I haven't even attempted skating yet. I have a plate, 6 screws and a pin in place. I hope to get my skating legs back eventually.

:help:

So sorry to see that. Hope the recovery was/is well!! I liked the post because I feel your pain man. I don't like that it happened to you.

I don't have a picture to share, but everything that happened to me was on the fibula. A clean break and a torn ligament and I was out for 4-5 months healing before walking. It's been a little over a year now since, but I tried skating once and it didn't feel right with the boot of the skate on. Thankful that I can walk normally again, just got to work hard getting back on the ice. I have to take the pain or potential pain out of my mind and know that I can't "rebreak" anything.

Thanks, brother! And I wish you a quick recovery as well.

A lot of it is a mindset. Got wife and two kids and felt responsible to do everything in my power to stop being a burden. I didn’t dwell on why it happened to me and how bad it was. Instead I was just looking forward for what I needed to do next to get better, literally step-by-step. Got to push your pain limits (smartly), and so getting support from people that surround you goes a long way there.

P.S. The before pictures are way worse. Lol

Appreciate the advice, man, and thank you!! I bet, the X-Ray made me cringe, lolol.

The Mariners re-acquired two rookies from last year's squad to make up for the callus to the Pack.

Dwyer Schantz was last year's Most Improved Player, after scoring nearly all of his 9 goals and 7 assists in the second half. He was brought back for a second year, but released just before the season started. The Mariners signed up out of the the SPHL. He's a Cornell grad and former teammate of Morgan Barron

John Furgerle is a dimunitve mobile D out of Quinnipiac. He scored 8G-13A in 51 games in Maine before being traded. He was released by ECHL Kansas City, and the Mariners picked him up.

What has Joey Keane been eating for breakfast since the beginning of the AHL season?

this was mentioned prior to the games against Reading and Adirondack, btw

had posted elsewhere but really belongs here
what was a surprising listing at Cap Friendly is that at season's end ORegan and DiGiuseppe are listed to be RFA's, but it cannot play out that way,
diGiuseppe has lots of NHL games played, while ORegan very few,
if nor re-signed, it seems DOR becomes UFA as over 25 , and needing ~75 NHL reg season games to be RFA, that will not happen ..

O'Regan was a Group VI last year so he's definitely UFA. DiGiuseppe has been an RFA at the expiration of his last three contracts. I think Capfriendly has it wrong.

DiGuiseppe has over 100 NHL games, so can’t be group 6 , O’Regan has 25 games, 4 seasons & will be 26 at the end of the season, so he will be a group 6 UFA.

I feel like there was a degree of sleeping on Keane because he was traded last season and settled into a role with his new team that didn’t necessarily result in eye catching offensive numbers.

But don’t sleep on this kid as a prospect...or a potential trade chip.
Not that I had watched video or followed him completely but everything I saw after we picked him, I absolutely fell in the love the pick. There’s something legit there and he’s really by all means been very good since taken in the third round a couple summers ago.

I do unfortunately see him as a trade chip most likely too. I mean, you never know, maybe salary and positional need elsewhere would see us move guys ahead of him. Perhaps a slew of unfortunate injuries. Not very likely though.

My take on Joey Keane is: The kid has potential to make plays at -- at least -- a high top 3-4 D in the NHL level.

But, the key for any D in the NHL is in reality to be able to make plays at a higher level on not a game by game level, not on a period per period level, not even on a shift per shift level, but like on a play by play level. And this basically applies on a self-preservation level. Even if the NHL is getting a lot "softer", you put your body on the line as a D. People are still on a regular basis taking runs at you. The ice is crappy, but the coach still wants you to find the blades of your teammates in tight quarters. You have to play banged up from time to time. Always get in front of shots that can break any bone in your body more or less. That is really what separates like a Nik Lidström or a Duncan Keith from 20-30 other Ds in the NHL during their prime.

In the end, it just takes something else in terms of being mentally strong.

The marginals are so small nowadays that -- nobody -- gets anywhere on talent alone. We can like crap on a Namestnikov and say that he is a 'dumb' player. In reality its of course a statement with a ton of caveats. He isn't dumb in any way on the ice, but in comparison with the top guys in the world, he doesn't process the game as fast. Its a scale. You will never even get to the AHL if you are a real headcase.

Keane has tendencies to be all or nothing at the young age he is right now. His instincts are good, but the problem is that he tends to loose bearing quite easily. And I also think this has been the case when I've seen him in the AHL this season. I am definitely not saying that he has been a mess or is struggling etc. But the consistency hasn't been there. You never know, but I would be a bit surprised if Keane was called up if we for example had an injury bug at RD.

Bottomline: When I've seen Keane play at the top of his game I would basically on that sample size say that the sky is the limit for the kid. Almost at least. The real -- and big -- challenge he faces is getting his consistency to a level were its like outstandingly good.

If Keane continues to progress nicely and is traded due to depth on the right side, it could potentially open future doors for the Rangers as a shipping point for young d-men, like a Nashville-lite. The prospect depth alone on the back-end could soon transform into a genuine asset for this franchise, on top of young roster players’ progression for the big team.

The Pack are playing tonight also, so we should get a better look at Lias playing more minutes. I really hope Knoblauch can get him to play more assertive on-top-of and with the puck. We've seen him do it throughout his various play in Sweden and in the WJC, so we know he has the ability to be that type of player.

The Wolfpack are playing right now lol. Shesty made an unreal save in the 2nd on a point blank pass. Currently down 2-0 at the end of 2.
