I don't think so.. I mean he can be a #1 the same way Stuart Skinner is a 1.

But we need to aim to do better.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Montembeault is way better than Skinner. Maybe not a #1 but he would not fold as much as Skinner has these playoffs.

He's been steady and consistent, it's looking pretty good, just my opinion.

Of course there is a chance as he is around an age where goaltenders typically blossom as goaltending is predominantly a mental game. He is potentially another example in a long list of starting goalies that develop around 25 years of age. He was a relatively high pick for a goaltender at 77th OA so it is not as though he came out of nowhere (not that draft position is a remotely accurate indicator for G's) and was even a member of the 2015-16 Team Canada WJC team although he didn't get into a game.

He has always had the physical package to be a starter and it seems as though the mind is rounding into form as well. Monty is more likely to be good back up but the door is definitely open for him to take the next step.

I suspect that if he was on a good team he would be considered an NHL starter right now and would put up numbers like many goaltenders do on good teams. This is not to say that he should be the starting goalie on a contender.....at least not yet.

Hlavaj is still a free agent , right ? Habs could give him a shot. The guy is only 21, 6'4". Should be tried in Laval with Dobes.

I always believed he was talented enough to be a #1, he just needed to put it together. He seems to be doing that. Sometimes it takes goalies longer than others.

No one really knows but we definitely need to give him the opportunity... with a good backup he could be our guy

He just had a season where he ended as a 1B. I think next year the Habs will run back the same tandem as a platoon situation to start the year. So yes, if being a platoon starter counts.
