you guys were spouting this same drool when Merkley came, how did that work out for you. I know because I was a Storm STH when he came and 24 years prior to that. So I know and feel your pain and disapointment in the Storm management. Hell I can't count the times one of the owners would walk right by me and never once speak. Now you have grandpa running the show it looks pretty bleak. I'm pretty happy with Ranger ST now but will always have a soft spot for Guelph. I suffered through when they wouldn't trade the likes of Bertuzzi, Dickerson, Parent, etc....to build for the future.True they have a should go for it team this year but not enough brains or balls to make the moves to make it happen. My biggest frustration when I was there.
like the kids say nowa days when they begin to speak.... ya- no..!.. follow your line right up to the moves you seem to wanna seduce us with.. and the Merk was obvious to some of us from the beginning..this mgmt ownership boat is full of cracks .. I'm just not willing to go all in with this swap shop crew.... maybe they'll sell the team and a few fine players we have now will form a foundation to build on..we'll just gather tight round the fire in the moon light... as the eyes glower from the tree line and the vultures circle..its always darkest... just before the dawn ...as they say..

You posted earlier on this page about the same trade with Bertuzzi instead of Chayka.
The funny thing is, Chayka is worth more than double what Bertuzzi ever was.
Chayka is a top 5-10 NHL draft pick.
He brings ticket sales, as well a cornerstone for the future.
Brazeau is far better than Yantsis and wouldn't cost Chayka so it's a no regardless.
A number 1 D for 3-4 Years or two players for one year because we already have better OA's that can return. I think it's pretty obvious you're dreaming as a Kitchener fan. Once Chayka's name is mentioned, the phone is hung up, it's as simple as that.

apparently;...the indicators shout that y'all.. would offer us half yer teams and yer first borns .. kinda speaks volumes ta me ....you confirm to me with every passing comment that my estimation as to his importance to Storm ... is an untoucheable fact at this time..
We have 8 2nds, 8 3rds over the next 4 years, surely we can get one top 2 and a top 4 D man without giving up Chayka (who should be untouchable) . I would rather overpay for a Defenceman than a Forward.

Nobody s giving you a top 2 D in this league with out a prospect and picks.
The top 4 might be do-able. Valatti went from Kitchener to Oshawa for two 2nds and two thirds.
However prices are higher at the deadline then they are any other time of year.
I said it a couple weeks ago and I will say it again, if you don't have the prospects teams want or are unwilling to let them go, you don't get the big fishes.
I will say though, with 16 good tradeable draft picks, GB can get creative and make some underrated moves.

having just won 5 straight and Samorukov returning.soon... they have some good prospects too..you must give to get .. why mess with a winner.
With Hanley out, we have Five players on defence.
Three are 16, one is 17 and the other is 19.
That's the problem.
You're not going to win with that defence Surge.
Even with Samorukov returning that leaves us with three reliable defencemen and three where everybody cringes when they hit the ice.
A few teams are really loading up. However I think if we add 2-3 solid D we may have a shot. Offence is as good as anyones IMO
If the rumour that SSM just acquired a '99 player is true they are likely tweaking. In terms of names available the Storm have 2 options that are most likely to play out:
Adding one or two serviceable D men for picks only and keep forwards the same... or go big and get an F/D combo from Owen Sound (Suzuki/Durzi or Suzuki/Phillips). Suzuki and Ratcliffe may enjoy a reunion thay would put the F lines as:
Ratcliffe/Suzuki/Schnarr
Gogolev/Hawel (Hillis when back)/Toropchenko
Ralph/Kirwin/Poirier
Collins/Commisso/Stevenson
That move would obviously cost Chayka and would also require a smaller move for depth D (i.e. adding 2 D and 1 F.) I agree that Chayka likely stays put unless the move is a biggie (WJC).

A trade for Suzuki / Phillips or Durzi or a trade for Frost or Hayton / Sambrook
are two of the only trades I'd be willing to give Chayka up in.
Add in someone like a Gordeev, Garreffa, Eliot in there too and this team will be a force.
Possibly Brazeau or another impactful OA would be dreaming.

Chayka, Lalonde and Wolley played about 99% of the rest of the game.
So you are right, you will not win with this defence.
And to the guy who keeps talking about this little win streak, both sarnia and owen sound are with in striking distance. One hot weekend from them and one poor weekend from guelph and 5th place or even 6th for the storm is not out of the question.
You don't have the roster to compete yet, just because you won a few games against a very bad Hamilton team, a Mississauga team that is pretty bad, a Oshawa team that was missing its number one goalie, 2 of its best forwards and defencemen does not change the fact that you still need to add.
last year;..SSM was awash with youngsters..and they were light years ahead of the rest of league... its all about class...top down up there....trading Chayka is a classless .... dumb move.. guarantees nothing in return .. but next year SOMEBODY else haz our best piece..going forward..if they do that and fizzle at the 2nd round .. . I'll burn my Storm hat ina can at the ticket office..
hey; I used to be in cringe (Crimson).. perpetua.. when merkley was on the ice.. lotsa points there... never won a thing... .. maybe 2 more checking D..for a few picks.... we hada good kid down from SSM.. for camp... thought he was better than what we kept..for instance.

Honestly, I still don't know what SSM GM is doing. We had potentially 0 returning '99s on the roster, so acquiring a '99 that will return next year doesn't really indicate what the plan is this season IMO.
Who did you have?
But what about these indications that Guelph is a front-runner for Dellandrea? Chayka is the only player on Guelph's roster that fits the bill of what Flint is looking for in return. Does nobody have any interest in this deal?
