His deal was either for two years, or was an ATO last season and an SPC for this season. Either way, he's on the team.

this article implies that it was a 2-year deal, but also that his few weeks with Pack last season, rather than an ATO, may have 'counted' as a contract year

UND's Nick Jones, Hayden Shaw sign pro deals | Grand Forks Herald

Senior center Nick Jones signed a two-year, one-way deal with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL, according to Herald sources. His contract will start immediately. Hartford is the top minor-league affiliate of the New York Rangers

Maine re-signed Francois Brassard. He only played 6 games for them last year but was pretty decent in them.

Murphy worked with Ghost, Sanheim and Provorov with the Flyers. Ekblad in Florida.

The Rangers have so many young D. They need someone to help develop their games.

His son is a pretty good defenseman, too. They're both "leadership" guys. Seems to me like a good hire.

so what's the lineup on paper right now? not familiar with some of the AHL signings. Of course its resumptions but looks like NYR may need to carry 7 D only because of the cap

Zolnierczyk-Fogarty-Lettieri
Gettinger-McKegg-Meskanen
Gropp-O'Regan-Elmer
Newell-Fontaine-Jones

Beleskey, Dmowski, Zerter-Gossage, Leedahl, Ronning also in the picture.

LoVerde-Raddysh
Lindgren-Keane
Reunanen-Day

Crawley in the mix, and possibly some of Rykov, Hajek, and Fox.

Georgiev or Shesterkin
Huska
McCollum

The lines are just guesses. But those names will probably make up the team.

thanks, this is pretty thorough, omits DiGuiseppe and
presumes all of Krav, Kakko, Howden, Lias, and Nieves(waiver risk) ... and Brendan Smith ... are in NY

Right, I forgot about DiGiuseppe. For that post I actually just copied my lines from a post from a couple months ago. I do make a lot of assumptions, including McKegg being down with Beleskey, basically leaving the Rangers with 12F. Other than DiGiuseppe and Smith I think I listed all the guys that could be there. Definitely expecting Kravtsov, Kakko, Howden, and Lias to make it, and Nieves as well unless they're stupid and sign Boyle or whatever.

LoVerde is righty...does he play the left side?

my guess is 1 of hajek or rykov will be on the top pair in hartford...and I think there is a good chance that tarmo goes back to finland for the year

IDK if he plays left. I just had him there because he's a good veteran player, and your three righties (without) Fox are LoVerde, Raddysh, and Keane. I don't think any of the three are third pairing guys. Maybe Keane to start, but who knows. The D pairs are hard to predict given the uncertain nature of how it will work with the Rangers. I think it's easier to guess at the forward group. I would say my forward group plus DiGiuseppe who I forgot and maybe minus McKegg is pretty likely how it ends up.

I hope Reunanen stays here. I'd really he rather work on his game here than go back to Liiga. I know he can get big minutes over there, but I think his minutes can be more valuable here.

trade Day for C, a guy like Adam Ruzicka or Jon Gruden, and keep Tarmo here 8^)
(and btw I am a Day supporter, but adding Hajek, Lindgren, Rykov, Tarmo in 18 months, sets up a 'hockey trade', depth for need)

NOTE - actually only HockeyDB lists Gruden as a C, EliteProspects and CapFriendly have him as LW

I'd rather he stay too but we've got alot of guys...so will he get enough ice time? another year as a top pair guy in liiga won't hurt him if he's not going to get the minutes in hartford

If Reunanen shows he is one of our top 6 D and better than Day or Crawley or even some others I'd rather he play in Hartford. Just saying--this idea of him going back to Finland to make room for some lesser player just because that player has nowhere else to go in the organization than the ECHL is not a good idea. Let the best man win.

Agreed. If he can outplay a Day, then he should stay and season at Hartford.

Chase is more of an ECHL guy. Hope that's where he ends up. I don't want any more veteran signings unless they're of the AAAA-variety.

yeah i'd expect him to start in the ECHL but gives the pack some depth when injuries and callups happen

Nyr2k2’s post about the likely team in Hartford led me to wonder how the Maine Mariners roster fit into this projection. Maine currently has 15 players signed for 2019-2020. A couple of interesting notes about these 15.

11 played NCAA hockey with the other four having played in the QMJHL and/or Canadian university hockey. No players from the OHL or WHL. This seems to be a similar approach to recent Ranger draft picks that have focused on US College and overseas players with few Canadian junior players.

Of the 15, 6 are rookies. It is likely that some or all of these signees will be filling out the Traverse City roster so I’ll provide a brief description of each.

Here’s a breakdown of the roster and how Hartford players could fit into the Maine roster.

Goalie: Maine has only one goalie signed, 25 year old rookie, Francois Brassard. Brassard played in the QMJHL and was drafted in the 6th round by Ottawa in 2012. I don’t believe Ottawa signed him. After playing one year in the SPHL, he went to Carlton College for 3 years and joined Maine last spring at the end of his Canadian college career.

The Rangers currently have only 4 goalies under NHL deals (they normally have at least 5 and had 6 last year) and Tom McCallum signed to an AHL contract. It is likely that Shestorkin/Georgiev start in Hartford with McCallum as the backup with with Adam Huska taking the lead in Maine with Brassard as his backup.

Defense: Maine has 5 defensemen signed with 3 being rookies. The most interesting is 21 year old, Gabriel Sylvestre, who played five years in the QMJHL and was rated 210 by Steve Kournianos for the 2016 draft. He attended the Penguins’ development camp in 2016. He is a big right handed defenseman with limited offensive upside. Richie Boyd is a 24 year old, who played four year at the New Hampshire. He is a big, left handed defenseman with limited offensive potential. The last player is Dallas Rossiter who is 24 and played four years of Canadian University hockey. He is a big right handed defenseman with limited offensive upside.

The Rangers currently have only 13 signed NHL contracts plus Tony D’Angelo and with the possibility that Teamu Reunanen returns to Finland. Normally the team has 16-18 NHL contracts. Hartford has Vincent LoVerde signed. Having 7 defensemen with NYR, the remaining 6 + LoVerde would make up the Hartford defense. If Reuanen makes the Rangers perhaps one of the Hartford bound defensemen makes it to Maine.

Forward: Maine has 9 players signed with two rookies. Nick Master is a 24 year old center who played four years at U Mass Lowell and was a teammate of Ryan Dmowski who is signed by Hartford. Master averaged less than .5 points per game in college but had 7 points in 8 games with Maine at the end of last year. Brett Supinski is a 24 year old center/right wing who played four years at Union. He had a big year his sophomore season scoring 36 points in 37 games on a team with Mike Vecchione and Spencer Foo but he tailed off his next two season scoring 28 and 23 points his final two seasons.

The Rangers have 27 NHL contracts at forward and Brendan Lemieux. Hartford has five forwards signed to contracts, Jones, Dmowski, Zetter-Gossage and veteran Zolnieczyk and Greg Chase. Because of cap reasons the Rangers will only keep 13 forwards sending 15 players to Hartford. Adding the five AHL signings gives Hartford 20 forwards. It is likely that 6 or so are sent to Maine. Dmowski, Zetter-Gossage, Chase and Leedahl seem likely to go with the remaining two spots likely coming from Jones, Newell, Elmer and Ronning.

I would expect a few more signings of defensemen and perhaps one more goalie but I think we have a pretty good idea of what Hartford and Maine will look like this season.
