Pettersson has put on a lot more muscle in the last year or so...When he was drafted, he looked the farthest thing from an athlete..Literally looked like a coat hanger...He's obviously stronger now, which is why I cant wrap my head around his current performance...

Hiding under WTG's bed...
I didn't watch the game last night, but I watched the high-light. On the goal where Hughes gave the puck away and Rodrigrez(?) scored top shelf, Petterson look visibly frustrated and I believe he shook his head in disgust as he skate to the bench? Imagine somebody playing as badly as he had, and being disgusted at teammates' mistakes...
I could be completely mis-reading his body language though, and I surely hope so.

His size/weight is the same as his Calder rookie year, his skill and hockey senses don't just disappear, he certainly doesn't look significantly out of shape. His confidence is shot though, and his desire/motivation is very questionable at this point. I doubt adjusting ice time or line mates or deployment will bring him out of his funk. The team really need to find out what is bothering him and try to resolve that issue. Otherwise I don't see how Petey can get out of this.
I think all things considered (horrible team play/coaching), Hughes has made some progress over last season. Can't say the same about the other contract holdout.

Same, I thought Hughes looks like he is now around average defensively this season based on the few games I watched, which is a big improvement from last season. Had the forwards been able to score at their regular rate, Hughes would've easily have another 5-10 pts and be back in the conversation for one of the top young D.

Hughes is a good #2 but not a #1 defender. He isnt big enough, strong enough, our have good enough defensive abilities to be considered a #1 in this league. He is what he is and will be worth what hes getting paided but probably will never be in the same tier as Heiskanen, Makar, Sieder Etc.

Back to Petey thank god he isnt getting paid 8+ mill a year otherwise he would be an organization crippling anchor at this rate

He's playing like he doesn't give a f*** anymore. Maybe he wants to be a rapper or something now who knows.

Hope he keeps up the bad attitude, dngf mentality, and hope he influences the rest of the players too. The sooner this management burns down to ashes the faster we can step on the road to recovery.

You would think that he would be inspired by Brodeur creating an alternative jersey. Aquilini probably wanted to tell Petey in person that that could be him.

It would be a tiny canucks skate jersey as the logo for a regular sized canucks skate jersey.

Canucks should have taken into consideration the 'off season comments and body language' before re-signing Pettersson to a big ticket contract.

He basically said he was 'tired of playing for losing team' or words to that effect. For the most part, so far this season he's playing as if he doesn't much care what happens.

So attitude is part of it....but other teams are also exposing his weaknesses, mainly size and strength. Let's face it, Pettersson is never going to be the strongest guy out there. But what shocks you this season is how easily he's being erased from the play, particularly down low. He just doesn't seem capable of winning a physical battle for the puck.

So all teams have to do now is take away his open ice, and you've effectively eliminated him.

2022 Cup to Calgary
What is anyone supposed to say other than he sucks? He looks like a 6'2 blonde broomstick who should be playing water polo instead but brooms are buoyant so he would likely just float to the top and bob around.

Can't win a battle, skates the puck in to danger, turns it over constantly, doesn't get shots off, half his passes are tipped or intercepted, he's strictly a perimeter player and by perimeter I mean he literally can't go into the middle of the ice or else he get's stampeded, he's not a fast skater, he's not a strong skater, he's not physical, he's not emotional, he's not vocal, he's not tough or even untough, he's not a leader, he has no confidence, he has no elite players to help him, he has no leadership to help him, he has no coaching to help him, he has no GM to help him, he has an owner who tried to help him which is just weird, he missed training camp, he's overpaid, he's skinny and looks like he's gonna get seriously hurt out there.

playing 20 straight games of 17 mins and up of ice time didn't do jack so sure try him out with 12 minutes per game for awhile, there is nothing to lose at this point, like what are we going to destroy his confidence or skills even more? not possible

He was once promising but this franchises feeble culture and horrible management has neutered his skills and his mindset as they do with 95% of players who come through here. Rinse and repeat.

You guys should hire Bob Hartley. Look what he did for enabling Savard, Bouwmeester, Giordano, Brodie, Backlund, Gaudreau, Ferland, Bennett when a coach like Green (or for us, Gilbert/B.Sutter/Gulutzan/Peters/Ward) didn't have a modicum of ability to harness the raw talent of these individuals.

And yes, Gaudreau belongs on that list. Any other coach would have tried to turn him into a dump and chase 3rd line PP specialist at his size and weight.

Hartley is a coach who will go through a wall to make sure the full potential of skilled players is harnessed and challenged. Whether it's the personal off-ice work he did with Savard and Ferland, or the trust he gave to Gaudreau and Bennett... he can do that for Elias Pettersson.

That’s short sighted. I hope he strings a few good games together so we can trade him. He is 100% the main locker room problem. You can’t build around a pouty kid that has the leagues biggest ego and doesn’t give a f*** about winning. Management and coaching will be gone soon enough but they need to take our so called “core” with them

Except that I believe the REASON he even has “a big ego and dgaf attitude” is because of the management and coaching staff. So when they are gone, it might just so happene “this attitude” of his will be gone with it.

It won’t be. The reason there is a rift in the room is due to Elias gigantic ego. The vets are fed up with him and his clique. Benning is a moron but he is not the reason Elias sucks and has an ego

What consideration are you talking about they gave him 3 yrs?
And he's had a rookie season of losing and then one where he was out injured?

Imagine actually believing a 23 yr old kid is the main locker room problem, in a professional NHL team locker room.

What a time to be alive.
