Post-Game Talk: Habs blow it against the Islanders in OT

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

That's the point. Monty was weak, bad read on the others.Yeah sure blame the rookie. Both Evans and Dvorak lost theirs faceoffs too. They should not be there.
Players don't lose faceoffs on purpose and goalies don't give up goals on purpose either. Hutson on the other hand chose to take shot, that's on him. His decision.

That doesn't mean he isn't good, there's no need to try to defend him there.

Because he made like 10 incredible saves on top of that. Only reason the Isles were in that game was because of him. Monty didn’t make a difficult save all game.
He definitely did make some difficult saves. But let's say he didn't, there's been plenty of games where Monty makes a ton of saves but allows the same goals as the ones Sorokin allowed with Slaf/Gallagher, and people still dog on him nonstop. There's just zero consistency in his criticisms.

It's disappointing but can't be mad. They've played awesome lately and they still battled back for one point. Saturday will be a big test. One of my favourite games ever by Suzuki was last year against Colorado, he went head to head against MacKinnon all night and was the better player. I think we get that version of Suzuki Saturday.

Loss is on Monty and Hutson. But I am proud of the fight in our team.
Loss is not on Hutson… he played a really good and dynamic game.

He made one mistake and took a chance. Monty did not save him and Laine was not at the good place on the ice.

Montembault is tired, he tends to do that after a lot of game. I feel like he need to sit against Colorado and come back strong next week.

I hope we get to the playoffs but I don’t think this year is the year.

Just like there’s zero consistency in his game. We were spoiled with Price.

Now that I had time to cool off over the initial reaction, they did dominate most of the night. Two bad penalties (again) and two brutal goals by Monty sink us.

Gally scoring is what Sports dreams are made of.

I'm glad they counted Laine's goal -- Sorokin made 0 effort to actually try to make the save and every effort to get the call and it didn't pay off.

OT was just bad. All 3 'chances' we had were individual efforts with little chances of going in that just gave the puck away.

Can't win em' all, glad for the point.

I feel like we were just watching the play unfold in our own end, need to be more proactive. It’s like they were letting them have free shots on Monty all night.. gotta be more aggresive. It kinda feels like the games are so important and they are thinking too much instead of playing off instincts. No one wants to be the one who makes the mistake.

Imagine saying Hutson was at fault at all on that, and being completely blind to seeing Laine pinch in for nothing.

My philosophy has never waivered it's never a loser point when you are in a playoff position.

I'm not overly disappointed in the result. I think it's a good thing to find ways to secure points when you are down like the Habs were.

I just don't want the otl slide to go further.Theres probably alot of tight games ahead for the Habs.

On to the next one. Hopefully the habs catch the avs with a bit of fatigue as they come in playing their 3rd game in 4 nights.

Mind you, the Habs won in colorado earlier on a 2nd half of a b2b in altitude (with dobes).
