If AEG/Leiweke decides to replace Lombardi, whenever that may be, who do you guys think would be a good GM candidate to take over the management duties? Some names to consider:

Ron Hextall, Craig Patrick, Dave Nonis, Jim Nill, Tim Burke, Michael Futa, Rick Dudley

I agree with the line of thinking that believes DL will be fired if DS fails.

My friend told me that all over Los Angeles are billboards and busses covered with "The time is now" and such.

Well DL, the time is now.

I'm more than fine with this approach, too. I've been a big backer of DL, but this has to be fixed. We're out of excuses and second chances. We aren't an up and comer anymore, we're just some team trying to make it in the league, same as everybody else. I have high hopes for the Sutter hiring, but if he's a dud (this season, not 2 or 3 down the road) then yeah, byebye Dean Lombardi.

agreed. If DL doesn't succeed with Sutter, he will look like an incredible drafting GM who can never get his team to go deep into the playoffs. This is what happened with him and the Sharks, he was supposed to go deep, then the team floundered.

i duno... we'll see.

I'm going to give Sutter some time to get through to the team first. He does have a talented team to motivate.

And while he may not play an offensive first system, I am excited about the Kings having a coach with a killer instinct, who is willing to bench players either for not playing well enough or not playing like they want to win.

Hexy or Futa have the inside track.

DL will regardless of his errors be respected by me for the ridiculous amount of depth that he has accumulated at the draft and via youth fa signings. We may not be overloaded with top6 talent (though we have more than most people around here think) but we are stacked on D in net and with 3/4 line talent. I am hoping that DS does well this season and then decides to make guys like Lewis permanent and give a few of our other kids (Nolan, Kozun etc) a chance on our bottom lines.

I have been keeping a close eye on Toffoli again and he is ready for pro hockey. A year going back and forth between the AHL and the NHL and he will be set to take his place as one of the better young snipers in the game.

Vey looks really good but is further away than I had thought. He is doing well in the AHL but has yet to consistently play with the type of offencive skills that he is known to possess. Time is the answer. He shows it every now and then. 2/3 line center at this point but still too early to tell. I like him.

I am set to go see Max K overseas in Feb and have heard that he is really playing excellent hockey even though he is getting next to no ice time. This is largely due to politics than anything else. He is having to fight for every second and produce with what he is given. He is playing against men in a league that is little more than a gladiators pit on some night and a pee wee hockey league on others. All of this will help him become a solid hard nosed grinding hitting battling 2nd liner in another year. Sooner if things work out alright.

We need a GM that would actually take a risk on going with Plan A. The problem with DL (he said it himself) He always goes for plans B and C because others are too busy going for plan A. That's not going to get us deep. If someone like Gary Roberts is available in his prime, you go after him, not Scott ****ing Thornton.

How can you say that when he went with his Plan A in Richards?

I hope so too, so the Hunter/Moreau, etc, rotation was TM's call? Because if the kids are talented, it can produce for you. At one pojht the Flyers had 7 rookies skating , 3 on D and 4 forwards. They score, they PK, the get minutes...
I didn't understand some of TM's thinking when it came to lines and players. Nolan didn't look bad in Preseason and why not give him and Kozun, or the others a shot?
IS DS the type to go that route?

As for trading, I thihk DL will pull tghe trigger for a top 6 winger. And if that means some of the current top 6 wingesr get moved so be it.

There was a rumor that Kings were talking to the Jets in late Nove, mber , as Evander Kane (rumors) was unyhappy.
He'd be a nice fit

I agree with the line of thinking that believes DL will be fired if DS fails.

my take, opinion and gut feeling on how this shakes out.

-DL will bring in DS
-DS will have an immediate impact. piss off some guys, some will improve. when it comes to squeezing out everything from each player he is tremendous.
-when it comes to accountability i think DS will deliver on this much better than TMu ever did. not just young guys or newer players. im talking from 23, 11, 10 to 19, 22, 48. top to bottom he will deliver much better
-LA will get back on track this year. next year, or the following all of this will de-rail

-i wouldn't be surprised if DL had to sell TL on DS. spreadsheets, flip charts and all
-TL gave him the approval to do so but at the same time this is it for DL. he was given enough rope by TL to hang himself with this decision
-there will be multiple very bad roster moves made to give DS what he needs. LA will give away some good young talent or picks for some scrub vets
-there will one or two good roster moves made. along the lines of Stoll/Greene that will help the team
-DL will move some asset like either VV or AMart to free up roster spots, that will net him a good 3/4 liner
-DL knowing that HE has (not the team) moved into a win at all costs mode, will continue to gamble with picks, prospects and players
-in the end LA will essentially end up where they began when DL was hired.

-i pray the DS contract is for this year and next. anything longer and this train will go off the tracks and they will be eating DS' contract, then again uncle Phil has a lot of money and it ain't mine.
-this 'experiment' shouldn't be allowed to go any further than next season

so immediate positive impact, long term car wreck

After reading the following piece from Darren Dreger, I could care less of the opinion of fans who highly oppose the hiring of Darryl Sutter.

Many have mentioned already, but I just want emphasize one thing. Those who oppose DS are mostly saying that Kings need something different when hiring a new coach, and DS cares defense just as much as TM does. However in this moment it's not about Offense vs. Defense. Sutter WILL be opposite of Murray when it comes to coaching style, he is emotionally different. So both are correct, those who say that Kings need something different and those who support Sutter. Sutter is a change, it's not "more of the same" as few have said.

I'd say Futa, for some reason Hextall I just see as a clone of DL which I think if a GM change is made you need to move in another direction and that Futa would be a solid choice. Absolutely NOT to Dudley! The others Ziggy brought up I'd be indifferent to.

How can you say that when he went with his Plan A in Richards?

I'm talking about free agency. I can't say whether that trade "fell onto his lap" or that he actually had intense conversations before Holmgren made it known that Richards was available....Lombardi did have the "best prospect" at that point in time.

well I am glad that was resolved fairly quickly. Now to see who will stay on with Sutter. This is the season of coach firing!

The Kings have to overpay for role players in free agency. The Plan A free agents aren't going to be Kings, Lombardi or no Lombardi. The Kings would have to go above the above and beyond numbers to make it happen, because all things being equal, things aren't equal in the NHL when it comes to free agency.

The Kings can get Scuderi, Mitchell(almost $7 million a year combined for those two defensemen), Handzus(at $4 mil a year), even a Gagne coming off of two down seasons(for a lot of money). That's the best the Kings can be expected to do.

Full confirmation now up for Hammond: http://lakingsinsider.com/2011/12/17/sutter-signed-deal-in-place/

To follow up on the previous post, Darryl Sutter’s multi-year contract has been signed, and he will be publicly introduced as the Kings’ new coach on Tuesday or Wednesday, a source close to the situation has confirmed. As noted before, immigration issues prevent Sutter from immediately joining the team, but he will take over when the team returns to Los Angeles.

Had Lombardi matched the 5 year contract for Gaborik, he would most likely be a King. It was a risk that I would have wanted to take at that time. Pretty much every free agent is going to cost more than they're worth, to say they ALL would cost EVEN MORE to come to LA is an overstatement.
