I posted it in the other thread specific to Rykov--Tua Tagovailoa is the Alabama QB qho had a bad high ankle sprain and they put some screws in his ankle and tightened some stuff and he played a couple weeks later. Can't we do that to Rykov? This is crazy.

The loads a skater puts on his fibula(because a high ankle sprain is a dislocation of the fibula by the knee) is different than any runner would face. Every stop, every crossover is stressing it.

You would gave to be so doped up on percocets you’d be in rehab before you would finish your conditioning stint.

You're not wrong, but the strain placed on the entirety of the lower leg with the plants, cuts, spins, and stop these guys make while in a full sprint is enormous. To say nothing of the fact that football players will regularly have 280-pound guys launching themselves at full speed at the areas in question, and holding on, twisting the area (intentionally) as the guy crumples to the ground awkwardly.

A lot of runnings backs and wide receivers suffer injuries to the ankle, some only of mild significance, and never come even close to returning to full productivity. Ankle injuries are devastating in football.

A skater would face more stress shift-to-shift than a QB snap-to-snap, but for a mobile guy like Tua I would argue the maximum stress is more significant.

But again, I don't even really want to pursue this, I was just speaking out of surprise that Rykov is progressing so slowly.

The roster for the Pack is pathetic. I really hope there are at least 7 to 10 of our better prospects that are on that squad next season. Amazing job the head coach is doing with a bunch of nobodies down there.

Yeah other than shesterkin and Huska they aren’t a whole lot of fun to watch anymore now that Chytil is up here.

going to catch up on this game this morning.

Rangers HFBoards on July 2nd every year: The Pack are going to be gnarly this season! So stacked!

Rangers HFBoards on November 1st every year: The Pack stink. They have no depth. Our prospect pool is thin.

LOL but seriously, Chytil and Lindgren graduating, and Kravstov back to Russia that was a lot of substance takne away from the Pack. But graduation is important and Chytil/Lindgren have improved.

The two goalies and Keane are the three players to watch. Ditto for Rykov when he comes back. I still have hopes for Gettinger being a solid 4th liner but it looks like he's going to be a Dane Byers 2.0: A 20G-20A grinder in the AHL who will have a few cups of coffee as injury depth in the NHL.

They really need to send Andersson/Howden/both down. The circumstances are absolutely primed to help them build back up their play and confidence.

By all accounts Day has progressed nicely after turning pro over s year ago. From a stint in the ECHL at this time last year to s first pair D (I think) this season. He might still become an NHLer or at least get his cap of coffee (probably elsewhere given the Rangers prospects depth on defense in front of him) which is still above the expectations curve for a third round draftee.

I've been mostly bullish as far as my expectations for Day. He's done nicely at progressing though. I could see a cup of coffee at some point but I still don't think he becomes an NHL dman.

His offensive upside is limited. He just doesn't have the vision or stick handling skills to be an offensive D in the A or NHL. What he needs to do is take the next step in his overall development as a defenseman to make it beyond the A. And for me, that's all about D zone coverage and developing a mean streak. He has the size to play a more engaged physical game. If he could do that he could be valuable as someone who takes away time and space. But his game feels a bit too passive in that regard or it could also be that he needs to find another level of anticipation required to play that style. We'll see. But to me, it's almost entirely about how he develops in his own zone, in the corners and in front of his own net. If we could combine Day and Geertsen into one player -- that'd be a heck of a player.

I agree with all this but I also have more hopes for Gettinger than maybe you do. For one--I would think by next year he would be ready to replace anything that say McKegg brings right now. I'm not looking for Gettinger to be a big scorer. I'm looking for him to be a 4th line penalty killer with size and reach who once in a while knocks in a goal. He does not have to put up big numbers in Hartford---he needs to specialize his game defensively and it wouldn't hurt if he threw his size around a bit more.

Most AHL teams have 4-5 legitimate prospects and a couple of guys on the edges. The Rangers have done a great job of surrounding their prospects with good minor league players. Teaching a winning culture is an important part of development.

Pack won 5-2 tonight with goals by Raddysh, Lettieri, Fogarty, PDG, and O'Regan. Huska saved 34 out fo 36 shots.
Dammit, damn near the entire team knows they're likely career AHLers... and they f***ing take pride in their play. Kudos to them, and to Knoblauch, who clearly – outside of the Kravtsov situation, which may or may not have been on him – has been doing yeoman's work coaching.

Open up that checkbook, Dolan, and keep paying 'em all.

One of my biggest complaints about Company Man Ken was that far too often, we'd bring in veterans who seemingly coasted through the season. Maybe it was because Ken played so long in the AHL and he treated them differently or something. Who knows. Early returns, this is not a thing with Knoblauch.

Goalies, more often than not, are the difference makers. It could have easily been 5-6 instead of 11 wins. The Pack didn’t have nowhere near this level of goaltending since at least Talbot.

The vets Hartford chose to bring in this year were astute choices--O'Regan, Di Giuseppe and LoVerde might not be NHL level guys but they're all really good AHL guys. LoVerde has been a very important player for excellent AHL teams. He is a steady guy and a good example for young D like Keane or Day to watch. When you have first and second year pros they tend to run around a lot when things aren't going good. Someone who can be calm under pressure helps them be calm. A team full of first and second year pros would get annihilated on a regular basis. Teams that rely too much on ECHL level players get annihilated on a regular basis. To be good an AHL team has to have good vets and beside the three listed above we can probably add Fogarty, Lettieri and Nieves as well....and it doesn't hurt to have someone like Geertsen around either if things get testy.

The Pack are playing well because they're a well rounded team--they defend very well for their level and we have excellent goaltending. So the Pack were able to sustain themselves after the callups of Chytil and Lindgren. We have a good coach and there's a good spirit to the team--they are able to mount late comebacks with regularity so far. We have more prospects that are going through in coming years. Making it a good place to play and develop is key to the Rangers own future success.

I also have a screw near my ankle (along with a titanium rod) for close to 3 years and I consider myself lucky that I’m simply able run and skate for a short awhile even though that area will hurt for up to a couple of days afterwards.

I haven't even attempted skating yet. I have a plate, 6 screws and a pin in place. I hope to get my skating legs back eventually.

:help:

I wish this weren't accurate, but sadly this is the truth.
