Canucks ownership is at a crossroads. Do you let him spiral downwards or trade him for another potential superstar who is struggling (Laf or Kakko).

This amount of piss poor effort can only go on for so long.

You see how he (and everyone else) performs under a new GM in an organization with a new direction and a new head coach before you trade anyone.

Can't make any drastic trades without a new coaching staff. That just leads to more regret.

EP is very worrying though, he's the only player on the team that doesn't look physically capable, and no longer seems to have the skills of a top end talent. Kid can't even skate or make 10 foot passes.

What is anyone supposed to say other than he sucks? He looks like a 6'2 blonde broomstick who should be playing water polo instead but brooms are buoyant so he would likely just float to the top and bob around.

Can't win a battle, skates the puck in to danger, turns it over constantly, doesn't get shots off, half his passes are tipped or intercepted, he's strictly a perimeter player and by perimeter I mean he literally can't go into the middle of the ice or else he get's stampeded, he's not a fast skater, he's not a strong skater, he's not physical, he's not emotional, he's not vocal, he's not tough or even untough, he's not a leader, he has no confidence, he has no elite players to help him, he has no leadership to help him, he has no coaching to help him, he has no GM to help him, he has an owner who tried to help him which is just weird, he missed training camp, he's overpaid, he's skinny and looks like he's gonna get seriously hurt out there.

playing 20 straight games of 17 mins and up of ice time didn't do jack so sure try him out with 12 minutes per game for awhile, there is nothing to lose at this point, like what are we going to destroy his confidence or skills even more? not possible

He was once promising but this franchises feeble culture and horrible management has neutered his skills and his mindset as they do with 95% of players who come through here. Rinse and repeat.

I get the frustration as Petey looks legitimately terrible, but that kind of talent doesn't just dry up.

I wonder if he had Covid (I know he wasn't with the team when they all got it), or didn't train properly. There's definitely more wrong than a bad wrist.

With that said, for those who are being all reactionary (being angry makes sense, but demanding he be traded is embarrassing), I hope you'll stand by that take in a year or two when he's elite again.

Cause he's a young kid struggling through a tough time halfway across the world from where he grew up, in an unprecedentedly difficult time in the world, on a team that seems to have gone septic, that is run by a moron billionaire. The fact that he is struggling means he is human.

With that said, he's getting 7 million a year so he needs to at least look like he gives a f*** out there.

What a terrible terrible year for this team.

What he needs most is to gain about 20-30lbs.

Still going to say this isn’t a Pettersson problem or Boeser problem or Horvat problem. Despite how much money they make this is likely just a manifestation of the rot above them in the organization. Pettersson was bad last night but so was every canuck not named Demko. It goes deeper than locker room issues or sulking players (remember Miller was the one sulking last year).

No matter the industry and no matter the pay scale, employees will not perform for bad management/supervisors. Until that is fixed it will be impossible to get a proper read on a locker room and where the people doing the work actually stand.

It’s tough and indeed annoying to see but you don’t touch the locker room or even come down that hard on struggling players until you fix the big mess up top.

Can anyone recall a Franchise 1C and former Calder winner reaching their ceiling after falling off of a cliff like this in their first 3 years?

I dont think he forgot how to play, and being undersized isnt something that just happened to him. Theres something more there and I dont think the coaching staff has helped it along in any way either. It's ridiculous he still hasnt gotten there if its conditioning but it's a total mystery right now and a fairly unique situation. This isnt like Gaudreaus numbers tanking in the past few years where it was clear he just didnt care (until it's a contract year ofc), Petey seems to be trying he just seems bad at hockey...which is odd.

In the end you have a mess of an organization that has no clue how to develop a player or support them through tough times. Not every great player can find their own way. This organization hasn’t a clue how to develop players and I’m sure that extends beyond skills.

Imagine holding out for a contract and now playing like this.
I’ve got to agree. What was his workout and conditioning regimen this summer? If his agent were capable he should feel shame. How could you allow your athlete spend his big contract summer not working out and then showing up for camp looking like a 17 year old computer nerd?

people blaming the team for Pettersson’s strength and conditioning, give your heads a shake. Many players take this on themselves and seek out top notch conditioning coaches.

I didn't watch the game last night, but I watched the high-light. On the goal where Hughes gave the puck away and Rodrigrez(?) scored top shelf, Petterson look visibly frustrated and I believe he shook his head in disgust as he skate to the bench? Imagine somebody playing as badly as he had, and being disgusted at teammates' mistakes...
I could be completely mis-reading his body language though, and I surely hope so.

His size/weight is the same as his Calder rookie year, his skill and hockey senses don't just disappear, he certainly doesn't look significantly out of shape. His confidence is shot though, and his desire/motivation is very questionable at this point. I doubt adjusting ice time or line mates or deployment will bring him out of his funk. The team really need to find out what is bothering him and try to resolve that issue. Otherwise I don't see how Petey can get out of this.

He was visibly disgusted and frustrated by his own play...After that play, he was assigned to the 4th line..Clear message sent there.

That photo set is hilarious guy looks like a twig.
Thus the bambi like on ice performance, obviously hasn't done any training, looks like a 16 yr old, and thought his sick skillz would be enough.

They're not.
