Post-Game Talk: Habs blow it against the Islanders in OT

Hutson plays selection for this OT:
[ ] Do something good.
[x] Do the Matheson.

There was nothing wrong with the attempt as Laine was brain dead and jumped up to create the 2 on 1 going back the other way.

Hilarious that you mentioned Matheson who was wrongly vilified last season for a similar play when Caufield was entirely to blame for unnecessarily sinking to deep and leaving two opponents behind him.

Laine is a horrendous 3 vs 3 player with his questionable IQ and lack of mobility.

Yeah, I feel bad for him getting dogpiled on here about this loss. He's not Price, but for real if we had Price with a team like we have this year (trending upward, getting better as they gel) I would assume we were going to round 3 guaranteed. We'd slap the league with a goalie that good right now.
I like Montembault but this is the weakest our goaltending has been since Patrick Roy in my opinion. It really puts into perspective just how lucky we’ve been whether it was Carey Price, Jose Theodore, Cristobal Huet, Jeff Hackett, etc.

Yeah for sure. But this is the best rebuild we've had. Only one I've ever seen since I became a fan of this team.

We got opposing players fawning over our prospects and then on top of that have other prospects to still fawn over. That's why I'm not really overly concerned with the goalie issues, although you are right we have been spoiled. But only really spoiled in that one position to the detriment of the others (strong goaltending masking other issues).

There's been little blips since then. 05-06, Theodore fell off a cliff. He was traded for aebischer who was a clunky mess. Huet filled in but it was not an immediate transition.

you are not wrong, even partially right. But CC and Slaf did good impersonations of the invisible man. On another note, holy f*** are the Isles boring to watch.
They've always played similar to us during MB era. Only difference is we grew out of it and they didn't

That Hamonic goal was awful, but again he made some key saves. Let me guess, this is a routine save that even you could do while asleep right?

He also outplayed Ullmark, is Ullmark trash too? If he is, what goalie in the league isn't?

Since the break he's been great, weak game tonight and meh game against the Sens. He's been over 0.900 6/9 times since the break and in two of the 3 times it wasn't, he still outplayed the other goalie.

He looks fatigued. Give Dobes a few more games and ride the hot hand once we get down to the wire

Monty letting in two softies and costing us the game? Colour me shocked. Can't blame him though. 51 starts is quite a lot for a back up and warts have been showing all season.

Need to find an actual starting goalie if we wanna get serious. Monty isn't it.
There’s this guy named Jacob Fowler . . .

Reading the comments and it dawned on me that this fanbase doesn't deserve neither this team, nor the playoffs.

Emotional maturity of a toddler.
Rangers board is the worst I've seen I peek em everytime they lose and they are always going ape shit

Flyers board when they drafted luchenko was hilarious too

I don't think Laine being back there necessarily changes anything. Horvat beat Monty clean as a whistle.

That's just the nature of 3v3s. You really don't want to give up possession on low percentage chances.

Monty wasn't great tonight but man some of you guys have a weird hate for this guy. Gallagher's goal was way worse than Horvat/Holmstrom yet I don't see anyone saying Sorokin shit to bed and choked the win away.
Sorokin stopped 40 shots, without him this game is like 9-3.

The first and second goals on Monty were major softies. He's been letting in a lot of these. He let in 2 goals on 9 shots for 2/3 of the game.

This was easily won if Monty is even average here.

Tough tough game to lose, the Habs dominated this one in every way other than goaltending. Sorokin also managed to pick up two assists in the game as well, tying our top point getter Patrik Laine.

The positives: We outshot them badly, but ran into a buzz saw in net, and had some pucks not bounce our way. The only two forwards that didn’t have a shot were Armia and Heineman.

Nick Suzuki continues to impress. Has 19 points in 12 games since the 4 Nations cup. Had a goal called back on a breakaway.

Brendan Gallagher. Loses his mom to brain cancer and continues to play hard and lead the way. Scored a huge breakaway goal and had a handful of shots on net and a couple of penalties.

Lane Hutson. Played 25 mins. Again. As an undersized rookie. Had guys guessing all game, made some beautiful offensive and defensive plays and folks are getting hung up on his overtime play. We have the rookie of the year here. Leading rookie scorer as a defenseman and we want to shit on that guy for trying to score!!!??? Ridiculous.

Patrik Laine. Is he a one trick pony? Yup. Does that trick help us win games? Absolutely. He continues to score timely goals and pick up points to pace this team offensively when we need it desperately.

Joshua Roy. Least amount of ice among the forwards, managed to score a goal, worked hard and wasn’t a liability. Happy to see him working hard and scoring one.

The team never quits. Down a couple of goals, they battle back to tie it up. They struggle to score but they keep working, they keep coming in waves, and everyone is buying in and playing for the legendary CH on the front.

The negatives: Montembeault. Monty had an .840 save percentage tonight, which wouldn’t be good enough to win most old timer hockey games. Has to be better. We need him to be as good or better than the other team’s goalie from now on.

He will likely get to start in st louis which is a huge game for both clubs.

In the meantime, Monty gets a few days to reset. You're right, the Habs need him to be better. The odd stinker will happen, but that's two in a row for him, and he was faltering prior to the 4 nations tournament too.

They don't need him to be dialed in every start, but he does have to avoid a string of these types of performances. I'm hoping he snaps out of it in st louis.

To be fair, in this specific thread, its only a few posters that are like that. Problem is they are extremely vocal, and they are polluting the entire thread, which makes it seem like its coming from a lot of people.

Goog points from game, team was able to rally in 3-1 situation and get a point.

Bad : team let three quite easy goals to end u in 3-1 situation.

3vs3 OT is a game of luck, sometimes you in, sometimes you lose. I don't like it at all.

I actually agree , everybody is shitting on Monty so hard and i don't get it , we got a point lol , boys could have buried another one of our 50 shots. You'd think we got smoked with some of the comments here lmao let's relax.
