Post-Game Talk: Habs blow it against the Islanders in OT

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

That goal wasn't Laine's fault, though. He was waiting for Hutson to let him have the puck so he could shoot a one timer. But Lane made a different decision. And wrong.
No it’s not his fault. Coach needs to know what he’s all about. Laine’s the big dog on the PP that’s always scoring. He can play OT under special conditions because everyone knows he’s not swift at getting back.

He looked tired last game he looked really tired this game.

Which is why Dobes should get the Colorado game. That gives Montembeault 4 days off before we go to St. Louis.

Things don't get any easier for Montreal.

They play a hot Colorado team in Montreal then are on the road @ St. Louis, @ Philadelphia @ Carolina then a home and home series with Florida. That's a tough 6 game stretch with the exception of Philadelphia.

St. Louis is fighting for a play-off spot in West, have won 4 in a row, and are 7-2-1 in last 10.

Hutson is allowed to rush up the ice. One player rushing doesn't lead to a 2 on 1 the other way.
Hutson should have held on to the puck. The confusion came when Hutson lost the puck. Sorokin caught it. Instead of following Horvat and skate back to the defensive zone he tried to fix his mistake. Laine was already half way committed to DeAngelo. The play happened fast but Laine probably expected Hutson to follow Horvat.

Well glad you acknowledged how his criticism is extremely inconsistent. We got 16 points out of the last 18 with him. He needs to be way better than tonight, and he has been.
Yeah he won the Ottawa game. You’d say he was good? The Hamonic goal is something that should go into the net? Points are a team stat. He’s been bailed out plenty of times.

I’m not saying he never plays well, but he’s just not a good #1. He’s average and that’s what average goalies do.

Isles play an ugly brand of hockey.

Off the glass and out. OZone … slide it towards the blue paint and hope for an ugly one.

Habs gifted 2 PP goals to them and a 3v3 goal.

Could've been a lot worse.

We move a point closer to Ottawa, a point further ahead of the Rangers and Wings, and we stay 3 points ahead of Columbus.

The game Saturday is massive though because the Islanders and Jackets play on Monday. There's a very good chance whoever wins that game overtakes us on Monday if we lose against Colorado.

Montreal will have a game in hand on both, though.

Columbus plays Friday & Monday, @ Pittsburgh then @ NYI.

NYI play Saturday & Monday. They host Calgary then Columbus.

Montreal plays Saturday then not again til Tuesday.

No hockey fan should want the Isles in the playoffs over the Habs. Even if you hate the Habs. This is just absolute terrible hockey to watch. It’s the Therrien/Price Habs but worse.

The Habs played 2 very tough game va Florida and direct rivals Ottawa.
Yes the islanders was important but it was a game one can expect an energy drop .
Well no , the Habs played with non stop energy , dominated , and came back down 3-1 in the third .
That in itself is an impressive feat from such a young team.

I will add I am very impressed with newhook at center and expect him to become our elite third line center .

He definitely did make some difficult saves. But let's say he didn't, there's been plenty of games where Monty makes a ton of saves but allows the same goals as the ones Sorokin allowed with Slaf/Gallagher, and people still dog on him nonstop. There's just zero consistency in his criticisms.
That's the biploar nature of HF Boards. If I was a therapist, I'd be DM'ing so many posters with my business card.

I honestly don’t get the radical hate for Sam. He was picked up on waivers, Is not only a stop gap goalie on rebuilding team but has an obvious replacement in the shadows in Fowler. He was ment to take the punches while this organization figures things out. We are in the hunt for the playoffs with him taking a #1 role. Tbh I respect his hockey but that might be just me

If Horvat had passed, Palmieri wouldn't be in an ideal shooting position, because Laine was in a position to prevent him from getting a perfect shot off.
Hutson made a mistake. That happens to young players.🙂

I think dobes against colorado was always the plan.

He beat them earlier in the year, and Monty has has played every game since Seattle.
