Montreal will have a game in hand on both, though.
Columbus plays Friday & Monday, @ Pittsburgh then @ NYI.
NYI play Saturday & Monday. They host Calgary then Columbus.
Montreal plays Saturday then not again til Tuesday.
Columbus has a nasty schedule to end the year too.
Tons of tough outs in their remaining games, and when Columbus does get a favorable matchup it's on the second-leg of a back-to-back, or after the team has had to travel a lot in not too long of a time period.
Never say never, but the Blue Jackets definitely won't have an easy path to the playoffs.
The Rangers have less of a tough schedule but they have accumulated losses while having games in-hand so the going will get tough for them too.
Detroit has amongst the hardest schedules to end the year, while also having lost quite a bit of ground of late, so the chances that they make the playoffs are quite low right now.
The Islanders have a pretty middling strength of schedule remaining, and are definitely a threat to challenge for a playoff spot.
Boston could squeak-in if they got a very strong run going, but realistically-speaking, their chances to qualify for the post-season are a bit low right now too.
So yeah, if the Canadiens just continue to win more games than they lose to end the year they should have a good chance of making the playoffs for the first time since the 2020-2021 Cup Final run.
