Not to derail but I don’t think it can be said enough how vital the upcoming playoff is for the PBruins. A deep run would do wonders for the Bs prospects down there.

Thinking about an offer sheet for McTavish... What would it take for Anaheim to say, we'll take the picks and build around Leo Carlson? They're not going to be squeezed by other cap considerations because they have $40m in cap space.

If I'm the GM, it's not off the table. They'd save $4.3 against the cap next year. The savings get smaller as the years go along but the cap goes up as it goes along.

Ultimately, I think I would give him one more season to see if A) he improves or B) can be effective in a lesser role. If he can be a really, really good 3C, then as the cap goes up his contract will fall back in line with the rising pay scale. Plus, you can always buy him out in a year or two, and that lowers (x2) the number of years his dead money is on the books.

Dom mentioned on Sunday night that they could trade him and retain and then he may be an attractive "get" for a team like maybe Vancouver. So if the Bruins retain a quarter of his cap hit, maybe he goes back there or is attractive to another team?
EL probably would've been more of an attractive option if he didn't go for term and the big bucks. Maybe with the Bruins retaining it changes the whole thing for Vancouver.

I wouldn't shell out major coin and years to a guy that's missed as many games as Jakob Chychrun.

I'm also not sure Lohrei gets you close to a good first liner at this time. If he scored 10+ goals this season, you'd have had a shot.

They still need grit and toughness, look at Florida, make the grit and toughness fast. Turns out the Tufte's, Jone's and size they added (besides Kastelic) wasn't tough or gritty, just AHL fodder.

Sam Bennet is a perfect UFA add, skilled and tough. Lauko is a good add, hopefully he is resigned and plays on a fourth line with Kastelic next year. Add a Marner or Ehlers but make sure you are adding grit, toughness and leadership. They already have Middlestadt, who has talent to be a 1C but his determination has always been questioned, add another talented but soft top 6 player you need that grit and leadership in your bottom 6 and D. Otherwise you have the 2019 team that lost because of how soft they were.

Really interesting scenario…

Normally I would give him 7x7.75 right now without blinking. I know he could probably get a fair bit more on the open market though, probably 8.5-9. Just feel like having mobile D helps offset the lack of star power up front and helps keep the puck on the opposite side of the ice, which was missed without Lindholm this year. That said, here some concerns…

-I’m unsure if he can play his offside and we really need a stud RD behind McAvoy. If not, we have Zaddy eating 5 mil on 3rd pairing behind Chych and Lindy.
- If you use Lohrei towards trade bait, this star forward should A) be a vast improvement over the FA options this summer that don’t cost to acquire B) ideally should be a stud top center
- If you trade Lohrei for said top forward, they are going to have a big cap hit. Can we afford that on top of Chychrun? What holes does the trade package then create in the lineup/system? Lohrei will probably only cost us 3-3.75 on this upcoming, likely bridge, contract
- Lohrei (28pts this season) has tremendous offensive upside, just turned 24, and is already putting up 75% of the point Chych(41pts) is. 28 points is the total Chychrun put up 2 seasons ago in 2022/2023. Chychrun is about to turn 27, just matched his career point high from last year, and could maybe hit 50 depending how this Ovi run goes. Feels like if Lohrei matures a bit defensively, he could easily be where Chychrun is now.


What names did you have in mind if you were to move Lohrei? If Mittelstadt gels well this spring, a package of Lohrei, Zacha, Lysell, and a 2nd could get you a pretty pony and look great if you’re guaranteed to get Chychrun.

I don't want Bennett. I think a lot is going to hinge on the health of Hampus Lindholm, to be honest, I like him but am very concerned about him. Chychrun is still a young player, and I would most definitely kick the tires on him. I would also consider, Marner, something I cannot believe I am saying, RFA, Mason McTavish, is definite look see..

Sam Bennett is a perfect Boston Bruin. Unless you can get a Tkachuk you sign Bennett

Why the heck would the Bruins want him at 40 ? Sweeney got this half right here and I support him which I rarely do.He could have shipped him elsewhere and gotten more without a doubt but put him close to his family with a chance to win .And Sweeney said in his pressor also that he has to do what's in best interest for the franchise. Sam Bennet has never scored more than 49 points in a season, but has that playoff grit that we need. I’m not super crazy about him because we don’t already have him- I think he would cost more than I’d like to pay, and we’d have to cough up to get him. He’s about to be 29 in June. If he was a full UFA I’d probably have my demons choosing him over Ehlers honestly at the same cost, but I think Ehlers will have a higher AAV.

What do you guys think it takes to acquire his rights, and what is his salary once signed?
