Lol. It’s actually a blue jays thing. It’s from the jays board from years ago. There are a bunch regulars and people that were likeminded and we would oppose certain viewpoints just in general and they would call us all elitists. So BJ elitists was born with a lovey little play on words as it were. We actually wrote a blog for a little while called just that hahaha. But I do fancy myself an elitist with both meanings

He asked the question I have always wanted to ask but never did

4.799 offer to Will Cuylle and 1.5 to Alexander Holtz. Assuming they don’t match, those two will likely help us sooner than anyone we draft the next year.
And why wouldn't the Rags and VGK's sign them?
I mean, I like the players, especially Cuylle but I also have doubts that DS will sign anyone to an offer sheet.

Bennett would be the perfect add for Toronto. Hope he doesn’t go there.

And no I don’t want to see him paid here either

I wanted Bennett back before Calgary moved him.

I made plenty of smug posts after he had success in Florida.

With how this team is currently constructed, I pass on signing him.

Would have been a great fit imo when we still had Bergeron/Krejci. Even when we just had Bergeron I would be onboard.

But not now

We were also told that Taylor Hall was a locker room cancer and then he wasn't.

Interesting you mention Hall. He seemed to have loved it here. He's UFA -- he obviously isn't what he as 3 years ago, but he's at about .50 ppg this season, mostly with a terrible Chicago team and coming back from knee surgery.

Maybe he signs a 1–2-year team friendly deal if Marchand doesn't come back?

I know Marner is the most productive guy out there, but I'd be happy with Ehlers to stabilize and legitimize the 2nd line and improve the PP. Hall could be a good get to round out the top 6, provided the $$$ is right.

Hall - Zacha - Pasta
Ehlers - Middlestadt - Geekie
Khusnutdinov - Lindholm - Poitras
???? - Kastelic - ????

Really interesting scenario…

Normally I would give him 7x7.75 right now without blinking. I know he could probably get a fair bit more on the open market though, probably 8.5-9. Just feel like having mobile D helps offset the lack of star power up front and helps keep the puck on the opposite side of the ice, which was missed without Lindholm this year. That said, here some concerns…

-I’m unsure if he can play his offside and we really need a stud RD behind McAvoy. If not, we have Zaddy eating 5 mil on 3rd pairing behind Chych and Lindy.
- If you use Lohrei towards trade bait, this star forward should A) be a vast improvement over the FA options this summer that don’t cost to acquire B) ideally should be a stud top center
- If you trade Lohrei for said top forward, they are going to have a big cap hit. Can we afford that on top of Chychrun? What holes does the trade package then create in the lineup/system? Lohrei will probably only cost us 3-3.75 on this upcoming, likely bridge, contract
- Lohrei (28pts this season) has tremendous offensive upside, just turned 24, and is already putting up 75% of the point Chych(41pts) is. 28 points is the total Chychrun put up 2 seasons ago in 2022/2023. Chychrun is about to turn 27, just matched his career point high from last year, and could maybe hit 50 depending how this Ovi run goes. Feels like if Lohrei matures a bit defensively, he could easily be where Chychrun is now.

What names did you have in mind if you were to move Lohrei? If Mittelstadt gels well this spring, a package of Lohrei, Zacha, Lysell, and a 2nd could get you a pretty pony and look great if you’re guaranteed to get Chychrun.

I don't really have any names in mind, yet. I just think that relying just on free agency to get a top line forward is a fools errand given how big the prices are going to be and how few options are out there and trying to think out alternatives. Lorhei is certainly their biggest realistic chip right now, but the return would obviously need to be substantial.

Sam Bennett is a guy you add if you already have a true #1 do it all C in front of him. They need to focus on finding that true #1 C over anything imo. The draft is likely the best place to do that with their current position.

Yeah they need a center that can drive play, not another Zacha, Lindholm, Mittelstadt complementary guy, Bennett obviously complements in a different way, but the Bruins don't have a Barkov to slot in front of him or a Tkachuk to play with him. Bennett with a bunch of Geekies aint gonna be the guy in Florida.

Given his free agency track record, I hope Sweeney stands pat this summer. Make your picks (in the appropriate rounds this time) and then go on vacation. Sick and tired of signing guys we have to pay other teams to take within a few years.

Let next years team compete for the top overall pick and then see where things stand.

Honestly him or Misa are the B's best chance to find that potential #1 right away with no money or assets leaving. It's just getting that far down in the standings is gonna be tough for a team with Pasta on it.

But even they are not likely to be #1 right away. Both will have growing and transitioning to do at the next level and develop their games.

A team with Pasta, McAvoy, H.Lindholm, Swayman, Zacha, Middlestadt, Geekie, Zadorov is not going to compete for a first pick, it will compete to be like this years team, mediocre. That means you sign a couple of top 6 UFA's who can make a difference. They have money, I don't want to see it go into the JJ Cryonic fund.

Yeah I'm sure the Bruins are going to try to put together a terrible roster next year. Makes sense.

I definitely agree no one in this draft will step in and be a true #1 right away but you can't always decide when you might get a 2-7 pick and those two are the most sure fire bets, even though this draft is honestly a crap shoot with the true best player probably not going 1st or 2nd once you see the careers play out.

This.
Wanted Bennett when Flames got rid of him. Now I feel he's at the point in his career where he won't really be the same moving forward.
