Optimism has been at an all time high during this tank.

What has broken us, is seeing a third overall, ninth overall, third overall, first overall and fifth overall turn into

Josh Anderson at 5.5m for 4 more seasons
5 terribly underwhelming seasons from Jonathan Drouin
Christian Dvorak
Juraj Slafkovksy
David Reinbacher

After not seeing a 90 point or 40 goal player for nearly 30 years. It's insane how we've been starved for offensive talent. That's what's been breaking Habs fans
Yeah you were optimistic when you thought the tank would lead to Bedard. Everyone was. The fans of teams that didn't get Bedard (i.e. didn't get 1OA) were then eagerly looking for the 'next best thing'.

That next best thing for the Habs was Michkov and then the team instead chooses to go 'safe' and pick the guy who many project to be an okay but not franchise D-man. I'd probably be less than thrilled as a Habs fan, but the OTT reaction speaks to people who irrationally put all their eggs into this draft's basket even though once 1OA was gone that was always a really bad idea.

You really need to relax. The current management had nothing to Anderson, Drouin and Dvorak. Juraj Slafkovsky is 19-years-old and David Reinbacher is 18-years-old. Even if Michkov had been drafted by the Canadiens he would not score 40 goals and/or 90 points until 2026-27, and that's best case scenario.

With who was left on the board? They sure did.

And nobody thought he was going 6th lol
With who was left on the board- you mean the guy who can hopefully play in the NHL by 2026-27?

And nobody thought he was going 6th- wasn't the story Arizona was going to draft him had the Canadiens not done so?

Insane points in 26-27? ( the year habs should hopefully be a playoff team again)? Yup, that guy.

But they got a nice safe top 4 dman probably, who also probably wont be on the team till 26-27, so thats good i guess.

I just don’t get that kind of reaction…reminded me of when the Knicks fans booed Porzingus when he got drafted but this is on a higher more wtf level…

I'm not really stressed or angry tbh. Just coming to terms with the future of the Habs. Nashville 2.0

San Jose and Arizona also passed on Michkov.

Maybe those teams, along with Montreal, didn’t think Michkov would go and play with them. Or maybe his interview was crap and there were character concerns?

Reinbacher was the top defenseman in the draft and picked high for a reason. The guy has Charlie McAvoy or Alex Pietrangelo level upside. AND he’ll actually wear bleu blanc et rouge.

I haven’t seen any evidence of this but there’s always going to be a few mentally unstable nutjobs in large groups of people.
Lol then your head is in the sand. The evidence is right in front of you

I'm a Habs fan who hasn't looked at this thread yet. Here's my off the cuff 2 cents: I'm in my 50s so I've seen it all. We have been a HORRIBLY mismanaged team for decades and decades and decades, I could rant for a long time. For the relatively small percentage of our fanbase who are reasonable, sane, cool and knowledgeable -- or at least, just enthusiastic in a normal way -- I feel really bad about our lack of offensive punch and star power, year after year. I share their frustration. But a huuuuuuge portion of our fanbase is moronic -- living in an era in the distant past, jingoistic, arrogant, proudly ignorant, yadda yadda. Most aren't psychotic enough to do this horrible harassment shit, thankfully. I like some, but definitely not all, moves Gorton and Hughes have done and I think Reinbacher is gonna be a REALLY good player. Am I happy with the pick? Not really, but mostly due to bad luck and the need for a center (I've been whining about not picking Kopitar instead of Price for a generation now). There's some good stuff to be excited about with the Habs going forward.

TL;DR Many Habs fans are assholes but not to this extent.

I have a really hard time believing he personally received thousands of hate messages. They even put it in quotation marks. He allegedly received some but I feel like this title is including comments on social medias.

Not that it excuses anything but reactions are already shitty enough. No need to 'clickbait' it and make them look worse than they already

I saw something about this on Twitter yesterday. It was one source and if I recall correctly they didn't show any of the actual messages, or if they did it was only one or two.

Far be it from me not to enjoy roasting Habs fans every now and then, but I'm wondering if this was just a few knobs doing this, something all fan bases have, or if this was widespread among the fan base.

I believe this story originated with Arpon Basu of The Athletic. He wrote: "The general reaction from Canadiens fans on the David Reinbacher pick at No. 5 is honestly shocking."

"General" in that context means "most." I do not believe that most Habs fans feel this way about David Reinbacher. I find it much easier to believe that Arpon Basu is playing loose with the facts at the expense of the Canadiens' organization. All subsequent stories about this issue quote and lead back to one person: Arpon Basu.

Arpon Basu also said: "But I also heard that there is some concern among Canadiens brass about bringing Reinbacher to Montreal or Laval right away in light of the torches and pitchforks running through the fan base right now, and that exposing him to that immediately might do more harm than good."

"I also heard..."

He's not backing that up with any sources. I heard a unicorn was seen having a vegetable plate at the Keg last night. Prove me wrong.

In some of these stories random Twitter users are being quoted as saying Reinbacher has received "thousands of hate messages from Habs fans." The author and so-called sports journalist is quoting a random Bruins fan on Twitter as a source about a negative story about the Habs and expecting people to believe that's a credible source? I'm just not buying it. I think a snowball was pushed down a hill by a guy looking to sell subscriptions and it's turned into an avalanche.

I would like to see proof of these thousands of messages.

"Potential elite superstar". The Edmonton Oilers have two ACTUAL elite superstars, plus RNH pitching in over 100 points this past season. Have the Oilers won a Cup recently? How about the "Core Four" in Toronto? Did you watch the SCF, where the team with the 109 point player was dominated by a team that was led by Jack Eichel's 66 points (a number exceeded by five Panthers)?

Defense wins championships and the Canadiens picked up a potential elite RHD.

Montreal
here's a perfect example of piling on the toxicity of this entire discussion.
1) A Montreal-based fan of Pittsburgh or philly or whoever
2) dragging in the politics of language which has 0 to do with this
3) making racist, general comments about a city and its fanbase.

conflating into a bowl of diarrhea..with another poster liking it!
Hahahahaha, if you don't think French is more important than talent in Montreal then you are beyond help
