Did you trade Tkachuk twice in this dream and put both returns in the lineup?
I could have sworn you said something about trading Tkachuk for Marner and Bennett...and then trading Tkachuk and Norris for Lafreniere and picks...and then put Marner, Bennett, and Lafreniere in the lineup???
Why?
Sorry I'm not really sure what you are talking about, both Marner and Bennett are UFAs.
The point was that IF we could sign interesting UFAs, then trading Tkachuk has to be considered IF it means that we could move Norris salary in the process.
I understand emotional attachment to players and all but IF you move Tkachuk + Norris + Perron and end up with Marner + Lafreniere + Bennett, you'd be crazy to not do it.
That said, it's not happening, was just for the sake of the discussion.
Our xGA since Nov 1st is almost perfectly in line with our actual GA 5v5 since 1 Nov,
Our PDO is 2nd worst 5v5 in the league during that stretch, if anything the expectation should be a move towards a PDO of 1000, which would benefit the team, contrary to your suggestion, what isn't sustainable isn't our sv%, it's our low sh%.
oh didn't see that, so our defensive play is quite good and our goalies are doing well but don't actually need to stand on their heads to steal games (which confirms my narrative that our goalies were never as bad as this board made it out to be, although we have improved the personnel this season)
So the real problem, part of the PDO, is only the sh%, which is also the worst in the league at 5 on 5 since November 1. Some guys might be snakebitten, are gripping their sticks too tight but we might also lack finishing talent. Giroux, Stutzle and Batherson are primarily playmakers, but both Stu and Bath have good shots so they need to be a bit more selfish and stop with the one too many passes. Tkachuk, Pinto and Norris could maybe score a bit more. After that, we don't have enough talent. They probably expected near 20 goals from Perron though.
Don't care about his regular season stats. He's been useless in the playoffs and is soft. That's not money well spent, that's just spending money for the sake of it. He will not make this team better when we would need someone with that kind of cap hit the most. I hope this team snobs that kind of talent.
Well I disagree, there's 18 skaters on a team and if your playoffs success hinges on 1 player, there might be a problem. I don't think Marner has been the only problem for them.
All that said, one of the things outsiders have been laughing about Sens fans is how we were talking about how we would do in the playoffs but without actually making them. Finally this has a chance to stop this season but it blew up in our faces the last 3 years.
My interest in Marner (and it could be many other players) is to become a better team, that scores more while being solid defensively and that makes the playoffs with home ice advantage every season.
