I would really like to ask that this thread title be changed until it's official. Every time I come back here and see it I think it's a done deal, only to find out it's not.

Almost certain now that the Darryl Sutter Era for the Kings won't start til next Tuesday. Will players give effort under lameduck coach?

Is it me or is nothing ever simple with this franchise? :help:

No worries. There is still plenty of season to sneak into the playoffs. This team screams 'late season surge' to me. This is the team with talent that can't find a way to make it work, but when it does click, watch out!

Well if Darryl can't start until Tuesday, then what was the point of firing TM at the start of the road trip? Let's take a look and see the rest of the road trip.....

Columbus - A team we should beat as they are in a worse situation then we are, of course this is the Kings we are talking about.

Detroit - If you can't get up for a game at Joe Louis Arena, then what is the use in playing at all.

Toronto - Who knows what you will get with this team.

Hopefully they can wake up, knowing that Darryl will be here after Monday's game. Wouldn't want him to be mad at you at the start for poor play. I am sure even though he won't be at the games, he will be watching.

We tend to overlook things like the complications of hiring a Canadian citizen and getting all the visas and work permits in order. Not to mention Sutter's family life is now in a complete uproar in the middle of the holidays....

Meh, either the team will turn it around or they won't. Whether or not he's coach in time to deal with three games on a road trip isn't relevant. And work visas are likely the issue.

As a Flames fan, I really do think you guys are going to look back on this thread in May and thank your lucky stars that Lombardi went out and grabbed Sutter. Just based on what I've read about your Kings this year it seems like laziness and no-buy in have been real issues (along with the offensive woes);... I'd expect those former two to change in a hurry. As many of the Flames fans mentioned, Sutter was constantly holding Iginla and Regehr accountable (which calling them out) during his tenure here and they took huge strides when he was behind the bench. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he convinced your core players to do the same.

As an aside, Mike Richards screams Darryl Sutter player to me. In fact, Sutter made it known (after the draft was completed) that he was going to take Richards during the 2003 draft if Phaneuf wasn't available at 9. I think Richards ended up going 24th or something like that.... shows you what he thought of the guy at the time.

Everybody knew that Terry Murray was a dead man walking. This would have been an even more miserable trip if the whole time, everyone knew that the guillotine blade was dangling.

I'm fine with Stevens as the interim, running the show on a road trip where all you have time to do is hop another plane, go to another hotel, sleep, eat, practice and play. Let the new coach come in once they get home.

...

TM had to be gone before DL could have official talks with DS, so Dean wouldn't know if or when he would be available.

And that's what's going to be good about Sutter. He holds EVERYONE accountable. It doesn't matter if you're a star or an AHL call up. You don't play to the best of your ability, you don't play...period. Unlike Murray, who just singled out the 3rd & 4th liners, and the young players like Bernier, Martinez, Loktionov, etc., and gave the top players of this team a free pass time & time again.

I am Little Bunny Foo Foo and I approve if this message.

Likely he wouldn't have, but that leaked info Helene got a hold of forced the issue early. It's obvious the plan wasn't to fire TM, why put him on a plane all the way to Boston, only to fire him so he can fly all the way back and collect his things?

Not so. You can speak to another teams personal as long as you have that teams permission, you don't need a vacancy in order to talk to him. You need a vacancy in order to hire him. Plenty of teams talk to candidates from other teams before they fire the current coach. Look at Carolina and Muller, he was hired as soon as Maurice was canned, no day or two to speak to Muller. The contract and everything was worked out before Maurice was even let go.

Stevens is the same coach perpetuating the same system with the same demeanor as Murray. Doesn't matter which one is behind the bench. Also, the firing was leaked. Dean wanted to handle it in person as soon as possible once word got out. He, at least, owed Murray that.

Good, let's hope Sutter makes Richards captain.

I remember that selection all too well. Sutter looked like one happy man standing on that stage that day after Phaneuf's name was announced.
