Player Discussion Had Pettersson Regressed?

These things are rarely an issue on winning teams. Surrounding a bunch of young players in a losing environment breeds this kind of stuff
Hate to say it but they miss guys like beagle and Sutter (not their brutal contracts). The team has no leadership. Horvat is not a real captain.

The problem is neither of those guys helped the team win in any meaningful way.
True. But at least the young guys were playing well and the room wasn’t in complete shambles. Of course, veterans that don’t suck would be great for a change

I disagree..He looks weaker, slower, and generally all round lagging....
Ya that’s a crazy statement. Elias is arguably the weakest player in the league at the moment. I’m sure a lot of its mental but clearly focused on instagram and not training this summer

He's not skating. There was a play in one of the Ducks Games where he was forechecking and Getzlaf had the puck. Instead of skating and catching that old f*** he instead started reaching with his stick and Getzlaf blew by him

He looks like Bambi on ice out there.

If EP isn't gonna be the player we need, then this teams core age is really based off Bo and Miller..

Honestly I wouldnt trade him this year but would consider it next year if the right deal comes along. Especially if we pick high this year and draft a C to replace him moving forward. Because if he keeps this up the contract negotiations are going to be a pain in the ass when his bridge is done. He will likely want another bridge deal to UFA. Now obviously if he sucks we wouldnt mind if he walks, but it would tank his value.

The only question is do we want a trade like Laine for Dubois or a futures trade like the Duchene deal. 1st + prospect.

Effort on that EN goal says it all. Just giving zero f***s out there.
I’m being honest here, I’m really happy that EP and Brock have clearly gave up

Like seriously, who do we need more now? Players who have gave up already and don’t mind losing or player that only play at their best when there’s no pressure on the season anymore? (Aka Brendon Sutter)

f*** professionalism
If I hate my workplace and my boss, I would also half ass my effort

This is no ordinary workplace. Your goaltender is giving it all every single game while JT Miller puts his body on the line. Pettersson signed a 3 year deal and is making 7.5 mil and made those remarks about being a winner. There were numerous opportunities to get your point across before the season but that pitiful bullshit there is infuriating.

We all want Benning and the coaching staff fired but come on...

It’s no ordinary workplace for us common folks
But to them, the nhl is just a workplace

If not liking your boss leads you to half ass your effort then that says a lot about your character full stop.

I also don't believe the conspiracy theories in these threads that the team has quit on their GM.

I'm not sure there's an instance of players quitting on a GM in recorded history.

Now, Benning plays a part in setting a culture that is toxic and a toxic culture erodes trust, but if you think it's a conscious. decision, then you don't understand a single thing about the mentality of elite athletes.

exactly. Players quitting because they don’t like management is more of an indictment of the players character than it is on the competence of management. Athletes don’t get to that level with that mentality.

I just can’t see any player on the the team that’s intentionally dogging it. They’re doing what they can but it’s not good enough.

If this was the attitude of these players, we would never win with them anyway...You play for teammates, and your own pride (or even the massive contract you held out for)...

So the argument is that "athletes" play 100% no matter what, no matter who is managing them.

That is really what some people are going with. Somehow becoming an "athlete" makes you no longer human and you perform at peak efficiency at all times because "athlete".

Athletes are paid ridiculous amounts of money to do precisely this....

I think this will end up like the Seguin trade. Petey would become the 1C he was suppose to be while Vancouver gets a bunch of "lesser pieces" but enough in return that it makes us a better team

fun fact Loui was in the Seguin trade as the main piece.
