Pack win 32 seconds into OT. Gilmour from Meskanen. Ville Meskanen has 22 points in 34 games and plays a complete game. I'd like to see him get a look.

Fontaine is improving a lot. I think he has a real shot at the 4C spot next year or even later this year. Real good defensive player and the offense is coming around. He's making quicker decisions.

Day was scratched? He may be ECHL-bound soon again, I guess.

How has Lias looked since being sent down?

Quinn screwed Lafontaine over big time like he's done with Andersson. Lafontaine never got a real shot in camp but the AHL time is good for him. He's the best defensive player on that team by a mile. He also can be a beast on draws. I thought Meskanen looked good in camp. Quinn needs to pay a little more attention to adding gritty defensive players who have an edge to his roster. I've been pro Vesey but at this point I would shop him and Buchnevich and see what the possible return might be.

Gilmour is one of the worst defensive defenseman I've ever seen.

Lafontaine?

There's a point at which decisions have to be made and things become a numbers game. From what I've seen Andersson is at a stage where he's on the cusp but not necessarily among our top 12 forwards so his being in Hartford when the forward group is healthy is not a big deal to me. Lias could use an extra step and especially if he's going to play center.

Fontaine has some good qualities but we're also talking about someone with limited offensive ability and whose upside is 4th line checker. That also groups him with Nieves and Fogarty both of whom have the same upside. Not sure--actually I don't think any of them in our lineup right now makes a whole lot of positive difference.

Meskanen is having a good year. Vesey has made significant improvement this year. He's more involved--better defensively--getting more pucks to the net. Possibly going to hit 20 goals--he's half way there.

Hopefully Zuccarello is dealt soon and Meskanen gets the call to replace him.
Okay plus/minus is what it is (skewed) but when the majority of the team is -5 (some in the plus) but when Zuccha is a -15 and 7 of his last 9 have been a minus game, well that doesnt say alot about his defensive abilities. Teams are taking advantage when he is on the ice. Doesnt bode well for our poor defense as well. Not a good combo.

Meskanen, Fontaine are getting more minutes and putting together decent seasons, keep them there until a real need arises, will only help their transition when they get the call up. Gettinger also had a decent season. Good to see some real depth options down there that could fill the bottom lines in a few years, by then some of the older guys like Fogarty will likely be gone. Also could not agree more, unless Andersson is among top 12 players, then keep him in Hartford getting top minutes, pp and pk.

Who the hell is LaFontaine?

Vince Pedrie was placed on Maine's reserve list, so he's not even on the active roster. Sucks for him, hopefully we can trade him somewhere. I don't see any NHL future for him but I definitely think he could have a decent AHL career if he wanted that.

I'm wondering if he is currently looking for a contract in Europe so the Rangers decided to send him down and not play him until that is reached, at which point they can mutually terminate.

Could be. Also sometimes when the realization is dawning on guys that they probably don't have an NHL future and will be bouncing around the minors, they need some time to figure out what they want to do with themselves.

Or, it could be something benign like a family situation he needed to go home and tend to, or whatever.
