Was surprised to find Wolfpack outside of playoff picture at this point. I've seen reports with them winning a good share of games so I thought they'd be closer to 5-7 spot in the East instead of tied for 11-13. But it looks like a pretty close race and there is more than half a season left to play.

Yeah they've been up-and-down for sure. Seems like they have a good weekend winning all three games then flop the next weekend. They need to have a good month or so and really get back in the picture.

If they want Day to play, I wonder who sits? I would guess Crawley, primarily. They'll rotate but I would assume he and maybe Gilmour since they have 8 D on the roster. Pedrie already sits.

Gropp, you'd think they maybe send Melanson back down or Leedahl back down, or at least sit them.

Why would Gilmour ever sit? He's arguably been Wolf Packs best D-man, i'll hear arguments for Bigras.

He's their best offensive defenseman. I still think he's an abortion defensively. I only suggested him as a possibility since he's really the only non-prospect defenseman in the lineup other than O'Gara and Day shares much more in common with Gilmour than O'Gara. So if they were adamant about giving Day a real look, just spitballing that Gilmour could take a seat and the roles don't have to change much. The only other similar player would be Bigras and I think he's superior overall.

As I said though, what I think is likely is a rotation. Day probably won't even play that much. Looks like tonight, Lindgren and Crawley are the odd men out. Absurd to sit Lindgren if he is in fact a healthy scratch.

Meskanen seems to have picked it up lately.... not doing quite enough to get a call up though imo

When was the last time one of these signings paid of for us? Zucc maybe? I say just leave them in Europe

Why? They're cheap depth who cost us nothing but cash, and could potentially work out like Zuccarello did. Meskanen just turned 23 a couple months ago, he's got plenty of time to build on what he's already done

Yeah we haven't had a lot of success lately. However, I think signing them is a great decision. Taking a flier on a guy like Meskanen is no different than using a fifth round pick on some kid playing in Allsvenskan or wherever--in fact, Meskanen is probably a better move since he's further down the development path. All it costs us is player development time and a contract that's easy to get rid of. The guys leave if they get the sense they won't make it. If we have to sign 10 guys to get one Zuccarello, it's totally worth it.

There are also some guys like Heikkinen, maybe a Zamorsky, that may have made it in some capacity had they decided to stick it out in Hartford for a couple season. I understand why they didn't but I wish they did. Just to see. Heikkinen is a good player, had a nice career in the KHL, SHL and Liiga. He may have been a player here. Anyway, I just see them as lottery tickets. If you hit, f***ing great. If not, the investment was minimal and then you're done with it. And it doesn't cost a pick.

Yup, not having success lately vs not giving it a shot. I mean taken in extreme the ultimate reward could be another Panarin and a risk is a contract that can terminated in a matter of weeks like Bear Gloves or Lindqvist.

Right. There's very little downside, and a ton of potential upside. I feel this way about most UDFA signings, though more so with European players. The "danger" with North American UDFA signings is that they don't normally agree to a mutual contract termination, since they don't have a native country or familiar domestic league to go back to. So, they sit around collecting a paycheck until their ELC expires. The European and Russian guys will agree to terminate and go back home/to their previous league where things are more comfortable and they make more.

Halverson really picking it up lately. Might be a reclamation year for him – especially since goalie is the one position where a) late development and b) significant playing time in the ECHL aren't almost certain career killers.

Hopefully during an intermission they make someone climb up that nose and pick their way to the flag.

Having Double Dare back on Nickelodeon with Liza Koshey as the host and Marc Summers as the announcer/Master Splinter has been one of the true gems of 2018. I really took that show for granted as a kid because it was always on.

HFD tied 1-1 with BRI a bit under halfway through the 3rd.

Goal by Bigras from Fontaine. Andersson with a secondary assist. Bust.

Dafuq going on lately??? Peter Holland 2 games, Cole Schneider 1 game and now Fogarty with 2?

Mind you, when I saw Fogarty's infraction - 100% by accident - my first thought was that the league will surely review that play and it'll cost him 1 game... but 2 is overkill for a player like him with no prior history and is considered a gentlemanly player.

So all 3 mentioned are out tonight vs. Bridgeport lol

Pack win 32 seconds into OT. Gilmour from Meskanen. Ville Meskanen has 22 points in 34 games and plays a complete game. I'd like to see him get a look.

Fontaine is improving a lot. I think he has a real shot at the 4C spot next year or even later this year. Real good defensive player and the offense is coming around. He's making quicker decisions.
