Make my day.
Hansen was a bit of a sacrificial lamb here so I'm not really upset about the ruling. With Karlsson and now Hossa, I don't think Shanahan wants players getting ideas about injuring players and making it look like an accident, so giving Hansen the game off at least sends a message that nothing of the sort will be tolerated, even if Hansen didn't mean to injure. BEcause someone else might come along and mean it.

That's bullsh*t. Fowler? Landeskog? Kaleta? Cooke? there are dozens of examples this year where they just overlook it and dozens more they will overlook. This will be a one off, just like every other one off.

I'm still pissed at the wording of Shanahan, it's as if he hasn't even looked at the video. Hansen didn't full extend his arm until after he hit because Hossa ****ing skated into while he was doing it ffs.

What a sh*tty joke of a league.

A complete accident of a play, that barely makes contact with Hossa, but because he's had so many head injuries he's become a glass man - this accidental play gets a suspension.

And I don't even mind this decision - it is ok by me - *IF* they keep some CONSISTENCY! For ****s sake.

This was such a minor play compared to tons we've ALREADY seen this year that haven't even got a fine. The Fraser article on TSN even says so:

"Stranger things have happened but I would be surprised if Hansen receives a suspension on this play. I have seen far worse hits that have gone unpunished this season."

But THIS gets a suspension. What this says to everyone is this: "This accidental play is in the same ballpark as an intentional, malicious, vicious, premeditaded, psychopathic elbow to the skull that knocks someone out. They are basically the same play, give or take a couple games of suspension."

If this play gets 1 game, and Torres previous hit gets 25 games (or 20 or whatever they reduced it to), then Duncan Keith's Elbow is a 30+ game suspension. It is not in the same league as Hansen's accidental contact. In fact it is not in the same league as Torres' hit - Keith's Elbow is much more vicous and much more dirty then Torres hit, and Keith's Elbow wasn't even close to a hockey play, while Torres' hit was.

I don't get it. The only thing the canucks are ''dirty'' for is diving, embellishing, and I don't know what else. There isn't even a cheap shot rat in the system. Burrows and Lapierre don't even do stuff that harm others, they do things that tamper their reputation.

I'm honestly confused by this as well. Whenever there is a list of the dirtiest players in the nhl Burrows and Lapierre are almost always picked. When is the last time either of them hurt anyone? Neither of them (as far as I am aware) have ever been suspended. It just doesn't make any sense.

About the Hansen suspension-:laugh::laugh:Just so freaking stupid.

What I don't understand is why Aquilini seems to have so little say in the league. Aren't the Canucks one of the wealthiest teams in the league? You'd expect something to go his way eventually, but it never seems to.

Good point; the ratio of penalties for-against them in the 2011 playoffs was ridiculous.

Shanahan's first take on his video statement;

"The puck goes into the air. The first and fatal shot - frame 313 - takes Hossa in the head from the back. This is the key shot. Watch it again. Hossa going forward and to his left. Totally inconsistent with incidential contact. Again - front...and to the left. Front...and to the left...front...and to the left."

Maybe the suspension is to deter retribution in the next meeting between the two teams? I know the canucks can keep their cool (I don't think they did anything to keith). The hawks on the other hand, seem like they can become unhinged pretty quick.
I'm fine with the suspension if the ruling is because he was reckless, anything else is just rectum derived.

There must have been another player reaching for the puck! of course! on the icy knoll!

I wouldn't be surprised if they sent one of their talentless goons after the Sedins/Kesler with intent to injure.
It's something the Blackhawks would do.

I don't think Shanahan's explanation was a joke. Looking at the video you can pretty clearly see Hansen bump Hossa with a motion that wasn't him going for the puck.

My guess is Hansen was trying to push Hossa in the shoulder to get position on him but got him in the head accidentally. I still think it was a nothing play that wouldn't have turned into anything if Hossa's head wasn't made of glass, but like in real life, it's generally the results of negligence that determine whether someone is punished or not.

Eh, it's one game. Don't totally agree with the suspension but I get it. Hopefully Kassian gets the wakeup call and seizes the opportunity in the top nine as he know he's looking at fourth line minutes otherwise.

That's odd, I thought the minimum suspension for hitting a Blackhawk was 20 games?

On the positive side, if Hansen really can do what Shannahan says he did in the space of about a second, we have a future 30 goal scorer on our hands. His decision making is so fast no goalie will stand a chance!

Make my day.
Looking back through Shannahan's abysmal record of one game suspension and no game suspensions, it's pretty Hansen's incident doesn't belong there.
