Post-Game Talk: Habs good. Habs win.

Except we have video evidence that they projected he would be there, and he was, and they took him.

Tampa took Koekkoek over Vasy. They took Namestnikov over Kucherov.

I guess anything is technically luck whenever someone is picked at any spot other than 1OA. So we could just say every pick ever made outside of 1OA that worked out is luck.

In this particular instance. They made a projection and were right and were able to grab Mesar and Beck as well while still getting Hutson. They should be applauded not reprimanded.
No one is reprimanding them, but there is a difference between projecting a certain spot where Hutson should fall and then picking the likes of Mesar ahead of him.

Their internal rankings were flawed assuming Hutson’s performance holds up for the long term. Beck should not have been ranked ahead of Hutson either. So yes, they were lucky. And sometimes, better to be lucky than good.

Anyhow, they’re winning, why not enjoy that.

Good win, against top team in east. Out shot and out played them most the night. Game kept us on edge of our seats. Habs 9-2 in last 11. Sucks Detroit and Colombus on a heater also.

Anderson what can you say. Real tough guy, good penalty killer, scored the big goal. He's been injured a lot his career here, cut him down but he's back to his old self from '21 Cup run.

Slaf looked different tonight. Seen flashes of a first overall pick. He had good second half last year, he can do it again this year. Maybe even a big playoff run.

Dobes 3-0 to start his NHL career. Caufield with his 23rd of the season. Suzuki had a good game. Hoping Savard and Laine back in tonight against Dallas. Struble looked shaky and we need to get second line going.

Talk about a well oiled machine working on all cylinders. How they are playing now is how I’d hope they’d perform in a year or two but doing it now is just mind blowing. They could be tied or even be trailing in a game and you just can’t count them out.

For real this schedule has been brutal and yet the Habs are on fire. The points have been well earned and the boys must be appreciated for their work, including management, coaching etc.
The boys are having fun and have high confidence collectively (Suzuki said after the game that they feel like they can beat anyone). I'm sure management and the coaches are happy too.

The real question is what happens when the energy drop. We can already say that Gallagher need a break for example.

I thought Gallagher played really well against the Caps, and had been generally. He is beating guys 1 on one on the boards, and getting chances and skating well.
He will get a nice break for 10 days during the ultra important 4 nations tourney.

I believe so. He’s still under contract.
I feel like the insurance companies that are paying that fat salary of his might have questions if Price showed up ready to play for the playoffs and then went back to the IR afterwards.
I know it is a hypothetical but I don’t think it is functionally possible.

It's a pipe dream.

When's the last time Carey has even played? You'd have to think he wouldn't be that great anyway after all the time he's been out. It's been years.

You can't just plop a goaltender into the net expecting him to perform at a high level no matter how great said goalie was.

How are they flawed if they sat in the room and said, these are the players we are targeting and really want.

We project Mesar won't be available in round 2. We project Beck won't make it into the late 2nd round and we think Hutson will be there at the end of round 2.

Then they went out and executed on that vision and got all 3 players.

I just think it's a really silly argument to say they were somehow negligent by taking Hutson where they did. They projected and got him. They also got two other prospects they really liked in the process. I would say that deserves to be applauded rather than talked about like some derelict action that speaks to some level of incompetence. It actually speaks to competence and really strong intelligence gathering.

Trade Gallagher to SKA for Demidov

Hey man, Gally was working his butt of this game.

Pls stay there

Stay there. Forever.

Last time I remember experiencing this type of unexpected great run was the 1994 Expos -- for those who followed it then, they just kept winning and winning and it didn't matter who they faced.

*sigh*

Please don't remind me of my beloved 'spos.

when in doubt. self love.

Gotcha chief. Breaking out the lotion.

whenever the league starts up again, the magic is simply gone and the HuGo Habs return to mediocrity. the life of a Habs fan: we are here to suffer :sarcasm:

I said don't remind me of Nos Amours.

This is true. I was sort of following the hypothetical through in my head and couldn’t suspend my disbelief past the insurance companies’ mindfulness of the bottom line. That is where my imagination stalled. Lol

Not just waking up, it was getting Laine and Carrier (especially) and the lineup adjustments MSL could then make
I wonder if getting that coach's coach helped any. What was his name? Grosso. It was shortly after he came on board that they started to click. Well, shortly after being given some time to implement his thoughts.

Keep in mind that Hutson was 5’7 at the draft. I think the Canadiens correctly calculated that he’d still be there. I din think their assessment was flawled. Nobody knew that he’d be growing another few inches. If they did he’d have been drafted higher.

We can enjoy and discuss at the same time. I think it’s an interesting topic. It’s come up in the past with other players too. Lidstrom for example was drafted later in. The Flyers actually drafted one of his teammates ahead of him I believe.

Guhle's been an absolute stud lately

As for Hutson one of the thing that impresse me most is his motor, he's like a hummingbird
What you’re seeing now is players being put in the right chair. Ghule has been playing on his wrong side for two years now. Matheson is no longer ‘the guy’ so he’s playing better too. Evans is playing in the spot he should rather than being moved up. It’s much better.

Next year, Demidov will consolidate the top six and that will be even better.

Is he allowed to ever be activated for the playoffs with no effect on salary? A man can still dream.

Yes, there's no salary cap in playoffs, which is why LTIR scam works so well. Put Stone on LTIR at TD then activate him 1st day of playoffs. Bring in expensive top line player to replace Stone to end the season. Have both players for playoffs while at $10-$15 million over the cap.

We could take Price off LTIR after season, which would make him our 3rd string goalie for playoffs. If we won the Cup, he'd get his name on it & get a ring.

However, he's down to one more year on his contract. We'd have to win it this year or next - assuming we don't trade his contract this summer, which is a possibility.

Once his contract is complete, I expect him to officially retire.

Fully agree but Guhle's also much stronger and developped phisically than he was in previous years, he used to be getting pushed around quite a bit but now he brings the pain.
