Fully agree with this and he ahs the talent to shake off the rust of missing training camp but let's see if he does it.

We should all sit back and look how he does in his next 6 and then dozen games if the rust isn't off by then then it will be time to reconsider.

Over 82 games (which he has yet played) Petey has averaged 30+ goal and close to point per game. While it would be disappointing for Peter to have a subpar season I wouldn’t necessarily worry if he does.

There is no reason why he can’t produce like he did in the past. The only question is whether he takes another step like Mackinnon did.

Confidence is a helluva drug.

Everything is mental with EP right now. He wants to show he's worth his contract, and probably his asking price. Things aren't going well, and it's weighing on him.

Getting some favorable match ups at home should help. Just needs a bounce to get him some happy thoughts. Then needs to stop thinking about what to do next, get his feet going, and just play.

Not worried yet. Don't need to see peak Petey by the end of this home stand, but do need to start seeing some improvement.

Same thing happened at the start of last season, seems like it takes him 10-12 games to really get going. Doesn't help that he didn't get a full training camp in and was behind the 8-ball from contract negotiations this time around.

He'll be fine.

I think the expectations have always been a bit unrealistically high for Petey...some people had been saying he's better than, or at least in the same stratosphere as Connor McDavid...clearly thats insanity. Pettersson is probably going to top out as a 80-90 point guy who plays a strong 2-way game...I don't think he has "regressed" I think he's a guy who is coming off an injury riddled season, is now the focus of the opponent's defenses so defenders don't give him space and they manhandle him whenever possible...he's going to have to make adjustments to his game, become less predictable and work through his slump...hard work will pay off and I don't think Petey is afraid of putting in the work. He'll rebound.

Who are these "people“?

I have not seen anyone on this board who said that he's better than McDavid. This is something not even a troll would say because it is so outrageous. In fact, I have also not seen people who said he is in the same tier as McDavid either.

At Pettersson, he was being compared to Mathews.

Well...this was just tweeted today. However, since you've apparently read all posts pertaining to Pettersson, I won't dismiss your board omniscience on this topic.

Petey didn't become the player he is by being a wallflower. He's also the team's star player. He knows he's not playing at his best. Definitely don't want him to lose confidence.
Well right now is average so that’s not saying much.

He can say whatever he wants, he has not been very good for awhile now.

Started slow last year as well and had no training camp this year. But I will admit, he's never looked quite this bad. Hopefully he gets out of it soon. And even as bad as he's playing, he's better than anyone who we'd put in for him so no he's not getting benched.

He simply does not look to be nearly as creative on the ice as before, I think it's coaching more than anything, He looks confused on the ice constantly, second guessing

It's not just decision making, has trouble handling the puck as well.

Hughes, on the other hand, looks dialed in.

The problem I see with Petey is that he's trying to do too much...and too much that isn't in his wheelhouse. He's trying to rush the puck and he's getting caught because he's not very fast, he's trying to stickhandle through 2-3 players instead of drawing in defenders and making a smart pass. It also doesn't help that he's working with other players who just aren't clicking offensively either. The passes are not crisp and accurate for quick returns, or one-timers...everything is just a little bit off right now and it makes for some ugly hockey. I'm not sure what the best thing for Petey is right now, some good coaching would help...he needs to be put on a line where he can just stay in his lane and work with some linemates who can carry the puck and create some space for him to make simple "meat and potatoes" plays...keep him on the wing...put him with Bo and Garland.

I think at one point Green told Pettersson to simplify his game, because like said above, he is no where near as creative as he used to be. There would be a nifty deke almost a few times a game in Petey's rookie season, and he had the "wow" factor. Today Pettersson has problems controlling the puck, he seems to be bobbling simple plays and passes. I am not sure if it's because his wrist is still bothering him, or if it's a confidence thing, or simply because he was pretty much injured all of last season and is just rusty. All's I know is that this Pettersson is way too passive, he is getting beat in every situation, and I would honestly consider scratching him one game, just to try and light a fire under his ass. It's still very early into the season but his overall play in all areas, is really starting to worry me. Hopefully Pettersson finds his game again, gains confidence and proves his doubters wrong.

Oh ya and Fire Green...

Hot take: I think EP has regressed and one big reason spells Quinn Hughes. When theyr'e on the PP, QH takes stupid shots from the point, can't pass in the wheel house, passes to the wrong player when entering the zone, is way to sloppy and takes too much of the playmaker role EP had before QH entered. I would prefer either one of the on PP1 or PP2, but not on the same unit.

I dunno, I saw flickers of hope in the past 2 games. Definitely not where he needs to be, but better. One thing that jumps out, apart from the slow reads, is that he's bobbling the puck a lot. Is that rust, a lingering injury, or what? I have no proof of this, but I've suspected for a while that he has a lower back issue. You can see it in his stride and when he needs to twist his core. Everything looks stiff.

I remember when a few of us were concerned about how much time he was spending on social media and where his attention was.

Last night they spoke about how EP40 talked about how he spent to much time on social media and his image rather than hockey. The kid needs mentorship right now and I don't think we have enough on the ice, but we will see.

His lacrosse style cradling on the PP is a a bit awkward. Allows the goalie time to get square up and wait for his shot. Year ago he was one timing them or was touching it and shooting it in the same movement.
