte beat Lehigh Valley at the end of the second overtime to tie the series. The deciding game is tonight.

The AHL reseeds after the play in round. Providence is the first seed and Hershey is the second seed.

If Charlotte wins tonight, it is the third seed and plays Hershey with the winner of the Pack -- Springfield series being the fourth seed and playing Providence.

If Lehigh Valley wins the Pack - Springfield winner is seeded third and plays Hershey with Lehigh Valley playing Providence.

If Springfield beats the Pack tonight the deciding game is tomorrow night.

Pajumniemi improved from last year to this. Among our forwards I'd rank him behind Will Cuylle for sure. There's also Brennan Othmann who will turn pro next year. I think also we have better options for 4th liners such as Adam Edstrom.

But.....I think if he shows at camp Paju will be in the mix of maybe a half dozen guys going for a couple spots. He's going to have to earn it at camp like anyone else and I don't see the Rangers breaking in more than three rookies and it might be less than that. The other thing is a rookie makes the team then he has to play well enough like he belongs.

The rumors are that he's headed to the SHL so he may not be here for camp.
