Leafs Home Board
The latest Hockey News draft rankings has Hanifin as BPA #3 and Marner ranked #8 overall.

Leafs are drafting #4 so BPA at that position is Strome according to NHL amateur scouts.

NHL Central Scouting has Hanifin ranked 3rd in North America. So assuming Arizona drafts Best Player Available, they would go for Hanifin no? That would leave us with the 4th ranked skater Dylan Strome. I'd be pretty happy with this result.

BTW Crouse is ranked 5th by NHL Central Scouting. Marner 6th. Why is Crouse not in the conversation? BPA right? If the Leafs want Marner so bad they could move down in the draft maybe and get an extra pick, prospect or nhl-ready player perhaps?

Tough call knowing our need for 1c.

Hard to argue what PK is doing for Montreal and Karlson for Ottawa... these guys are game changers that single handedly are adding 15-20 points a year for their teams.

Think about the importance of a true Number 1 D. He will be on the ice almost half the time for our team for the next 10 years.

High end teams have proven to have at least or more top end minute eating studs. Off the top of my head the last one available on the UFA market was Chara. Hard to find.

If Hunter picks Hanifan over his boy Marner, you know that the Leafs have landed a GD stud defenseman.

This.

If anything, Hunter will indeed err on the side of the prospect of whom he knows more intimately (Marner) if they can't decide on either or it's too close to call.

If they choose Hanifin, it's because they think he's a substantial step ahead.

Arizona will pick Marner or Hannifin. Whoever is left for us between the two, I would take.

I really want that big number one center locked up this year, I'd feel more secure in the rebuild knowing that's in place, and we can pick whatever in the next few years.

Great chat on Leafs TV with Dylan Strome. If he's still available at 4, The Leafs would be a great fit.

Sure, except Strome isnt a guaranteed #1 C. Huberdeau, Brassard, Couturier, R. Strome, etc were all 6'0+ ~96-105+ point centres in their respective draft years. I see Dylan as a similar calibre prospect to these guys. He may have put up more pts, but he was on a great team, and his PPG when McDavid wasnt in the lineup was the equivalent if theirs essentially. Lots of upside, but not an almost sure thing like a Stamkos/Tavares C prospect.

Marner is the most skilled fprward after Mcdavid..... would still be happy with Hanifin as our d would be a younger version of Nas.... then would hope we getsome more top picks with trades. Worried ARI picks Marner

Toss up, IMO. I think Arizona will pick one of the two and I hope the Leafs pick the other. If you put a gun to my head, I'd pick Marner, but living in London and having seen Marner play live more than any other prospect in this draft, I'm biased.

I'd also be curious to see the reaction if the Leafs pick Provorov, who IMO is extremely close to Hanifin.
