Yeah, that was just dumb. I've been mostly supportive of MSL, but he's relying on players now who just aren't getting it done. No way Dvorak should have been out there. If you want a face-off specialist put Evans on. He was having himself a game & was driving play.

I agree. But then again, Gorton and Hughes aren't giving him many options either. Very few veterans, no faceoff specialist, few defensive specialists. I'm hoping they remedy the situation eventually. I understand they want more organic growth and don't want to hamper the younger players looking for a spot. However, that approach is in conflict with being "in the mix".

Did you see him catch Barzal on the backcheck tonight?

Also he's playing hurt and was a gametime decision today.

He should he backchecking, that's good.

I don't have much sympathy if he's hurt tonight because 1. he's been charmin soft all season, and 2. if he's injured, don't play.

Losing Laine was such a kick in the bag.

Dach isn't ready to carry his own line. He needs a wingman who will carry it for him. Newhook has been good. Long term, I see him as a very good third liner.

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Hage - Demidov
Newhook - Dach - Kapanen
Heinemen - Beck - Gally

We host the undefeated Rangers on Tuesday (4-0-1).
Rangers looked good tonight. Leafs played well and still lost. Shesterkin was very good. Rangers special teams especially were impressive.

Enjoyed the Habs shootout except the result, liked the confidence that Kapanen and Heineman showed.

I understand that our Captain has had a rough start but, to say that he's not a 1st line centre is ludicrous. He was 15th in points for centres last year. Several teams had 2 centres in the top 15 (Edm, Van, Tbl) so, if Suzuki is not a first line centre, then there are 19-20 teams who don't have first line centres
Habs fans complain that a top 20 C in the league isn't a top 10 C when we have no 2nd line and our top pair wouldn't crack the top pair on most teams.

I

t may be Demidov. That would be awesome.
Demidov won't be a C.
An elite 1D is a way more pressing need. The puck rarely left our zone tonight. Having a second line center that isn't Evans will also help out a lot more.
Nah I think Hutson is still raw and Rein isn't even on the team yet (both are known for their breakout ability). I'd rather see Suzuki slotted into a 1B/2A position.

Imo Heineman has a way bigger upside than Newhook.

That's a pretty good looking lineup and, eventually Tuch will be in Gally's spot

So you think Reinbacher on the top pair is guaranteed to be fine on a cup contender yet Suzuki as the 1C is not?

I would say both. I still feel the team lacks the 1G/1D/1C trio. It could be that the answers are within the organization, but they're not at that level yet if they are.

am i the only one that's kinda happy if we pick top 5 again?
It would still be ok… this year is the last one that will be hard but it’s still it.

Next year we get Reinbacher and Demidov in the line up. Maybe not Reinbacher because of the injurie but still… Hutson and Mailloux will have one year and we should get another good forward via trade + Laine.

Too many penalties, Primeau saved their butts. Caufield on a goal a game pace. Mailloux with his first of many. Dach I don't know what to say. Try Gallagher and Heineman up with him?

I mean I'd add 1W to the mix too then. Suzuki has at least shown to be top 15 in terms of production at his position while also being excellent defensively. The rest are far less guaranteed. If Slaf is a 70+ point forward, Demidov a PPG player, Hutson a Quinn Hughes-clone, Hage 2way a 60 point center, and Fowler another Oettinger then sure I'd look into upgrading on Suzuki.

Habs were in and out of the playoffs spot until Dec last season, I think. It will not be the case this season. The team is putrid and their play in their own end is something I've never seen from any team in the NHL. It's indescribable. How this isn't on a coach is beyond me. There is no chance this team plays like that in their own end if Larry Robinson coaches the D. They hired that other guy who is coaching from upstairs, but what the F does he do nobody knows.

So right off the bat I will say that Evans got as many minutes as Suzuki this game and while I love his hustle, this should be adressed imo.

Other than not a bad game, but some questionable toi distribution among our f group.

Gallagher needs to be bumped as well as Heinneman. Those guys efforts are getting wasted.
Evans looked better than Suzuki tonight. Not gonna lie.
