We coulda/shoulda just signed Sam Gagner that offseason for $1M. He went on to score 50 points with CBJ the next year. Too much skill to play on the 4th line though.
No one fits here at all. Big changes have to happen. Weise will play better too but you gotta start somewhere.

They are taking things away but not adding anything that makes us better, so it's still pretty hollow to me.

Call up Myers and NAK and we will talk.
Need to fill the holes with something. Patience!

Fletcher is starting to do the noticeable work by clearing out the replaceables. He'll earn his money when he starts making moves that go beyond the bottom six/bottom two/press box fodder.

Funny thing that sports are instant gratification in real time yet we all have gone back and forth on here about this idea of patience, year after year...

Fletch is fine with carrying 6 dmen and not calling anyone up.

Whose to say he calls anyone up to replace Weise? He might just roll with only 12 forwards too.

He will probably just activate a goalie soon and carry 3.

Anything but calling up Myers and NAK.

Dale Weise, exhibit A of how terribly Hextall managed to fill out the 3rd and 4th lines with the right guys during his tenure as GM.

Well, it's not like he had a lot to work with, VdV, Leier, Cousins, Laughton, and no money. Added PEB for pocket change and Luby for the minimum.
Weise was his one move, and while it failed, it was market rate for a proven veteran.

I hear a deal with Edmonton is coming. TSN told me.

Something like Simmonds for Talbot and Poolparty.

How has nobody started an @broadstreetbull$#*% twitter? He's begging for a parody account. I'm just not funny enough to try.

If you don't have talent to move in, you just replace one scrub with another scrub, something we've seen for six years.
This is what happens when you strip the talent pipeline for a decade.
Which is why it would be crazy to trade a bunch of prospects and draft picks and return to the bad old days.
Because prospects aren't sure things for the most part, you need "safety in numbers" and a steady supply.
When you trade them, it should be strategically, not to "win now."
Weise is under contract for another year so if someone claims him the Flyers are off the hook for next season. If him being gone opens up a spot for someone like Frost then it's not a scrub for scrub move. Either way, is there a downside to waiving Weise or are you just being a contrarian to sound like an outside the box thinker?

I also have no idea what made you go off on a tangent about trading prospects and "win now" moves in a thread about waiving a 30 year old 4th liner.

I really don't get it. It's super frustrating.

Weise is not getting claimed.

He'll probably end up playing more games for the Flyers this season if anything.

For those asking why Weise was waived but not Lehtera... they're trying to bait somebody into claiming Weise so they can get his contract off the books for next year. Clearly the trade market was pretty stagnant, but they're hoping that somebody will pick him up for free. Now, will it happen? It's possible but probably a bit unlikely.

They realistically don't care about Lehtera at this point, since nobody will claim him, his contract is up after the year and we're not buying at the deadline, so cap space isn't necessary. They could waive him but then you're calling somebody up to sit on the roster as an extra skater, once we've called somebody up to replace Weise. They can keep Lehtera as their 13th and call somebody up due to legitimate injury or stick him in as needed for a game here or there.

As far as MacDonald goes, he has no shot of being claimed and they don't want to make it look like they're dropping all of their dead weight at once in a dumpster sale. It's pretty clear that Fletcher and Gordon are aware that Lehtera, Mac, Folin and Hagg are the bottom of the barrel here, given recent scratches and ice time.
