He's right though. There's no layers to our defensive system, which is why if our 1st option doesn't work, the players are left scanning for options. But, that's not something you want to do in defensive zone, as forecheckers get on you too fast. Players are left dumping it out or flipping it out if they get pressured. It also leads to giveaways.
Also, both Matheson & Hutson activated on the Dach play. One needs to stay back. Coaches need to decide if in that situation if they want the weak side or strong side D to stay back. They seem to leave it up to the players, so both went. Good coaches don't allow for that. Players know who does what in situations.
