You have got to be kidding me! If Sutter is indeed the next coach then I'm all for getting rid of Lombardi. I've been a supportive of him but this clown Sutter has done jack!

He did take an underdog Flames team to the Cup finals, but then, Craig Mactavish did the same thing with the Oilers as well as Doug MacLean with the Panthers. So I dunno.

I really dislike this move tbh. It might work for a while, but I dont think this will work out long term. Its the same old story. Old boys club. These hockey guys tend to stick together and are very loyal.

Would have liked to see the Kings go in a different direction. Murray had to go though, so things should be marginally better at least.

Worst case scenario is Kings hire Sutter, he enjoys some success, Lombardi gets fired, and Sutter takes over as Gm. Doughty is then traded to Montreal for Hall Gill, Andrei Kostitsyn and Scott Gomez.

Just because the kings sought permission to talk with him and he said he would, doesn't mean that he is automatically the one they are going to hire, if they are looking at options they had to get permission to talk to him first before even really considering him an option. He may very well the the one they end up deciding on, but if he was the one guaranteed I'm sure they would have announced it.

I'm wondering why this hasn't been announced yet...

Snag in the negotiations?

Like Hammond said, Darryl helps run the family farm in Red Deer, so probably getting all that taken care of first before any announcements are made. Plus the fact that Sutter and the Flames have to come to a financial agreement before he can officially be named the Kings coach. I'm sure we'll see an announcement tomorrow, Thursday at the latest. If Hammond is reporting "More on Sutter's potential hiring", you can pretty much bet that the Kings and Sutter have agreed on there end, and have been working on the other end (Flames & farm).
Lombardi said he knew Sunday that he was going to have to fire Murray, so I'm betting that Sutter was contacted Sunday as well, at the latest Monday.

Considering Helene Elliott said it was done and only a matter of paperwork, it seemed like it was all but wrapped up...

Dean wants Sutter. Sutter is the short list Dean was talking about.

I'd wait till tomorrow before I get suspicious, but she made it clear that it was done and they are just doing formalities now. Any delays is on Sutter's side. We already know for a fact that Dean asked Sutter as his first choice and that Dean wants this done as soon as possible, so it all rests on Sutter. If he said yes and signed, then we will have a press conference tomorrow or else he needs time to square things away, especially given that he is still under Calgary payroll. Otherwise, he watched the game tonight and called back Dean to cancel his hiring

Brent Sutter says he would not be surprised at all if DSutter goes to Kings. Adds coaching is something Darryl always wants to do.

I'm hearing plan is for LA Kings to announce tomorrow Darryl Sutter as new coach. and as @jrimercbj says he'll be coaching thursday in CBJ.

I'm starting to agree with the hiring of Sutter. I don't think we're in a position to hire a young coach and implement a new system.

LOL. Or he was rubbing his hands together, chuckling and saying, "Oh, this is going to be fun whipping these prima donnas into shape."

Give Sutter a chance. I'm so excited to see him back behind the bench. He is a smart individual and phenomenal coach. I can't wait until we play the L.A. Kings now and I'll definitely be tuning in to the team a lot more now.

Media will hate his guts but as a fan, I've always admired his nonchalant, almost arrogant attitude.

See. EVERY Flames player of fan I've heard talk about Sutter seems to love him as a coach. But most Kings fans have their pack mentality and as soon as they hear one person say something bad about a certain player or coach, everyone jumps on board. I can't wait until we finish first in our division this year and you all eat crow.

Y'all should goto fan960 and listen to the boomer interview with Elliot Friedman this morning. Rhett Warrener was on. He has played for Both Terry Murray and Sutter. He said that Sutter was better. Much more fire. He knew how to get the best out of his players. They all loved him. He also mentioned how he benched Iginla many times and called him out in the media alot but Iginla loved him. That says alot.

Here's an entire thread of flames fans praising the move: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=112351.

Seriously, this whole Darryl Sutter madness thing really caught on because of one or two bad trades (made or the span of 3 days) made by an overburdened GM who just lost sight of things.

Even as a GM, I thought he was excellent. Made a lot of really good signing and trades (Huselius, Tanguay, Langkow, Bertuzzi, Bourque, Glencross, Giordano).

Coach, GM, whatever the position is, Darryl Sutter can be counted on to succeed. I'm stoked to see him back.
