Some hilariously bad takes in this thread. Very revealing in a "old man yells at cloud" sort of way.

First couple games he looked fine and created some really good chances. Last 3 games have been historically bad for him. To me it is meaningless at this point.

There is no way to know if hes done as a superstar or if this is just because he hasnt played in forever and needs some time. I think the latter is far more likely than the former, but the only way anyone can know is to wait and see. Opining about what might be the case isnt worth the effort. Assuming any situation is permanent is a mistake people often make. Both for good and bad situations. Petey is not likely to always be bad, Garland isnt going to always carry us on his back each night (though he may try).

The only relevant question is, "what do the Canucks do to help this player get back on track." And this is what worries me the most. Their track record of "fixing" players when they falter for the past 8 years has been abysmal and it's hard to have confidence that he will find his way in this system.

So what?

Sedins were the most "morally pure" and exemplary players and people you could have.

And they still got shit on even though they were "fairly" paid.

I guess to Pettersson credit at least he was smart enough to get paid for getting shit on.

Petey hasn’t gotten shit on until this season, despite stagnating in his play for 3 years (his best stretch of games were near the beginning of his rookie season). I’m not advocating that Canucks fans turn their hive mind against him, but let’s call a spade a spade.

  • “It's hard, you've got to talk to him, yet we've still got to try to win hockey games too,” said Green about keeping Pettersson from getting frustrated with his start. “He understands when he's playing well and when he's not. I've had a couple meetings with him so far. But he'll get going.”

Chad Henne just came in for Patrick Mahomes. There's no shame in getting benched or sitting out a game if a player is slumping. I hate when coaches give bias to their top players.

I remember Patrick Kane used to hate Joel Quenneville in his first year because he got less ice-time, but it was temporary until Kane became a complete player.

Maybe if this coach didn't have a history of keeping vets who play awful in the lineup you could argue this. For our best player and a player we need to be a superstar to have any chance with this core? No way...

Also lol at Patty Kane being a complete player. Probably the worst defensive player in the NHL

Maybe Petey is wondering the same thing all of us are wondering.

How does Jimbo still have a job?

Something's up with EP, and hopefully the Sedins can get to the bottom of it. This season has just been a continuation of early last season...

This is from January, but man that's disturbing. Comparisons to Naslund's body language the last couple of years in Vancouver might not be overstated.

Yes, that was following through on the early last season thought. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

If he keeps doing that then IMO we should trade him. Don’t need that type of prima dona in this team. We need guys like Garland and OEL who actually want to be part of the Canucks.

Something is up with this dude, bad body language, doesn't look engaged the way he used to be. Looks like he is getting over a bad breakup or something, or failing to.

what a bunch of hogwash blaming them wanting to make him a C. He's clearly a 1C

He's forcing things instead of protecting the puck. And he couldn't run around like he did in his rookie year or he would get injured. He had a wrist injury that will take a little time to get back to 100% and his timing with his wingers is off as well as his with the lost games. Petey will be fine the kids a top player in the league and will prove it by years end. He just needs to play and stop turning over the puck trying to make low percentage plays. If were having this discussion in the new year then we got bigger problems

Actually , based on numbers he’s really not. Can’t take face offs worth shit, he’s been a turnover machine, and at 0.5 PPG and a dash player , he’s really 2nd line … at best.

Laughable post.

Come on guys.

This is embarrassing

“If he keeps doing that”. IF. If you have EP constantly doing that then I think there’s no other option. Nothing fans hate more than a player that does not want to be here, I hope that video was just a random occurrence of him feeling down about his game.

If he comes back and dominates and is his old self again then of course we keep him, EP was a superstar his first season here.

Missing training camp wasn't good, but honestly Benning could have wrapped that negotiation up a lot quicker.

Sure, all he needed to do was ask Pettersson's agent what he was worth and give it to him.

Were there reports from time to time from which we can tell what Benning was offering so as to know if he was being unreasonable? I haven't seen any.

I'm not seeing a fitness issue. I don't think he has lost a step. I think it's all mental. I'm seeing hesitation when he has a good scoring chances with a quick release. I'm seeing decision making issues, taking low percentage shots instead of looking for a pass for a one-timer. He's trying too hard to make something happen. Nobody is going to be fooled by his slapper from the wing if he takes a full 1 second between getting the puck and releasing it. I also think he's drawing the key defensive matchups, which is further exacerbating the issue.

If you think Kane’s defence is bad, you should have seen it when he was 19/20. He’s nothing special but using his hands for defence not just offence. Plus the maturity and experience shows when he positions himself around the ice.

I will never forget Naslunds performance against the Wild in 2008 (?) when he just passively gave up a puck to Demitra and didn't bother backchecking. The infamous shootout blunder when he skated past the puck at center ice happened in the same game...

It really seemed like Naslund lost his love for hockey after 2004.

I think the missing the puck incident happened against Dallas in the 2006-07 season. January 4, 2007 maybe, IIRC.

I don't know if I'd say he'd lost his love, but he was definitely slower. Most players in the NHL have a bell curve for a career trajectory in terms of production.

Why 20 games ? 1/4 of a season is way more than necessary for the newly signed big money franchise C.

He's been healthy and "training" all summer and in Michigan apparently, so he should be playing a whole lot better, sooner the better.

Still looks like some mix of checked out, cashed in, physically weak and disinterested. Idk but pretty concerning.
